#8 UNC Bounces Back Against Virginia Tech, Loses Dexter Strickland

(Mark Thompson/The Daily Tar Heel)

After getting absolutely trounced by Florida State on Saturday, North Carolina was looking for a redeeming performance on the road against Virginia Tech. Harrison Barnes and John Henson definitely delivered, but they also lost valuable starting guard Dexter Strickland in the process. Strickland hurt his right knee while attempting a runner and is going to get X-Rays today. He is optimistic and felt better after the game, but the prognosis on when he will return is unknown.

On the positive side of things, Harrison Barnes had a major offensive performance with 27 points with 6 rebounds. He scored 21 points in the 2nd half (compared to V-Tech's 29 overall) and led the Heels on a 19-0 run after a first half that saw them down 39-34. John Henson had a big time double-double of 16 and 16, not to mention 6 swats in NC's 82-68. The Tar Heels are now 4-1 in the ACC and 16-3 on the season. They have to have their fingers crossed for Strickland, but seem to be on the right track after the 33 point loss to FSU. Virginia Tech was led by Erick Green with 17 points and 5 assists, but fall to 0-4 in ACC play.
