The Gatorade State Boys Basketball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 fall season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Quentin Goodin

THE BASICS

School: Taylor County (Campbellsville, Ky.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Point guard
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 190 pounds

Athletic achievement: He has led the Cardinals to a 24-8 record entering the state postseason Sweet Sixteen, scheduled to begin on March 17. A returning First Team All-State selection as named by the Associated Press, Goodin averaged 23.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals through 32 games. He was shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 71.7 percent from the free-throw line entering the state tournament. A participant in the 2015 NBPA Top 100 Camp this past summer, he was also one of 38 players selected to the 2014 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team.

Academic excellence: Goodin has maintained a 3.62 GPA.

Exemplary character: A member of the National Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he has participated in blood-donation drives in addition to donating his time as both a youth basketball instructor and a motivational speaker for a middle school basketball team.

“Quentin Goodin has been one of the most dominating players in the Fifth Region the last four years and one of the best players that has come through our region in a long time,” said Tim Davis, head coach at rival Campbellsville High. “An outstanding athlete with a great work ethic, he has put himself in an elite category of great players that has played in the Fifth Region and state.”

THE FUTURE: Goodin has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball on scholarship at Xavier University this fall.
