COACH OF THE YEAR

Ed Haskins, Garfield (Seattle)
Hired in 2008 to lead Garfield back to winning championships, Haskins has delivered each of the last two years. Garfield, which won the Class 4A title a year ago, moved down a class and knocked off three-time defending champion Rainier Beach for the Class 3A title, the school’s 13th overall. A relatively young but talented team finished 27-2.

Dejounte Murray, F, Rainier Beach (Seattle), 6-5/180, Sr.
Murray wasn’t able to guide the Vikings to a fourth consecutive state title, but the future Washington Husky still had a season to remember as the state’s Mr. Basketball winner. He averaged 24.2 points, 13.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game and scored a school-record 52 points with 20 rebounds in a win over Franklin.
