Andrew Wiggins is playing for Team Canada this summer as it competes in the Mexico 2015 FIBA Americas Championship. He’s already off to a hot start, helping Canada take the Tuto Marchand Cup.
What is the Tuto Marchand Cup you ask? We are glad you asked.
It’s an international warm-up tournament for the FIBA Americas. The five teams that compete in the Cup are Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Argentina.
Here’s how Minnesota’s prized wing performed in four games:
August 23, 2015
Canada 85, Argentina 80
In Canada’s first win, Wiggins played 26 minutes to go with a team-high 18 points. He shot 6-of-13 from the field, a promising 2-of-4 from deep and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
August 24, 2015
Canada 80, Brazil 64
In this blowout win over Brazil, Wiggins wasn’t nearly as solid, but Canada didn’t need him to be. In 20 minutes, he finished with nine points, four rebounds and one steal. He struggled to score from anywhere but the free-throw line. He shot 2-of-10 from the field and 0-of-2 from the three-point. He was 5-of-5 from the free-throw line, though.

Canada 86, Dominican Republic 74
Wiggins bounced back (kind of) in this double-digit win over Dominican Republic. In 23 minutes, he finished with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and a block. He shot 5-of-9 from the field, 1-of-3 from the three-point line and 0-of-1 from the free-throw line.

Cananda 78, Puerto Rico 72
The 2015 Rookie of the Year saved his last for best, scoring a game-high 20 points in 31 minutes. He filled the stat sheet, also adding five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. He shot 8-of-18 from the field, 2-of-5 from deep and 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Oh yeah, and he did this to former Wolves guard J.J. Barea... Sorry, J.J. Chicks don't dig the layup.
Average stats over four games: 25 MPG, 14.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.25 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.75 BPG, 42 FG% (21-of-50), 35.7 3P% (5-of-14), 68.8 FT% (11-of-16)
These numbers probably aren’t worth looking too much into, but it does show that Wiggins is showing more confidence from the three-point line. In February, March and April last season, Wiggins attempted just 36 threes.
