COLUMBIA, S.C. – Harry Giles III might have left his “dream school” late last month after tearing his ACL in Oak Hill Academy’s (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) season opener, but ask Giles about his pick to win the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals in April and he won’t hesitate to say the Warriors.

“Oh, no question,” said Giles, the No. 1 player in the ESPN 100 who transferred back home to Winston Salem, N.C., and now takes online courses at Forest Trail Academy (Kernersville, N.C.). “This team had so much talent, it’s crazy!”

That was on display Saturday when the Warriors, who are ranked No. 5 in the USA Today Super 25, rolled past Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville, Fla.), 83-66, at the Chick-fil-A Classic.

Ty-Shon Alexander led the Warriors with 26 points, Devontae Shuler added 20 points.

Last month the Warriors had six players sign Division I scholarships during the NCAA’s Early Signing Period.

“We had every piece when I was healthy; it was incredible!” said Giles, who signed with Duke. “Even without me, they’re really strong. I don’t think there’s a team out there that’s just dominating to the point that I would hesitate to say we’ll win. We’re loaded at every position.”

Don’t be confused by Giles’ “we” references, he still identifies himself as an Oak Hill Warrior.

“That’s my team,” Giles said. “It’s unfortunate that my season had to end in the first game, but the coaches understood why I came home to rehab and everything like that. I’m still a part of the family there; those guys are my bros and I have all the confidence in the world that they’ll get it done.”
