Boys’ basketball: Thousand Oaks wins Ventura County Classic

Thousand Oaks kept coming back and ended up with the Ventura County Classic championship after a 70-68 win over Viewpoint.

Luke Romacker scored 20 points and Derek Ludlow 15. Matt Hauser was named tournament MVP for the Lancers, who are 8-1. Miye Oni scored 19 points for Viewpoint.

In consolation games, Oak Park defeated St. Bonaventure, 69-43. Riley Battin and Michael Alvarez had 16 points apiece. Valencia defeated Oxnard, 78-72, with Dakota Abbott scoring 23 points and Malik McCowan 20. Clarence Williams had 19 points in Sylmar’s 82-67 win over Granada Hills. Tyler Hooks added 23 points. Moorpark defeated Newbury Park, 59-48.

Ventura defeated Camarillo, 63-50. Connor Longmire had 24 points in Calabasas’ 72-58 win over Buena. Westlake defeated Canyon, 73-52, with Michael Hanshaw scoring 16 points.

Mater Dei (6-0) won the championship game of the Corona del Mar tournament with a 73-44 win over Tustin. MJ Cage had 17 points and 11 rebounds. La’vette Parker added 16 points and Rex Pflueger had 15.

In the Beverly Hills tournament, Max Hazzard scored 24 of his 26 points in the second half to lift Loyola past Long Beach Poly, 63-59. In the third-place game, Brandon Russell scored 21 points to help El Camino Real defeat Westchester, 51-47. Stone Spellman added 11 points. Jordan Terrell led Westchester with 17 points.

Jacob Davison made five three-pointers and finished with 27 points in Cantwell-Sacred Heart’s 61-44 win over Compton. Beverly Hills defeated Santa Monica, 63-53, with Chance Commanche getting 14 points and 17 rebounds. Leuzinger defeated East Bakersfield, 45-39. Burroughs defeated Birmingham, 41-32.

Brentwood won the consolation title with a 46-45 win over Palisades. Ountae Campell made two of four free throws in the final 11 seconds. He finished with 18 points to help the Eagles improve to 7-1. Joe Robinson led Palisades with 17 points.

In the University tournament, sophomore Jalen Harris scored 25 points and freshman Jules Bernard had 14 to help Windward defeat Dorsey, 76-69, in the championship game. Harris was named tournament MVP.

Harvard-Westlake defeated University, 90-71, behind Yale-bound Alex Copeland, who had 37 points. Cushan Allen had 22 points for University. North Hollywood defeated El Segundo, 58-52. St. Bernard defeated St. Monica, 61-56.

Etiwanda gave Coach Dave Kleckner his 500th career victory with a 77-37 win over Carter. Kameron Edwards scored 17 points. Rancho Cucamonga received 23 points from freshman Matt Bradley in an 88-61 win over Chino.

South Gate defeated Garden Grove Santiago, 63-58. Freshman David Mixon scored 24 points.

Orange Lutheran defeated Dominguez, 78-31. Rogers Printup had 18 points and Chris Williams 16.
