CLEARWATER — Juwan Durham scored 25 and sophomore guard Amari Goulbourne continued to impress, adding 16 points Monday in Tampa Prep's 71-49 victory at Calvary Christian.

The Warriors (1-2) hung around but an 8-0 Tampa Prep run midway through the third quarter was key for the Terrapins (2-0). It was a seven-point game at halftime and the margin was 41-34 when the run began, fueled by back-to-back steals on the press.

"We weren't very effective in the first half with it. But we like to press," Tampa Prep coach Joe Fenlon said.

While the Warriors turned it over five times in the third quarter, Tampa Prep only committed one while hitting its first five shots. At the time of the third-quarter run the Terps were hitting 67.8 per cent.

Durham added 13 rebounds, four blocks and three second-half assists. He had three dunks and showcased a wide range on his jump shot. When Calvary closed to 29-23 late in the first half he commanded the ball and pulled up for a 3-pointer, missing but putting back his own rebound.

For Calvary, sophomore Paxton Wilson had 17 points, Brian Benjamin 12 and sophomore Eddie Williams 10. Williams' 3-point play made the score 37-30 early in the third quarter.

Goulbourne scored 10 in the first quarter as Tampa Prep used an 11-0 run to lead 20-9, right after Calvary had tied it on consecutive 3s by Wilson and Zach Benjamin.

"Offensively Amari's hard to guard. When he's hitting jumpers he becomes extremely hard to guard," Fenlon said.

Tyson Ward scored nine points with Michael Fridella and E.J. Ahanotu adding six apiece for Tampa Prep. Marcus Ransom dished out six assists.

Calvary was held to eight points in the fourth quarter. Tampa Prep was 9-for-10 at the free-throw line in the second half.
