The Eagles were very young last season but should reap the benefits from that experience this season.
They are particularly strong in the backcourt because of four Canadians: sophomore SG R.J. Barrett is a preseason ALL-USA selection and was the team’s leading scorer; senior Lindell Wigginton is an Iowa State commit; sophomore PG Andrew Nembhard was a standout in the Jordan Brand Classic International game last April; and Marcus Carr, who is back to his explosive self after being hurt much of last season.
Rechon “Leaky” Black, a 6-7 junior W, is a recent North Carolina commit who transferred from Concord, N.C., where he averaged 14.1 points, 7.1 assists and 8.1 rebounds.
Underneath, Montverde lost Simi Shittu and Silvio De Souza to transfers, but gained talented 6-9 F Sandro Mamukelashvili from the Republic of Georgia.
The Eagles also return starting PF Sean Mobley, a Virginia Commonwealth commit and added Grant Shephard, a 6-9 inside player who transferred from Kelowna Secondary, in Kelowna, British Columbia.
