Southport High School junior Joey Brunk (50) reacts as he transitions up court after hitting a three-point basket during the first half of action. Southport High School hosted two semi-final games of the 2015 Marion County Boys Basketball Tournament, Friday, Jan. 16, 2015.

One possible big man option for Purdue's 2016 recruiting class came off the table today when Southport 6-10 center Joey Brunk announced he has committed to Butler.

Brunk had taken official visits to Oklahoma and Butler. As of a few days ago he was still in contact with Purdue, talking to Matt Painter while en route to Wednesday's exhibition between the Junior All-Stars and the Indiana All-Stars at Columbus North. Brunk will take part in the NBPA Top 100 camp at Virginia later this week.

With A.J. Hammons' impending graduation, the Boilermakers have targeted size to go along with 7-2 sophomore Isaac Haas and 6-9 incoming freshman Caleb Swanigan. Purdue also has 6-9 Jacquil Taylor, expected to revert to freshman eligibility via a medical hardship waiver, as young frontcourt depth.

Purdue has been pursuing several other big man targets for 2016, including Hinsdale South's Barret Benson, Atlanta (Ga.) Mt. Vernon Christian's James Banks and others.
