Update: Payton Pritchard verbally committed to Oklahoma University. Watch him discuss his commitment below:
West Linn junior point guard Payton Pritchard announced his college commitment in a ceremony at his school at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday. He verbally committed to the Oklahoma University.
Pritchard's announcement was streamed live on OregonLive.com Tuesday morning.
Pritchard is rated as the No. 46 player in the country by ESPN and is considered a top ten point guard nationally for the class of 2016.
Last week, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound floor general announced that he would be making his commitment and narrowed his list to seven schools: Gonzaga, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Villanova and Wisconsin.
"I think I found the school and I'm ready to get it done with before the season starts," he told The Oregonian.
Given West Linn's state title aspirations this season, Pritchard said he wanted to get the decision out of the way to focus of the Lions' possible three-peat.
"It'll be nice to pick the school and know where I'm going and just get ready and play basketball," he said. "Not focus on anything else – just school and basketball."
The 2014 Class 6A Player of the Year averaged 18 points and 7.5 assists last season.
