Okafor, Towns among Diaper Dandies

Men's College Basketball

One of the reasons I get so excited at the start of each season is that I really look forward to seeing the new faces across America. There is always an influx of diaper dandies, players who will have an immediate impact on their respective clubs.

This season is no different. There is a group of blue chippers coming in that has already caught my eye.

Putting together my All-Solid Gold team, it was difficult to find a great group of stars in the paint. Remember, I do not put diaper dandies on my preseason All-America, as I want them to put on that college jersey and prove themselves first.

But there are promising big men among this season's newcomers. Look out for several of them to make a major contribution right away.

Here are my All-Diaper Dandies for the 2014-15 season.

Let's start at Kentucky, where coach John Calipari has the top recruiting class coming in. Picking just one of his McDonald's All Americans for this team is a challenge. I am going to go up front with big man Karl-Anthony Towns. He will be a factor in the Wildcats' rotation.

At Duke, Coach K is thrilled to have Jahlil Okafor, the 6-foot-11 inside threat from Whitney Young High School in Chicago. He has great length and mobility and can score with his back to the basket. The Cameron Crazies are going to love him.

At Kansas, rock, chalk, Jayhawk fans will be thrilled to welcome Cliff Alexander, another scholastic star from the Windy City. He is a glass-eater who will dominate on the boards. Putting him up front with Perry Ellis will give Bill Self a reason to smile. Alexander is capable of scoring in the paint.

I love the versatility of Arizona newcomer Stanley Johnson. He played on one of the best high school teams in America last season, Mater Dei High School in California. Johnson has good ball skills and has a powerful body.

Texas fans were thrilled when 6-11 Myles Turner decided to stay in-state and join the Longhorns. He joins a team with a lot of veterans, which will help in his transition to the college game. Turner runs the floor well for a big man. Rick Barnes will enjoy his presence.

There you have it, my All-Diaper Dandy team. There will be many newcomers to keep an eye on, including Tyus Jones of Duke, Justin Jackson of North Carolina and Rashad Vaughn of UNLV. They just missed making my list. I had to pick my top five, so I went with Towns, Okafor, Alexander, Johnson and Turner. That is a pretty good group, baby!

I cannot wait to see them on the court!
