Most Overrated Player
Yes and they also won a championship with Rondo at PG and Davis and Powe getting quality minutes. They won with rookies because Garnett made the difference. You said "One of the main reasons that the Celtics were bad before he got there was because Paul Pierce was injured, and had to sit out most of the season." Thats why I brought up all the other time Boston sucked while Pierce was healthy.
Yea Josh Smith is overrated, I live in Atlanta as well and everyone thinks he is so good because he is a flashy dunker and good shotblocker. But he cant shoot, he dribbles like someone who just picked up a basketball for the 1st time in their life, and he is a bad defender on and off the ball when it comes to anything except blocks and the occasional steal. And on top of that, gets mad when Coach Woodson tells him to stop settling. Overrated
And Pierce was the only veteran on the team with that kind of leadership ability when they were a struggling franchise. I'm pretty sure Garnett is not the only leader on the team. When they won the title, it was the big 3...not the Big Ticket, and only the Big Ticket. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have been in the league long enough and have enjoyed enough individual success to be considered as serious leaders and driving forces to success as a whole.
Jameer Nelson is overrated. I'm not just saying that because of the playoffs( I know he was hurt) but he did not deserve the all star berth he got. He is a major defensive liability and is unathletic and not a true point guard, something you seriously need when your franshise player is a big man, especially an athlete like Dwight Howard. They played better the whole season when Turkoglu ran the team, not Nelson. The easts lack of elite point guards seriously favors the Magic, as Nelson is too much of a liability to guard someone like a Chris Paul a Deron Williams or even Steve Nash.
without a doubt manu. This man hasn't played a complete season in years.. and yet all everyone talks about is when hes back there unbeatable. How bout the fact he might have the greatest power forward ever a top 5 nba point guard on his team and one of the greatest coaches in nba history. I'm not saying the guy cant play but its not 2005 anymore and hes a sixth man he plays one good game every 5 and instead of people saying ginobli had a good game for a change they always say when is he going to be his oldself and if you look at the stats hes been the most inconsistent player of the last 8 years he just a solid role player who should never even be thought of as an allstar! plus he travels EVERYTIME he touches the ball aha
Id say Nate Robinson for sure and then I'd go with Dirk. I love both of these guys but let me explain.
Robinson is playing on a team that currently has no star player and their only other true scorer is David Lee. I think when someone wins a dunk contest, people think of them as either being a good player or having a lot of potential. I dont think he'll ever be an all-star.
Dirk did deserve MVP that year but he is always on the team that chokes in the playoffs. If he was as great as people say he is, he would have stepped up in those 2 series and the mavericks would have 2 titles right now.
im not goin by provin bums im goin by dudes who do all this in tha reg season but when its time 3 knuckle up in tha playoffs they always fold when it matters tha most....or in my book they r jus way 2 overratted and not as good as they think they r....or wat most ppl think they r...lol
1. hedo turkglu
2. carmelo anthony(favorite player)awww that hurts...
3. paul perice (he thinks he is tha best player in tha world b serious)
4. carlos boozer
5. Antawn Jamison
6. mo williams(just shot tha cavs ot tha playoffs mike brown still cant coach dont kno y he played lbj mins like her was a star but thats another subject....)
7. dirk nowiztki(love me he stuffs tha stat sheet but he cant get it dont when it matters tha most)
8. tracy mcgrady
dudes who havent realized there potential(bviously since they got paid they have better things 2 do besides bball)
9.marvin williams
10. rudy gay...
When it matters the most he's the go to guy, okay he may not make the big shot as much as other players but at least he gets it done efficiently, he's lead his team to 9 straight 50 win seasons. He just hasn't had the help he needs, all good PF's need a good SG. He has Terry yes, but he is undersized and his offense is negated by his defense.
KG-Allen
Smith-Johnson
Gasol-Kobe
Alridge-Roy
Duncan-Ginobili
Jamison-Butler
Randolph-Mayo
Green-Harden
How does Terry compare to any of these SG's?
If anything Terry is overrated. Again how is Dirk more overrated than T-Mac, Williams, and Gay. The guy will last extra years because all he does is shoot he'll probably play till hes like 37 because of style of play. He won't be declining anytime soon i say in about 4 years. By then Beaubois will take over and Dirk will get those wideopen looks like he did when Harris was here.
Mad props on your list. Just take Jamison off it, and I agree 100%
who u talkin to?
Some people won't like this post but, I am throwing Luol Deng into this mix. Yes I realize he was injured this year, but before that he was only averaging 14 ppg and 6 rpg, is that really worth the 10 million he is making. His numbers have declined since his 3rd year and he seems like he is heading more towards a Shane Battier career then say a Melo type career.
I think the term overrated is simply opinion but if I had to pick a player, I would go with Chris Bosh. He can play really well and is a legit 20points-10 rebounds guy. My Issue is, can he be a 1st option? I think if he opts out in 2010, he will be looked upon as a championship piece by most teams (Cleveland, Miami, New York) and a superstar by some (Dallas, New Jersey, etc)
Im going to touch on a couple players that you guys mentioned.
Chris Bosh for one, I agree that he needs to bring his team to the playoffs to be labeled "an elite" but saying he might not be a top 10 PF is a little ridicules.
Andre Iguodala CAN NOT shut down Kobe, 5 points off is season average means nothing, I will say he is one of the leagues better defenders tho. But offensively he's way too inconsistent and that's why he will soon take second option to Thaddeus Young.
Hedo Turkoglu I dont recall anyone calling him a Superstar, so im not sure how he's overrated? He's 6'10 with great court vision, ball handling and a jump shot. He's shown over and over again for the past few years that he's clutch. His only weakness is is inability to defend consistently.
Josh Smith does in fact shoot way too many three's but, I bet if he had a true playmaking point running his team, we would see a whole different player. I would love to have him on my team any day.
And to finish it off my vote for most overrated is........ drum role........... its a tie Tracy McGrady, and Dirk Nowitzki
I think it became quite apparent that Marion had been severely overrated for awhile. The guy turned out to be the epitome of a system player in Phoenix. After he left the team the guy has struggled in set offenses, and will probably never return to the all-around threat he achieved in D'Antoni's run and gun system in Phoenix.
1.)If Andre Iguodala is inconsistent on offense, what would you consider Thaddeus Young? Andre Iguodala isnt inconsistent at all. He gets you about 20 pts, 5 rebs, and 5 assts every night. He defends the other team best perimeter player and usually holds them to below average games. And he does everything else better than Thad too, never get why people think he will be better. Never one time in my ENTIRE life seen Thaddeus Young create his own shot. EVER. And I've never seen him take anyone out of their comfort zone when he plays defense. Andre Iguodala will always be better. No doubt in my mind.
2.) You dont have to be a superstar to be overrated. Hedo Turkoglu had a pretty good playoff performance with Orlando, has been one of the more productive players in the game over the last 2 years, yes. But before then, was he really a player that if you saw him leave in free agency you would lose sleep over? Im talking about his San Antonio, Sacremento days, the days when he was a mediocre player. I know I wouldnt. I think he was a system player with Orlando, and everybody all of a sudden thinks he is a step up from Vince Carter. HAHA, what a joke. Hedo will NOT push Toronto over the top, I guarantee it. He is a system player, pretty overrated right now
3.) Josh Smith doesnt take alot of 3's, he takes to many mid-range shots. He still a fairly raw player, who just scores off of shots close to the basket and gets noteriety because he makes vicious blocks because of his athleticism. Atlanta doesnt have a guy like a Chris Paul or Deron Williams running the point, but Mike Bibby does direct traffic and set guys up to make plays. Josh Smith just settles and he doesnt move well without the ball, and when you tell him to do something that doesnt involve him, he conplains. If you want that on your team, more power to ya!
Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady (now), Mo Williams, Manu and Tony Parker.

I'm glad I'm not a hawks fan because that guy would irritate the hell out of me. I saw so many plays against the cavs in the second round where he was just giving up dunks to Lebron instead rotating over to help. He has the tools to ba an all-star, but zero heart.
