Wondering who you guys think should make the All- NBA overpaid starting 5, based on next year's salaries I got
PG Duhon -6 mil for a starting point guard doesn't sound too bad, but when you consider his resume and very sub-par year last year, I can't help but think NY overpaid for him.
SG T-Mac- c'mon the guys getting 23 mil next year to provide Houston with continued hope that he'll return to his Orlando glory days. Hasn't gotten out of the first round has very little explosiveness left. I think the guys got 3 more years til he finally just hangs it up.
SF- Peja - He's 32, despite being 6'10 no longer creates mismatches at the 3-spot. Struggled quite a bit last year and was outplayed by Rasual Butler. All this makes his 14 mil he's getting next year look worse and worse.
PF- Zach Randolph- At 16 mil a year, his next year salary is way too high to exclude him from the starting 4 spot. It's a tough call between him and Elton Brand, especially cause Z-Bo puts up solid numbers. He's just not a winner, his shot selection is bad and he is a problem in the locker room.
C- Jermaine O'neal- No brainer, he's getting 23 mil next year. He is good for a couple blocks a game and OK numbers for a starting center, he's a shell of his former self which I don't think deserved 23 mil in the first place.
Other Considerations- Kirilenko- 16.5 mil, Kenyon Martin 15 mil, Elton Brand 15 mil
*Verdict is not in yet on Gilbert Arenas have to see what happens next year
Let me know who you guys think should be on this list
Jason Kidd...Dampier....Dalembert....Hinrich....the list goes on
Gotta add Emeka Okafor to the list. 6 Year 72 million. Overpaid. And Samuel Dalembert has a bad one too.
Chris Duhon is not overpaid for what he has to do. he also was skilled enough to get that offense going but he got tired. Beno should take his spot. Dalembert should have gotten the spot. O'neal when fully healthy is a good center/power forward but he has yet to be fully healthy. Dalembert could be healthty and not very good for what he is paid. He is decent but nothing more than that.
Maybe I'm a frustrated knicks fan, but I saw a guy who fell off after the all-star break averaging over 3 turnovers a game, and getting burned by every pg in the league on a way to a 10-24 finish. He got paid over the mid-level exception after a solid if not unspectacular couple of seasons as a backup in Chicago.
Duhon broke down mid-season, he got fatigued, not to mention he was averaging like 40 minutes a game prior to that, overpaid, yes, but its not nearly as bad as half the other PGs that are overpaid
yeah Duhon was bound to break down. Playing 40+ minutes a game in a run and gun offense on a team that only had 8 players at one point. I agree Sheltwon, he is definately not overpaid for what he does.
dam if only this was for last season Marbury could star on this team
kenny thomas has been getting tons of money and so is adonal foyle with his 6 year 42 million
duhon is not overpaid......for a starting point guard i would expect that much,........Varajeo is overpaid !
Who would give Adonal Foyle a contract like that? He's always sucked
You would think General Managers would be fiscally responsible when handing out contracts knowing there is a cap. Every dollar is important to spend wisely as no one wants to have a high payroll or pay luxury tax. When we discuss a team's future, the first point brought up isn't that we have 2 stud players, it's "We have room under the cap for 2010". What does that tell you?
I don't understand why some players are deemed as so important such as many mentioned and others that they would make so much money. Most trades aren't for players. It's all about giving and getting bad contracts. Owners/GM's are the problem. Players will always take as much as they can get as anyone would. When teams are more prudent as to what they spend, they insanity will stop. Why would anyone give Zach Randolph 16 million fpr multi years. He's a scorer/rebounder who does nothing else and is a pain in the butt to his team. They knew that when they signed him. If I knew it, they should have known it.
ZACH RANDOLPH IS OVERPAID. HE AVERAGES 20 POINTS AND 10 REBOUNDS EVERY SEASON
DHAMP....THE GREATEST MIND IN BASKETBALL. NEXT TO HUBIE BROWN ANYWAY.
I agree with Peja. Most nights he's good for about 9-10 points. Thats about it. Can't rebound that well anymore, not a great passer, just a really good spot up shooter. I think byron scott needs to stop being so conservative and start to play kids with potential like for example julian wright.
Anderson suckered Clevland. He hustles and all, but come on they paid too much for a guy who is not great on D just gives effort. He also has no O to speak of.
Dont forget about the bench...
- M. Redd ( 17 mil. which lands him in the top 10 in the league.. imagine that???)
- A. Kirilenko ( 16 mil. is there any need to comment!)
- R. Allen (19 mil. HOLD ON.... think about it YES he does take the big shots but didn't r. horry too)
- K. Martin ( 15 mil. a solid piece but for 15m that is extreme)
- E. Curry ( 10.5 mil to do nothing but eat.. wow thats life!)
Ben Wallace. Was never the same when he signed with Chicago b/c of the huge contract.
Some of these guys got their contracts when they were big-time players in the league. Jermaine O'Neal was a BEAST when he signed his contract w/ the Pacers. Knee injuries KILLED him. Same can be said for Tracy McGrady. I mean, he's had back, knee and shoulder problems. If he was 100% healthy and playing the way we all know he can, he'd be worth that money. A. Kirilenko signed his contract after being an amazing defensive player for like 3-4 straight seasons. Does anybody remember how great he was defensively? He used to be among the league leaders in blocks and steals.
Now, here are some players who have/had too big of contracts:
Ben Wallace - The Bulls overpaid for a guy who was past his prime.
Eddy Curry - Isiah overpaid him PERIOD. I never thought he was worth it and he's proven that.
Adonal Foyle - He was overpaid by Golden State after a contract year... By Chris Mullin.
Jerome James - Isiah overpaid him too and he was never good in my book.
Kenny Thomas - He was a good player in Houston, but just got overpaid.
Anderson Varajeo - Too much money for a role player... Period.
Alan Houston - He was a great player, but was never worth 100 million.
Rashard Lewis - A good player, but Otis Smith outbidded himself.
Derek Fisher - Chris Mullin overpaid for Fisher during Fisher's stint w/ Golden State.
