The summer of Power Forwards?

Is it me or does the entire season depend on the moves of some power forwards late in the summer? Lamar Odom, Brandon Bass, Millsap, Boozer, Big Baby.... the list goes on(not really, that's pretty much all of them). I've heard many people say that the lakers would be the big favorite if they can only sign Lamar. Some say Boston would be favored if they can resign Glen Davis. Orlando's success may very well depend on how well Anderson and Bass play. Cleveland is in need of a shooting power forward...Portland has been looking to sign one too...Chicago's trying to get a post player who can score...I guess that it's weird to me. This position is still in limbo for so many teams and so many PF's still don't know who their going to be playing with. It's by far the most interesting position right now.

Good Post

I think you are right on all your points. I think what it really boils down to is that there are a lot of diverse power forwards in the league. Quite a few of them play at least 2 positions. Every guy you just named does something slightly different. Odom is the versatile ball handling passer and rebounder, Bass is an athletic banger, Boozer is an excellent scorer both in the post and when facing up. I can go on and on and that's without mentioning a guy like Dirk, Gasol, Diaw, Duncan, Garnett, Marion or even a guy like Kirilenko. Most of these guys fit some kind of special need for each team and adds a unique dimension that makes the team better in some way.

The thing that makes all

The thing that makes all this seem stupid is that next years draft will have a lot of power forwards in the top 20 based on talent. I do not know why people are overspending at a position they could draft for cheaper next season and it is not for a starter but depth.

The Cavs overpaid for

The Cavs overpaid for Varejao that is for sure. The Magic got a real good deal for Bass IMO. A lot of these guys are starters. Big Baby, Lee, & Bass should all be starting. The Cavs will start Varejao too.

Look at the teams we are talking about though. Most of these teams are teams competing for a championship right now. The Lakers, Cavs, Magic, Celtics and some of those other teams probably won't be drafting until late. Besides all of those teams are looking forward to competing this year, so next year generally doesn't mean much to them. That's why better teams usually don't have much of a problem giving away a pick if it lands them a piece they need now. These teams are not like OK City who can wait and develop talent. Besides, how many rookie power forwards or rookies in general come in and lead a team to a championship?

With good minutes i think

With good minutes i think Bass can put up good numbers with the Magic. Gonna be interesting with Lewis/Anderson/Bass/Howard and Gortat. They will be deep but i Expect Lewis to play the 3 I guess. Bass has a nice mid range J so maybe they wont lose the floor spreading they are used to and Ryan Anderson can shoot too.
