NBA Players who excel in Academics
Most athletes, I would say 65% of them, are average-below average in terms of academics... But there are players that have been impressive in the basketball court and at the same time excel in their academics... Take for example a young guy... Brandon Knight is a kid who is able to balance his priorities... He is a very talented player but at the same time, he was/is getting Straight A's at Pine Crest... Do you know some NBA players that maintains a balance between academics and basketball? SHare it here...
I got some players that I know but there are only a handful of 'em... ... ... ...
*Grant Hill was a high school valedictorian.
*Mark Pope was headed for medical school before being an NBA player.
*Chris Bosh is a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors from Lincoln in high school and is also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the Dallas Association of Minority Engineers.
*Emeka Okafor finished his college at UConn with flying colors majoring in finance... WOW...
Thaddeus Young had a 4.0 GPA in high school.
Wasnt Danny Granger accepted into a few Ivy League schools comming out of HS? But decided to focus on basketball and went to New Mexico
I know this isn't basketball but how about Myron Rolle from FSU? A projected 1st rounder, turned down millions and put his NFL career on hold to take part in the Rhodes Scholar program at Oxford. He majored in medical science and is going to open up medical centers in the Bahamas I believe.
Mom must be proud.
danny's a really good example. he almost went to harvard and was feeling a lot of pressure from his dad. he still excelled academically at new mexico though. could have been a lawyer lol
Jay Williams graduated from Duke in only 3 years with a degree in sociology. He went pro after 3 years because he was one of the best players in college basketball and he had completed his degree already. That is extremely impressive.
This year first rounder Gordon Hayward was a 3rd team academic all-american this past season. Probably the top top scholar athlete in this years draft. Guys that come from the "smart" schools such as The Lopez twins(Stanford) and Steph Curry(Davidson) deserve mentioning as well.
i dont know for a fact but im assuming ryan wittman and jeff foote are smart :-)
While I am a big fan of Myron Rolle's, he was far from a projected 1st RD pick.
I heard Danny granger scored a 32 on his ACT. It's out of 36 for those who don't know, and a 32 is in about the 95th-99th percentile for all the subjcts. That's pretty impressive for that good of an athlete.
Believe it or not, O.J. Mayo scored a 29 on the ACT.
he has started his own political organization
Emeka Okafor, graduated in 3 years with a 3.8 GPA, Academic All American.
Marquis Daniels graduated in three years.
Etan Thomas, while I'm not sure about the academic record, has shown to be well read and insightful.
Patrick Patterson graduated in 3 years.
Derrick Rose did well on his SAT didn't he? Or maybe it was someone else.
Brandon Knight 4.3 GPA in high school
Isaac Humphries from Kentucky is a fantastic singer, musician and actor, in addition to traditional academic disciplines.
Its how he was able to skip classes and join the Wildcats as the NCAAs youngest player.
Im told he takes his academics more seriously than his basketball, which is extremely rare for a sure-fire pro.
Theres great footage available of him singing and playing Piano for those that are into that sort of thing.
