I was playing NBA 2k10 the other day and my fried suggested that we use some of the all-decade teams. I was thinking they gotta be coming out the 2000's east and west teams in a game sometime soon. Who would you guys put on them? (note: i've seen players been on both the east and west teams so take that into consideration)
dont know about east vs west, but all 2000's could be:
pg's-Steve Nash, Chauncey Billups, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd, Deron Williams
sg's-Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade
sf's-Lebron James, Paul Pierce, Carmelo Anthony, Peja Stojakovic, Shawn Marion
pf's-Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Amare Stoudemire, Pau Gasol
c's-Shaquille Oneal, Dwight Howard, Yao MIng,
my team of 12 would probably be:
bench-Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming
PG Deron Williams
SG Kobe Bryant
SF Carmelo Anthony
PF Amare Stoudamire
C Greg Oden (healthy of course, if not Andrew Bynum
Back ups: Kevin Durant, Brandon Roy, Pau Gasol, Chris Paul, Andrew Bynum, Steve Nash, Carlos Boozer
backups: Derrick Rose, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Andrew Bogut, Al Horford, Gerald Wallace. Can't think of the last player to complete the Roster, Maybe Beasley, but if he doesn't reach his potential soon, he will never be an allstar.
I have NBA 2k9. I like it, but there are a few players that should be there but are not. For example, Serge Ibaka, George Hill, Nenad Krstic are all not in it but should. I like to play with the most current rosters excluding the rookies. Some of the players also really suck, but are actually better then the game portrays them. That is why I am thinking of getting NBA2k10, as well as being able to play with some of the new rookies. Also 2k9 has also become a little too easy for me. So I am wondering how is NBA2k10, are most of the rookies included, are those 3 players that I mentioned in there, and is it a little harder than 2k9. Also the Thunder are not even a team in 2k9, they use the Sonics instead. That is something that really bothers me, as the Thunder are my 2nd Favorite Team. So any feedback about 2k10 would be great.
its for the whole decade, how can you argue that oden is the best west center for the 2000s
You obviously have only been watching basketball for half of the 2000 decade. These are great picks for 2005-2010. What about the ENTIRE decade. Shaq is hands down the greatest center of that decade. Dwight is the future, but you gotta respect the history of the game. Oden? Seriously? I hope he gets better and plays to his potential but the guy is nothing more than a solid role player when healthy. So to put him anywhere near this list is ridiculous. Sorry for harsh comments but there were some glaring issues here.
DWill over Nash? Rondo over Kidd? No way on those. Oden over Shaq ? Is that serious?
Dwill is the best PG in the NBA. Did you see him against the Nuggets? AMAZING. Kidd is old and I dont see much in him. I have been impressed by Rondo repeatedly, but not so much by Kidd. And you are right about Oden over Shaq. I was thinking current, and I couldn't really think of a good center on the west other then Bynum. I know Oden is good but he is never healthy so that was my problem(and personally I think a healthy Oden is better then Bynum any day)
New West line up
East stays the same, but Kidd is a backup instead of Derrick Rose.
you do realize this topic is about the all 2000's decade team meaning everything they have done since 2000 over the last 10 years right?
wesleymatthews23 Ibaka didn't even play in the NBA last year and Nenad Krstic was signed midway through the 09 season and in my NBA 2K9 Krstic and Hill are there.
PG. Nash, Kidd, Billups
SG. Bryant, Allen, Iverson
SF. James, Pierce, Anthony
PF. Duncan, Nowitzki, Garnett
C. O'Neal (Shaq), Wallace, O'Neal(Jermaine)
Shaq is already on the 90's allstar team so I can't include him here
C:Dwight Howard, Yao Ming, Ama're Stoudemire
PF: Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki
SF: Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter (early Vince was the poster boy of the league)
SG: Kobe Bryant. Dwyane Wade, Allen Iverson
PG: Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups
Tha Prodigy, are you sure because I checked the free agents as well as the Sonics, Nets and Spurs. I had to create those players myself in order to actually play with them. You are probably right about Ibaka not playing last year, but Hill and Krstic should be there. They aren't. I checked before I created them. Where are they at in yours?
Churchboy you can include players from other allstar teams. I have seen it done before. I think MJ was used as an allstar for both the 80s and 90s teams.
Shaq has won 4 championships this decade.. How is he not above Yao, Amare, and Howard. Howard has only been great for 3 years. This is only his second appearance on the All-Defensive team... Yall are crazy. Fans only remember what has happened recently. We, as fans, have a short term memory and we only think of what "we" can remember and that is guys like Lebron... Why isnt Ray Allen mentioned.. He had 9 all-star appearances...
I was gonna mention Ray Allen as a backup on the East but then I remembered Joe Johnson who is better then Allen. Maybe the West when he was with the Sonics, but what about Brandon Roy. I think Roy is better then Allen too.
A lot you dont realize what is all decade team ... How can you include derick rose who is 2 years in league or oden or bynum who didnt do anything except injuring themself ..... It doesnt matter if players is old right now like Shaq or Kidd, thing that matters is what did he accomplished and whose guys have something to brag about it.... my all decade team
sg:Bryant ( wade is very close)
Honorable mentions: Ray Allen,Ben Wallace,Chris Webber,Paul Pierce,Billups
i put 13 players cause i didnt know who to kick out... i know a lot of you will say carter but the guy was one of the most hyped players after jordan people even try to see jordan in him... he was league poster boy in early 2000s... i think its to early to put guys like paul,d-will,howard,melo.... Those guys are 5 years in league and they are 3 years all stars so i dont think they are in all decade teams...
alot of love for picking shawn marion... its amazing how quickly people forgot just how effective he was... probably because his production has deteriorated so rapidly.
IMO he played like a top 10 player from 2002/3 to 2005/6. roughly 20-10 guy with steals, blocks a few assists and even a few (somehow) 3balls..
he might thank Steve Nash and D'Antoni for his ppg but nonetheless he was a stud.
And hes also a guy you want to alley-oop to in a 2k game haha.
Sorry, that post "WHAT???" was actually meant to reply to WesleyMathews23 comment, which is the third comment on this page.
I really liked this topic and when I looked back at some of the great players of this decade; I kind of forgot about who was playing then and where players were playing. For example, at the beginning of the decade Karl Malone, Chris Webber, and Gary Payton were still playing at a high level. Tracy McGrady was still in Orlando, Steve Nash in Dallas, and Ray Allen in Milwaukee. Anyway, here is the real All Decade team reflecting the true meaning of the term:
I picked the teams similar to the all star game. For the starting lineup 1 Center, 2 Forwards, 2 Guards. I did the same for the bench and included two reserves that could be any position. That is why the west has so many PF and the east SG. It is also the reason LeBron is the starting PF and Garnett the starting SF.
C - Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming
PF - Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Webber, Amare Stoudemire, Karl Malone
SF - Kevin Garnett
SG - Kobe Bryant
PG - Steve Nash, Gary Payton, Chris Paul
Honorable Mention: Brandon Roy, Deron Williams, Carmelo Anthony, Peja Stojakovic, Shawn Marion
C - Ben Wallace, Dwight Howard
PF - LeBron James, Jermaine O'Neal
SF - Tracy McGrady, Paul Pierce
SG - Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, Ray Allen, Vince Carter
PG - Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups
Honorable Mention: Chris Bosh, Gilbert Arenas, Ron Artest, Rasheed Wallace
The combined all decade team would look like this (with LeBron James, Yao Ming, and Dwyane Wade being the last 3 in):
2000s All Decade Team
C - Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming
PF - Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki
SF - Kevin Garnett, LeBron James
SG - Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade
PG - Jason Kidd, Steve Nash
carter- karl malone retired in 2004 and stopped playing at an all-star level in 2002, you would put him over guys like carmelo and pau gasol?
llperez, your comment seems a little knit picky to me. Malone was one of my last players in and Anthony was on the bubble which is why I listed him as an honorable mention.
I probably should have noted that I started the decade with the 1999-2000 season and ended with 2008-2009 which makes a difference in Malone's favor.
Anyway, by comparison:
Karl Malone played 5 seasons during this time and Carmelo Anthony 6. Statistically Malone averaged 21.8pts, 8.5rbs, 4.2asts, 1.4stls, 0.7blks during the decade. Anthony averaged 24.2pts, 6.1rbs, 3.1asts, 1.1stls, 0.4blks. Malone was a 3 time All Star (1999-2000, 2000-2001, and 2001-2003) and named to the All NBA second team in 1999-2000 and all NBA third team in 2000-2001. Anthony was named an All Star just twice during this time (2006-2007 and 2007-2008) and he was named to the All NBA third team three times (2005-2006, 2006-2007, and 2008-2009).
They have very similar resumes during this decade but I felt Malone had a slight edge.
Pau Gasol played 8 seasons during the decade and averaged 18.8pts, 8.7rbs, 3.2asts, 0.5stls, 1.7blks. He did win a title which neither Malone or Anthony have done. He was an All NBA third team selection in 2008-2009 and a two time all star (2005-2006 and 2008-2009).
I thought what both Anthony and Malone did in the decade were more impressive.
Dwight Howard,Allen Iverson,Tracy McGrady,Dwayne Wade
Dirk Nowitzki,Kevin Garnett,Jason Kidd
