The Knicks are going to be pissed... Complete.

The Knicks are going to be pissed after this summer. Right now, they think they are getting Lebron and Bosh but as we inch closer to the end of season, it looks like nobody wants to go there.

It looks as if the Knicks are going to end up paying someone more money than they are worth. Lets look at who they are chasing..

First Tier

Lebron James - He keeps playing that card that "its going to be an exciting summer" but he has expressed that he wants to win now and not later. His options include Cavs, Nets, Knicks, Mavs, and probably tons of others. These are just the realistic ones. They may be realsitic but he isnt leaving Cleveland. They have done the work to put together a championship team around Lebron. With Mo, Shaq, and Jamison, he has the talent to keep him in Ohio.

Dwayne Wade - He has voiced his displeasure with the franchise and the talent around him. He has said he wants to stay but is going to wait and see what the team does in regards to winning next year. Options include Heat, Bulls, Knicks and a few others. These seem the most realistic. He will be in Miami next year because the franchise has put Beasley on the market and they have a ton of cash. They are going to get a piece or 2 to keep Wade around.

Amare Stoudemire - This door is almost shut. It looks as if the success of this season make Amare think that development within the organization is enough to win a championship with him at the center of it all. He has discussed an extension with the Suns but it didnt work out. He has said he wants to put the discussion on hold until the playoffs are over. If the Suns cant work out a deal for him, there are plenty of teams that want him starting with the Knicks. Other teams are the Cavs, Heat, Pistons, Suns, Bulls and others. Personally, I think that he is going to open negotiations again with the Suns and stay there.

Chris Bosh - It seems as if Bosh has ruled out a return to the Raptors because they are bad. He wants to win and isnt afraid to say that. He has plenty of suitors but it looks as if one team is after him harder than the Knicks and they have more to offer than the Knicks. That team is the Rockets. Other teams that covet Bosh include the Nets, Cavs, Heat, Pistons, Bulls and im sure there are others. If Bosh is smart, he will go play for the Rockets. He will be with a young, hard working, successful core of players and maybe even Yao.

Summary of 1st tier:
Lebron - Cavs
Wade - Heat
Amare - Suns
Bosh - Rockets

Second Tier

Joe Johnson - As of now, Johnson is the best player on a top 4 team in the east. Why would he leave?? His team is getting better all the time because of the development of his young teammates. Anyway, people say he is going to leave. His possible destinations include the Knicks, Bulls, Hawks, and others. I cant see him going anywhere. Why leave a place in a great area and you are the man there? Dont look for Johnson to bounce up to NYC.

Dirk Nowitzki - Probably least likely to leave but there is a chance. He is the kind of player that could be amazing with the Knicks but he wont leave Dallas as long as Cuban promises he is going to make the team better. Dirk could probably go anywhere and be successful because of the type of player he is. That being said, possible teams for him include Mavs, Knicks, Bulls, Heat and more. He is going to stay put. Dont look for this guy to leave because he has a great team that got unlucky.

Rudy Gay - Someone is going to mess up and give this guy a max deal. He isnt a max type of player but he is the type of player that can change your franchise for the better. He going to be pursued by alot of teams but they will quickly quit going for him when they see that he is going to ask for so much money. He is going to be like Ben Gordon and turn down alot of money on a good team and take more money from a bad team. Possible teams include Grizz, Bulls, Knicks, Heat, and more. This is the first guy that I am going to say that might go to the Knicks. It seems as if Gay is more about money right now than he is about winning. If he wants to win, he will go to the Bulls. As of now, I dont have a grasp on where he might go but I can say its between the Knicks, Grizz, and the Bulls. Any other team would completely surprise me. The Knicks could get Gay and he would fit well..

Carlos Boozer - Has said that he would love to play in Miami and has considered NY. I cant see him staying in Utah next year but I also dont see him going to NY. IMO, he is headed straight to Miami after they get knocked off. His possible teams include the Knicks, Heat, Pistons, Bulls, Nets and more. He is going to Miami and he is the piece that I referred to earlier that is going to keep Wade put.

Second Tier Summary:

Joe Johnson - Hawks
Dirk Nowitzki - Mavs
Rudy Gay - Griz/Knicks/Bulls
Carlos Boozer - Miami

Third Tier

David Lee - Since the Knicks already have him, you would think that they would be the team he would stay with, right? Wrong. I cant see Lee staying in NY. There are teams that just need him to be pushed into playoff contention. He probably has lots of suitors but there seem to be 2 major teams where he would excel and those teams are the Bulls and the Nets. Im sure that the Heat would also love to have him but they seem to be chasing other people. Lee wont be in NY next year but he might be close. Look for him with NJ or Chicago...

Ray Allen - Allen is a smart guy. He has gotten his ring so right now, he probably wants money. He is getting older so he wants that last big contract to make sure that he is financially safe. He isnt going to be back in Boston but where is he going to go? NY would be a perfect place for him to make a big wad of cash and get lots of PT and big numbers. It would make him feel young again. He has other options that include Chicago, Cleveland, and probably a few others. I cant say for sure but NY is looking awfully good for Allen right now.

Mike Miller - A perfect fit for NY and their style. I big guard that can play lots of positions, run the floor, and make open jumpers. He probably has other teams in mind and isnt going back to Washington, where he would have to compete for a spot but never compete for wins. Possible suitors for him include Chicago, Boston, NJ, NY, and others. After all of that, I can see him in NY.

Tier Three Summary

David Lee - Nets/Bulls
Ray Allen - Knicks
Mike Miller - Knicks

That means, that the only guys that are possibly going to NY are all guard/forward players. Ray Allen, Mike Miller, and Rudy Gay all play pretty much the same position. Those are the 3 out of 11 that I can see going to them for big money. It looks like they are eying 2011 FA market that includes some all-star players like Al Hortford and Carmelo Anthony.

Good job NY.. You get to be average for another year. Any other team that is bad for 8 years has their entire team, their whole staff, and everything redone. When they do it and it doesnt work, they try again and stop trading freaking draft picks.

Ok Knick fans, let me have it.

I'd have to agree, I don't

I'd have to agree, I don't think they're going to get anyone. They'll probably try to trade for Rubio and buy him out so he can play PG and get some lesser free agents.

it hey are patience and savy

it hey are patience and savy they can wait another year and grab Melo. Denver will be the next team to lose a star and it could be New York's gain. New York can still make some lopsided trades and maybe add Tayshaun Prince or Emeka Okafor for young talent like Collison and Daye. As long as Knicks do not panic they should be good. Having money puts you in a good position especially if everyone else overspends. Also another reason why it would be good for them to do that is because the new CBA may make it easier to sign more talent

even if they wait another

even if they wait another year or two, they gave houston the right to trade picks next year as well as their 2012 pick as well as jordan hill, all so they could clear space for THIS summer. Im gonna be laughing my ass off if they mess this whole thing up.

only time will tell and also they draft where they swap with houston is not looking to be a very talented draft but that i know can still change. This is the draft that everyone will want to be in. If Knicks are wise they can still get two solid players in the second round

dirk

You have a good analysis and realistic expectations for the Knicks. Only problem is you have Dirk as second tier to someone like Bosh and Amare. Guy is a hall of famer that still gets it done. Other than that good job on breaking it down.

The only thing about Dirk is

The only thing about Dirk is that he isnt going to get a Max deal because of his age. I know he is only like 32 or something so that puts him way behind guys that are 26-28 years old. I agree that he has had a better career but at this stage in the game, the 4 prime FAs are James, Wade, Bosh, and Stat.

with cap space the Knicks can

with cap space the Knicks can make trades and not have to match salary. They could say this to Detroit, we will take Prince off your cap if you give us a pick or young player. This would open up cap for Detroit since Prince is not in their long term plans and they have a lot of young players and players signed to long deals. They could also do this with New Orleans maybe for Okafor which i doubt because he has a long contract but maybe if Collison who has proven to be a starter at the point came along. This would shore up two positions and they still have cap space for maybe one year deals with people so they can have a chance at Melo. A team with Collison, Chandler, Gallo, Okafor and some one year player could do good in the East. Look at the Bucks. How many star players do they have on their team that is healthy. Jennings and Salmons is a slight below star and they have a bunch of role players and they took ATL to a 7 game series. Knicks would have a young nucleous and cap space and sign melo and have a line up of Collison Chandler Gallo Melo Okafor and they would have a bench with Douglas Walker and some other pieces

Good pt. Sheltwan about

Good pt. Sheltwan about trading for other players and cap space.
I see the Knicks getting at least 1 big player either by trade or free agency.

Not sure how 8th deadly sin sees them missing out on everyone.
Only thing I agree with him on is they need to stop trading draft picks.
So basically you have their roster looking like this for next year
PG - Sergio Rodriguez, Toney Douglas
SG - Ray Allen, Wilson Chandler, J.R. Giddens
SF Rudy Gay, Mike Miller, Bill Walker
PF Gallo, Bill Walker, draft pick
C Earl Barron, Eddy Curry, draft pick

That makes the signing of Miller, Allen look even worse unless.

The list of free agents is getting smaller with Rondo, Kobe, Camby, Ginobli signing extensions.
If Lebron, Wade, Boozer, Stat, Bosh are all gone which is not a lock and Dirk stays with the Mavs as expected.they could definately make a play for Rudy Gay or Mike Miller but both of them are unlikely.
They don't need Ray Allen and I don't see him wanting to play in NY.

What about Brad Miller and I don't buy his whole statement about not coming to the NY if they offer him a good deal he'd probably come.

Here are some talented under the radar players the Knicks could sign and only 1 is a SG/SF
Brendon Haywood, Udonis Haslem, Josh Howard, Tyrus Thomas, Jordan Farmar, Raymond Felton

Not sure I see Lee going to the Bulls
I could see him with the Thunder or Nets it depends on the draft as well..
Also why does everyone assume Wade is staying he could opt to play in Chicago with Rose, Noah, Deng a young team that has some real talent.

The Knicks haven't been average for a while where you been man.

My Predictions

LeBron- Cavs (They've made every personnel move he has asked for and the team as is suits him perfectly.)
DWade- Heat (They're doing everything in their power to attract a second big name. Plus, it's Miami. Would you leave?)
Bosh- Rockets (I don't see either party (Bosh or the Raptors) wanting part ways w/o a sign-and-trade. The Rockets are VERY interested and have enough pieces to make it worthwhile for the Raptors and still field a championship contender moving forward.)
Dirk- Opts in and stays in Dallas
Amare- Heat (If old-man Shaq can win a title with a healthy D Wade, middle-of-his-prime Amare can too.)
JJ- Bulls (JJ and the Bulls are a match made in heaven. They have a nice young core, but badly need an outside shooter and a clutch scorer. Check and check.)
DLee- Thunder (OKC is one of the under-the-radar players this summer, and Lee would be a great fit. Solid rebounder and glue-guy who doesn't need many shots to have a huge impact.)
Boozer- Nets or Knicks (I'm not a huge fan of Boozer, so I think he'll end up being the 'leftovers' of this group, signing either with the Nets (better situation) or the Knicks (better history/environment).)

Keep sleeping on Bosh as a Laker

The Lakers are going to do a sign and trade with the Raptors that sends
Shannon Brown and Andrew Bynum to the Raptors FOR CB4.

CB4 is going to be Laker.

Sorry Rockets, Heat, Knicks, Mavs,Cavs, Bulls, and Nets fans.

???

* Lebron Stays...if they get to either ECF's or NBA finals...if they lose to Bean Down..he's a Clipper...laugh but it might happen...they only need Lebron to better 10 times better then Cleveland..let me explain..
1.Baron's better than Mo...when B Diddy is focused and 100% he's flat out a top 5-10 pg period...
2. Gordon can be a way better player than West/Parker/ and Gibson...point blank he's a better shooter...
3. No small forward to compete with for start...Enter Lebron...
4. Blake Griffin..going to be a better Varejo and Hickson...energy and the ability to finish strong..
5. Kaman is a true Center that is better than Z and Shaq...younger and better Defensive player...
6. Most Important...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
7. And this one is probably the deal closer...A top ten pick and future picks through trades...that and young players that will have time to develop give some star small forward alot to think about... That team could win the West one or 2 years in the near future...Cleveland is not to great a team after next year maybe...time to start thinking for the future
* Wade goes home to Chicago and wins ECF's next year...over Lebron...that Bulls team is built for Wade to take them to the promise land...Miami was a nice stop...got his ring...partied hard...now it's time to take his hometown team to the finals and cement his legacy...Wade statue next to MJ hitting clutch 3 pointer to win Finals over Kobe...
* Bosh goes home to Texas...dont count San Antonio and Dallas out ..but I say Rockets with those NY draft picks and Scola get it done...they may throw in a Battier or Budinger or Ariza too...San Antonio are the Dark Horse to get Bosh by offering Manu and RJ...I can see that happening...to be with Duncan a win a ring..Dallas almost has the edge but they'd probably need to part with Dirk...cant see it

Knicks

Sign Stat start him at C and be the Suns of the East and still not make the playoffs...Nash is not walking through that door....you will be sorry you passed on Jennings, Collision, Holiday, and Lawson...all this because you loved Rubio and Steph Curry...Traded your future # 1 picks for a wiff of Lebron's ass...wow you guys think Gallinari is a real selling point...I'd take Chandler with no regret...and he's the one you's pass off as expendable...oh he and David Lee...wow....have fun with Stat and or Joe Johnson...2 selfish stat guys...perfect for D'Antoni ball...your team will suck for years...the basket ball gods have cursed you.

NYC Baby

8 Deadly Sin,

I don't think you recognize the appeal of NYC over Cleveland. The only reason Lebron is even going to consider staying in Cleveland is that he is from Ohio and so has family and friends there. But this will not outweigh the benefits of living in NYC. NYC is just a nicer place to live. The only problem with it is that it is expensive, but Lebron's wealth takes care of that issue. Then add the marketing benefits of playing in the most important city in world. Win in New York and for the Knicks and more doors open up than winning in a lesser city (see the post-retirement career of Olajuwon and compare that to Willis Reed, Clyde Frazier, Phil Jackson, and Senator Bill Bradly form the Knicks' last championship team). You may think Lebron doesn't need this. But I bet his corporate sponsors are telling him that if he plays for the Knicks they will pay him millions more than what he makes now in Cleveland. That's going to be compelling.

I think Lebron is coming to NYC and another superstar is coming as well (because of the city and to play with Lebron). There is just too much money to be made for those guys to turn down this opportunity especially when together with the Knicks young players and two super stars the team will immediately be the favorite in the East, so it isn't like they have to take a losing season. Also it is chance to be part of the real history of the NBA. Only the original franchises really count as far as being part of a real legacy. They are still writing books about the Knicks and the Celtics while the great Rockets and Spurs teams are going to be quickly forgotten. Even after four championships, Duncan still doesn't get that much respect by casual fans. Crazy and something that would never happen to a New York athlete.

I think it will be Wade and Lebron in NY next season. Though Bosh is probably a better running mate for Lebron. That team will be better than either the Cavs team or the Heat team that both super stars could stay at, so why not make the move? Corporate sponsors will make up the difference in salary which isn't too much to begin with.

I know Joe Johnson played for

I know Joe Johnson played for D'Antonio in the past, so why would he want to put himself in the same situation he left? Maybe I don't get it. The only free agents I see the knicks being able to get are the PF's in Boozer or Amare. But they aren't that much better then Lee imo.

IDK....I feel like if the Knicks dont get anybody they really want[which is VERY possible], I think they'll go into a panic attack and probably reach for lesser-talent.

I mean, I think patience will run short with the fans and Donnie Walsh & Co.

If we miss out on Bron, Wade, Bosh, and Amare, what makes Melo guaranteed?

I think that is a possibility but not like just giving someone who's a 5-6 mil player a max deal. Walsh will make his moves and see's what happen.

The biggest piece is Chris Bosh- If NY gets Bosh, NY could lure Johnson.

Let's not forget- NY has two good pieces in Gallo and Chandler.

New York is like LA in that

New York is like LA in that people will come there and the only reason why they havent is because of no money. I think it would be wise to wait on Melo because I think he is a lock to leave Denver. Melo could has a chance to make the finals every year in the East. In the West Denver get knocked out of the first round but if they played in the East the could go all the way to the Finals. That is slowly changing as a young Bull teams and Buck would contest but neither matches Denver in talent right now.

I cant see Melo leaving the Nuggets. He's to close to Carl and Billups for that to happen. The Nuggets were two bad inbound passes away from the finals last year, and who knows how far they would have went with Carl running the show this post season. Melo will stay because he already has superior talent around him considering what the knicks are working with. Two decent pieces in Gallo and Chandler isn't enough guys.

If Carmelo wants to win a Ring? He would leave Denver. No way he's winning it there.

Also, I understand the chemistry thing in the NBA but some players (like Carmelo) will put that on the backside for a chance to win a Championship. Carmelo would be a MVP if he went to a Eastern team.

Im going to try to address a couple issues here.

When I said that the Knicks are going to miss on everyone, I meant that they are going to miss on everyone. They might now get the guys that I said. Gay, Miller, and Allen are the only guys that i see actually considering going there. I didnt say that they were going to get all three of them. They are just the guys that might go there.

What else??

Umm.. I didnt mention some of the lesser guys like Brad Miller because I dont really consider them some of the top 12 FAs available. If you do, then thats your opinion and you should make a post about it. Otherwise, I dont care.

Umm. This doesnt include what they might be able to do with trades. Afterall, they have first round picks that extend into like 2018 that are tradable. I guess... They might be able to bring some guys in with trades. This is only talking about the hyped FAs of 2010.

What else???

I can think of anything else right now and I dont fee like going back and reading everyones issues. If you have one that you want me to address right now, let me know.

Brad Miller doesn't even fit

Brad Miller doesn't even fit NY system so that wasn't a big issue.

The Knicks will get some players. I believe they could find some players depending on who opt out, player options and team options.

The Knicks might look towards big FA's then try to actually look for role players to soften the blow if they don't get a superstar player.
