For those who thought Ron artest was done as a defender, this series showed you that he still has it even though hes no as quick as he used to be.
Durant shot 35 percent (which is horrible) and 28percent from 3 for the SERIES!!!. thats as close as lock down defense on a superstar as you are gonna get
This is the main reason we got RonRon. For the rest of the playoffs( till at least the finals) he will not have to guard another player who has durants ability and i think you will see him start to score a lil more
I didn't look at the box score, but late in the game RonRon made some key baskets, at least down the stretch he played well.
ron has accepted his role and hasnt tried to dominate the ball. He defends the other teams best player and did a great job on durant. While he hasnt shot all that well, its not like teams can just leave him open. Lakers couldnt be happier with picking him up.
Ron is just lucky he won't have to see Melo this series. He was able to bully Durant, which is something he wouldn't have been able to do with Melo.
melo would have had to earn his points as well. not that it would have mattered though since the lakers would have won. Either way artest played great defense on the top scorer in the nba for the series which is a slap in the fact of many people on here who said hes no longer a very good defender
He bothered Durant ALOT when Durant didn't put the ball on the floor yet. He smothered him on screens and got into his chest when he caught the ball and hadn't gotten into his move. For the most part, after that Durant could beat him off the dribble. Durant didn't make his shots alot of times, which is what Artest was trying to do, but he did get beat off the dribble alot. Guess it doesn't matter if your inefficient. lol.
in conclusion.....great defense
Durant is weaker, he still can't guard a stronger Melo or LeBron
he actually had his best defenisve game of the year against melo when he shut himdown one game. Not to say that he would have done that for a series.
He did play great defense, but let's not act like Durant is a veteran who had playoff experience.
The main reason Artest was brought to the Lakers was to defend Melo and possibly LeBron. He deserves credit for making life difficult for the NBA's leading scorer, but his real test won't come until he sees LeBron in the Finals (IF both teams get there).
Maybe but the fact that it was his 1st playoff series and he did get to the ft line a lot.
Not sure I would call it great defense outside of Game 1.
I'm pretty sure no one is confusing Durant with a vet but lets also not act like he didnt lead ther leauge in scoring and is one of the best scorers in the game. Also no one can check melo or bron but ron will make them work harder for there points then anyother player which is all we are asking from him. Lebron needs to worry about boston and maybe Orlando( who i think will be in the finals). past three years all ive heard is how cleveland is ready and each time they dont make it to the finals. This will be year four
not great defense?...he made the leading scorer in the NBA shoot 35 percent and 28 from tree...what would you realistically call great defense then?..i say realistic because no one is gonna cause durant to go scoreless. is it really that hard to give credit where its due?..like when people say bruce bowen or battier played great defense.
he did play great defense. i think durant should have been a little quicker when he caught the ball and drive on ron. but this is big boy basketball, no excuses for durant, he wasnt good enough and needs more work as does that whole team but artest did his part and thats why the lakers are moving on. do u guys think artest might see some time on d williams this series?
i doubt if he will see time on DWill. if anyone will see time it will be kobe
i dont think the jazz will win but d will is gonna be a monster in this series, imo.
When Artest puts his mind to it, he's still one of the best defenders in the league. Now that he doesn't need to do much in offense, he can focus his energy of defense. In the regular season, I think the Lakers didn't do their best, so Artest probably didn't really work too hard. But this is playoff time, after losing 2 games to the Thunder, I think it is a good wake up call for all Lakers. It is time for Artest to put his mind into defense and play his best basketball of the season.
By the way, Artest is also a good defensive matchup for Melo. When Artest is focus, it would be tough for Melo to score as easily as he was against the Jazz. Melo is hard to stop because he got size and skills, but Artest won't get pushed around since he's as strong if not stronger than Melo. Also, AK47 wasn't playing in round 1, if he was, Melo may not be able to score as much as he did.
I think it is more likely for the Lakers to put Artest on Boozer and Kobe on Deron.
You just see how Kobe shutdown Westbrook and Artest got the muscles to bang with PF. This would be better matchup for the Lakers.
The rest of the Jazz would not be as good if Deron and Boozer are locked down.
i thought about artest on boozer, but they couldnt do that to start games because that would mean Pau Gasol is gaurding CJ MIles.
You are right that Artest shouldn't be put on Boozer right at the start. They should use that strategy at the 4th quarter.
Artest on Boozer at the end game, that would give Boozer a surprise and surprises are always key at the end game. Artest on Boozer at the end game can throw Boozer off his rhythm. At that point, they may want to have Odom on Miles, Artest on Boozer, Kobe on Deron, and the two other players on either Gasol, Bynum, Shannon Brown, or whoever is on the court.
right now fisher is on dwill....it will stay that way unless dwill starts killing and the jazz win. if he kills and they lose then fisher will stay on him
