i was curious after watching mario west this season so i decided to do some research and find out exactly why this guy has a spot in the NBA
-was a WALK-ON to the georgia tech basketball team
-his first year he redshirted
-his next 2 years he rode the bench averaging 3.3 mpg, and 9.8 mpg respectively
-his junior year he averaged a whopping 5.2 ppg in 22 mpg
-as a senior he averaged 4.7 ppg
-he won the NCAA slam dunk contest which has led me to believe this is the solitary reason he has a job..cuz of his athleticism
-he's a career 20% 3PT shooter
-his career average of 0.9 ppg is the lowest among active players with at least 100 games played (ok so i made that up, but it's believeable isnt it :)
this guy is not an NBA caliber player...i hope that the hawks realize that they can dump this guy and pick up a more productive player in the draft...its only fair to us fans who have to watch this guy play when guys like will conroy dont have a job in the NBA
atleast he made an NBA roster after all of that in his NCAA career... props to him
Hes a defensive stopper and thats all he is, i honestly think hes worth way more than his numbers.
He may not have the resume of a NBA player, but dude works his ass off and plays hard. He gets after it defensively lol. I think that's what's earning him a paycheck, not that he won a slam dunk contest. I have no problem with him being the 16th man on a roster.
Shannon brown respects mario west's athleticism:
wow thats a block..
he could have blocked that with his elbow.
He's a really good perimeter defender, for a very low price. Sadly stats don't generally show that.
That block was disgusting. Shannon....oh Shannon. Why are you so cold?
Anyway, whenever someone mentions Mario West I have to laugh because Jon Barry gave him one of the "best" and "worst" compliments you can give a basketball player. "West will give you the hardest 2.5 seconds he's in the game of any player in the NBA."
The guy has great character he is loved by that organization
he works hard and is a great guy.
You got to root for a guy like that.
But on another note Damn Shannon Brown made it look like he was playing a elementary kid.
He just took the ball from him in mid air.
