Something I didn't know about the Salary Cap
Did you know: You cannot have a MLE unless your over the cap? This means, teams like NY, MIA, NJ and other cannot use a MLE this season.
i dont know all the details of the salary cap. I see teams spending money who are over the cap all the time. I mean the lakers were way over the cap last summer and they used the MLE on ron artest to bring him in.
my bad, yeah you said teams that were under the cap
Is Less then +4 mil I believe you can use it.
Actually, as long as the cap space is less than the value of MLE, then the team can use the MLE (only once each season).
The salary cap is calculated based on existing contracts + 1st round draft picks + RFA's cap holds. However, team can actually complete S&T to utilize the salary cap so that they can also use the MLE.
Last year, the Raptors pull out a trick to use the MLE even though they supposingly would have more cap space than the MLE. They did a S&T of Marion for S&T Turk to increase the cap to the point that the cap space was less than MLE then they used the MLE to sign Jarrett Jack. This same trick can probably be done by resigning the team own free agents too.
Knicks should be able to use the mid level after they sign enough players though unless they leave cap space.
It is not too likely that the Knicks can sign enough people to fill their cap space in order to use the MLE.
They have to gain those salary cap figure through either signing their own players or S&T.
They have around 38 mil of cap space with only Eddy Curry, Gallinari, W Chandler, Giddens, Douglas, and Bill Walker on the book (total of 18mil). No 1st round pick.
They would have to do a few S&T in order to get near 51 mil in order to trigger the condition to use the MLE (that is the Knicks can't sign any FA to fill the cap space, the cap space must be filled by re-signing own players or S&T).
I understand basketball games and stuff like that, but I have little to no knowledge about the salary cap and stuff like that. That's why I never post trades or talk about where free agents will go lol.
