I'm surprised more people

I'm surprised more people didn't vote for Lebron. Because they usually vote for guys that make that many spectacular plays.

Wow, D Wade with 13

Wow, D Wade with 13 points(he hasnt played D all season)? Varejao with 18?(Dude should be all defensive 1st team). Howard, IMO, is really overrated on D but underrated on offense....LeBron is underrated on D too...

And no surprise there, I think everyone knew D.How was getting DPOY, the only awards that dontt seem to be a one man race is COY and MIP

@mikenike

@mikenike. You think Howard is overrated on D, while LeBron is underrated? Varejao should be on the first team? I know you're a Cleveland fan, but seriously...

I'll tell you one thing... There is NOT ten defenders in the NBA that are better than Marcus Camby. If he would've been on the Blazers all season, he'd have gotten more respect from the voters.

Yes I do...theres actually a

Yes I do...theres actually a BIG defference, one is 2 time DPOY and the other is not....When you win something by that big a margin 2 straight yrs that must mean that you are a defensive juggernaut, which Howard isn't. He got 9 blocks yesterday, right? can you tell me how many of those were on ball blocks? They were all help side blocks from crappy magic wing D...Lebron guards the best player on the other team in crunhc time and his blocks are just as, if not more, impressive...The defensive rebounding numbers LeBrons not to far behind either and Lebron is a perimeter player while howard is a center...Who plays better 1 on 1 D? I am certainly not hating on Howard though, I said he is underrated on offense and IMO his passing is underrated too

Do you know how much of a

Do you know how much of a percentage of blocks in the NBA are on the ball? Not many. Majority of blocked shots are from the weakside, etc. And Howard is the king of weakside blocks. Howard IS a juggernaunt on D. He dominates the paint defensively and is the MAIN reason Orlando is a top two or three defensive team.

Not only does Howard lead the league in blocks, he also leads the league in defensive rebounding. I don't know how you figure LeBron is that far behind Howard in defensive rebounding when Howard is averaging over three more per game.

Howard leads the NBA in FG%, rebounding and blocks... Do you know how rare that is?

I explained that, Because

I explained that, Because LeBron catches less rebounds than Howard because he plays on the PERIMETER, if he played C I have no doubt whatsoever that he would avg 10 plus rebounds per, he is close already....Plus one is 6-11 the other is 6-8...Both are amazing weakside defenders but when it comes down to it, LeBron is the better 1 on 1 defender

That is rare, very...but I

That is rare, very...but I could argue that 50% from the field is just as impressive as Howards % because, again, he plays on the perimeter...He also basically led the league in scoring for 70% of the year while averaging close to 9 asts.

hard to compare their one on

hard to compare their one on one defense when they gaurd two differnt positions. both do a great job gaurding their man. but dwight probably impacts a game with his team defense a little more wich is natural for a center. The magic get away with playing a small lineup with lewis as a 4 becasue dwight almost singel handidly takes care of the paint and boards.

What does leading the NBA in

What does leading the NBA in scoring for 70% of the year and averaging nine assists have to do with defense?

LeBron is a good on ball defender and great weakside defender, but he doesn't dominate a game defensively like Howard. Howard dominates the paint defensively. His impact is greater, which is why he's won the award two years in a row. He's led the NBA in rebounds and blocks two years in a row. You can't downplay that.

What does FG% as you

What does FG% as you mentioned have to do with d????

I will just leave it as you win...

but for a man with his size and athleticism I would think he should probably average 4 blocks not the mediocre 2.5 or something he averages now, im done

He averages closer to 3, not

He averages closer to 3, not 2.5.

I wonder how many shots he's changed and/or altered this season though.

Howard is the DPOY in a landslide. Give him his due.

But you got it Mikenike.

But you got it Mikenike. LeBron is the best defender in the NBA. He should be the DPOY. Dwight's impact is overrated on D. You're right.

I'm not mad. I just think you're on LeBron's nuts. Raise up and take a breath for a minute. LeBron is the MVP, but Howard is the DPOY.

Oh stop being sensitive...

Oh stop being sensitive... Ain't nobody disrespecting you! People give their opinions about Cleveland, LeBron or Wall that are different from yours and you get anal and say things too. Stop being hypocritical.

If it makes you feel better, I apologize for "disrespecting" you and telling you to get off LeBron's nuts.

its this simple. dwight

its this simple. dwight howard does what he does on a nightly basis while being the only legit big man on the court for his team. he is able to block shot and rebound while for the most part not getting into foul trouble with poor perimeter defenders on the floor. he doesnt block 4 a game because he cant afford taking that many chances where he can get called for fouls. most of the time he jumps straight up and alters your shot. i think lebron is a litlle overrated as a defender. u see these chasedowns and all of a sudden he should be first team all defense. nah, he only guard the good players when it matters and i think against real good players he will get torched(like when melo hit that j to win earlier this year). its always lebron this and lebron that i got bad news for u, he is overrated til he wins something. i mean the cavs are getting to be like the celtics and lakers. im tired of hearing about them. d howard is the dpoy period end of story.

oh and by the way, he is the only player ever(russell and wilt probably did it but no blocks back then) to lead the league in rebounds and blocks in consecutive seasons. cmon sayin lebron should be dpoy is like sayin steve nash should be mvp. sure some phoenix fan could try to argue but u know he is a homer and its just not going to happen.

LOL.

Anyway, Howard did earn this award. The man is a beast, he can grab 10 rebounds with ease and get 3-5 blocks a night. I believe he dominates the defensive end better then LeBron dominates the offensive end.

To me LBJ is overrated on

To me LBJ is overrated on D, sure he gets his spectacular plays that get him on the top ten,and dont get me wrong theyre amazing, the man is a freak, but from the games Ive watch of him this year he seems to just an average on ball defender, with that being said I think Dwight is a bit overrated on D also, but then again noone plays D in this league anymore so i guess he deserved it.

The one who is overrated on

The one who is overrated on D is Lebron. Yes he makes those impressive run down blocks but Howard lead the leaue in Blocks and Rebounding also he is the anchor of his team defensively. He can control a game with his defense while Lebron can only control a few plays with his.

And for all of those run

And for all of those run down blocks LeBron gets, he still only averages one a game. Durant actually averages more blocks than LeBron... Not by a huge amount, but he does average more.

Mbah Mboute should've gotten some votes. He's a better defender than D. Wade is in my opinion. He's not one of those guys who averages a lot of steals or blocks, so maybe that's why he was ignored by the voters.
