Russell Westbrook Comparsion

I just heard Marc Jackson saying that he thinks that Westbrook plays a lot like Gary Payton. He some what does, but payton was a good shooter, while westbrook really isnt. and payton was an elite defender, while westbrook is a good defender, but isnt near on the level payton is.

wat u guys think of jackson sayin tht.

payton was a different type

payton was a different type of player but i understand what he meant. Payton was strong and long but was not really a run jump type athlete. Also Payton was a better playmaker. Westbrook is a combo of a lot of different players but i can see a lot of Payton in who is he is growing into as a player. Westbrook also needs to add a post game.

And I don't think he does.

And I don't think he does. The only similarity he has with Payton is he's from California.

Westbrook will be a good player, but let's not put him in the same breath as GP. GP is one of the greatest point guards and defenders at that position to ever play. He had a complete game offensively.

Westbrook will make his own

Westbrook will make his own comparison and his own player type in his prime. Just like Durant.. They are creating a new style of basketball.. Durant is a 6'10" SF who can shoot over anyone, at any time, and he doesn't need to be strong or too quick. Westbrook is a point guard who in my opinion, i like to compare him to... (here go my negative points *GULP*) a SMALLER and SHORTER LeBron James.. He can rebound, defende on ball, freakish leaping ability, willing and very good passer, can drive it in easily, decent 3pt shot, fast, strong, pretty long arms, good help side defense, leadership, work ethic.

I think the Gary Payton

I think the Gary Payton comparison is better then Tony Parker...the other name they threw around while broadcasting...but GP is one of the best PG's to play the game and one of the best defenders. I bet he's hating the NBA right now with all these Point guards tearing up the scoring columns, no way in hell he'd let em all score that much.

Anyways...who would Westbrook compare to? No Lebron James crap plz. I'm talking actual Point guards...not inhumanly athletic freaks...who plays Pg for the Cavs

Thinner, but quicker version

Thinner, but quicker version of Baron Davis maybe. I think a cross between Baron Davis and Rajon Rondo is what were looking at. It not gonna be like you take those 2 players abilities and combine them to get Westbrook but I think if you take Baron Davis' game from that fact that he relies a lot on his athleticism and then you add Rondo's defensive mentality and ability to find teammates and that is what I'm getting at.

Hate to say that as a T-Wolves fan but that is what I think of Westbrook. Scary to see him paired with Durant and co. for the future.

I don't think he has a comparison. He has his own game. High energy, elite athlete... Quick first step. Elite speed.

I don't like the Baron Davis or Rondo comparisons. Those are point guards. Westbrook is a slasher. I'm thinking he slashes like D. Wade and has similar speed like LeAndro Barbosa.

@ButlerBulldogs Rondo is a

@ButlerBulldogs

Rondo is a slaher, he cuts through the D like butter plenty of times, its just that he dishes it out then where as D-Wade takes it to the hole consistently. And Baron Davis was a pretty solid slasher early in his career where he didn't have as much trouble with injuries. He had a decent shot but he really started to develop that in year 3 with the Hornets and then once they moved to NO. I think in time Westbrook can also develop an even better outside game and develop into more of the type of player that Davis became in his prime. Both players were also physically dominant over many of the other PGs in the game which is what I think Westbrook will thrive on once he hits the gym more. He def. has the frame to add weight and become a even more of a physical presence at PG.

westbrook is his own guy.

westbrook is his own guy. Payton had a few similarites, but they were different. Payton was a much better shooter and had one of the best pst games from a pg ive ever seen. He was more of a natural pg. Westbrook is a better athlete and finshes with power while payton would finish with floaters and pump fake guys.

Russell has a long ways to go before he is on paytons level as a player. A prime GP would be the man ahead of durant imo.

There is no exact comparison

There is no exact comparison for him at all. I would say Steve Francis, but he's not that kind of shooter or even that level a scorer. He's not like Payton because Payton was a tougher defender (even when he lost some athleticism), a more well-rounded offensive player, and much more of a natural PG. I can't make a comparison for him at all

I didnt know slasher was a

I didnt know slasher was a position in basketball...just cuz the guy is good at slashing doesnt mean he's not a point guard. Stop being difficult and just htink of a comparison. He's not THAT good that there is nobody that you compare him to. I like the Rondo one alot actually. Long, quick, fast, athletic, crafty...Westbrook is like a Rondo on steroids. Which is where they get Baron Davis lol

They get baron davis mostly

They get baron davis mostly because of his passing ability, strength, and on ball defense.

point it, THERE IS NO COMPARISON
