Watching this Denver- Utah Game (Carmelo Anthony)

Does anyone really see Carmelo staying in Denver past 2011?

To be fair- This isin't on the level of Lebron leaving Cleveland but it's something to think about. Carmelo has to deal with two of the toughest teams in his own division in Utah and Oklahoma City. Not to mention- Denver could never get the right pieces to win a championship.

Carmelo will be 26-27 by next season. It's around that time to win a NBA Championship. With Nene and J.R Smith becoming potential free agents- I could see Carmelo sitting down, looking at the OKC's, Utah's and even Portland's in his own division and decides to move East to get a better shot at making the NBA finals and adding a championship to a legacy that could put him in the HOF with a championship

Thoughts?

He'll stay. Melo wants to

He'll stay. Melo wants to compete. they certainly do compete. Coach Karl is amazing for them and I just don't think Melo would leave Denver. New York is always an option but as long as the Nuggets compete he stays. Denver should be competing for quite awhile so he will stay.

I understand Noname but hear

I understand Noname but hear me out

Portland, Utah, Oklahoma City.

Those are just teams in his division. I understand the Coach Karl factor, that's huge for him but I think winning a NBA championship is up there as well. I would love Carmelo to become a Knick but it's bigger then NY. Unless Denver could actually start holding on to 1st round picks and get more talent- I don't see Carmelo believing he can win a Championship in Denver

What makes you so sure New

What makes you so sure New York will win a championship? Lebron might not come over, he might end up staying. Ya you still have plans to sign two quality free agents in 2010 off season. Well, who they gonna be? I've heard Joe Johnson and Chris Bosh but that's about it. Well if you do end up signing those two, then no Melo comes over because not enough money. Denver has won a division championship once, just last year as a matter of fact. And heck they almost swept LA and won a conference championship, If it is wasn't for those two outabounds steals in games 1 and 3, then the Nuggets would have been going to the Finals and they might have won a championship then. Who's to say it won't happen again? Maybe this year, if they get past Utah, beat LA in round 2 and then the rest from there is a cinche until you go to the finals. All I'm saying is you never know where he will end up. Yes, melo has contenders in Utah, Portland, up and coming OKC, but I think he likes the challenge, playing with Chauncey, getting coached by one of the best in the league Coach Karl. He has a lot going for him already in Denver. Why not stay there and try to win a championship. In New York he does not know what's going to happen. Yeah its is hometown, but Mike D'antoni might leave in a couple years(Just spitting out what might happen, no rumors) Melo might not end up jellin' with his new teammates. Remember what happened when they brought over AI from Philly? That didn't work out and they shipped AI to Detroit for Billups, and all of sudden they are good and contending for a championship. Who's to say the people that New York brings over in 2010 won't end up gellin' with Melo. Don't start telling the future until you know for sure what's going to happen. The only thing we know for sure is that Bosh is leaving toronto, but where to, who knows? You can try and predict and you might be right, but you don't really know. That's just your thoughts. Melo has a lot on his mind come 2010, he might like it in the Mile High City, he might want to back to his hometown, or he might go somewhere else. Miami, Chicago, or maybe some other team that has a lot of cap space in 2010. Personally I think he should stay in Denver until he is absolutely certain that he can't win a ring there(it could still happen in 2010, 2011 2012, maybe continuous Championships) This might and very well could be past 2010. The game ain't over until the fat red lady sings. (metaphorically speaking, not literally)

I think the Nugs are a tight

I think the Nugs are a tight group. As much as people knock on the for being "thugs", they got chemistry. They have a hell of a coach and leaders in Billups and Melo. I think their team currently has the most defined roles as far as guys knowing what is expected from them...

Billups- Leader/Clutch Scorer
Affalo- Defense/3 Point Shooter
Melo- Big Time Scorer
K-Mart- Defensive presence and energy player. Big shot blocker.
Nene- Post up O and defensive post presence. Rebs.

JR- Off the bench instant O.
Lawson- change of pace/high energy PG
Birdman- HUGE engery player/reb/shot blocking/excitement
Balkman- all-around defender and hustle pts.
Karl- coach's son/inspiration

Rest are more or less fillers. Everyone is happy with their roles IMO, (maybe JR wants to be a starter but he still gets his). I think they have great team unity. IMO Melo is very happy there and unless the squad drastically changes in the future, I see him enjoying his time in DEN and staying there long term. DEN has shown him love and he has shown the city love as well.
