phil jackson was fined 35k for saying:
"As far as the calls that he gets on the floor, I think a lot of the referees are treating him like a superstar; he gets to the line easy and often," Jackson said on Tuesday, prior to Los Angeles' game against Sacramento.
what the hell is wrong with that statement. Dudes are throwing fines out for that?
Can't say anything anymore
I think it was for hinting that the refs are not impartial, because it would be awful of him to make such an untrue statement; everyone knows the refs are completely unbiased and always call a perfect game.
There are certainly biases against Durant. Maybe on the point that he claims large portions of money from refutable financial institution. The Financial Reform Bill Summary HR 4173 has already passed the House of Representatives and is now due to be presented to the Senate. If the Senate passes this bill we might be close to seeing quite a few changes in our financial institutions.
i mean i know im a laker fan, but im honestly surprised. I guess you cant say anything these days that might even slightly look bad for the refs. That's pretty soft. Oh well, not my money.
Durant must be pretty soft too then... Because he said he felt "disrespected" by Jackson's comment.
I personally think it was kind of a disrespectful thing to say and being this close before the playoffs kind of fringes on taunting, but it’s ridiculous to get fined for giving your opinion of another player, especially when you did not really say anything wrong.
NBA fines make me sick...some people dont even make 35 k in a yr....
phil always tries to play with the refs a little. I really dont look at what he said as anything bad or disrespectful. If I was durant i would have just laughed it off and said whatever. It seems like you could fine a lot more people if saying "that guy gets lots of calls" is now worth 35k.
I think it was smart for Kevin Durant to say something though. I think he's trying to give himself extra motivation and light a fire underneath his team. I remember hearing stories about how Jordan used to make things up to motivate and put himself into an angry mood before games.
Phil was aiming for the refs, but he hit Durant.
Stern is looking for money any way he can get it these days.
That logic is so flawed, especially coming from Phil Jackson. I guess Kobe never gets any superstar calls, huh? M.J sure as hell didn't get any superstar calls.
" I think a lot of the referees are treating him like a superstar"
Maybe because he IS a superstar?
it has nothing to do with mike or kobe or whether or not durant is a star. It also has nothing to do with durant even does get the benefit of the whistle. Phil does this stuff every year just to get in the officials ears to try and play mind games. When i first heard it, i just figured thats phil being phil. He does it with his own team as well saying things in the media that gets under their skin. I just dont get how that was fine worthy.
Superstar talent. I wouldn't say he's a bonafied SUPERstar yet though. He hasn't even played a playoff game yet.
Say that while you still can...
i think when your arguebly top 5 in the league or top 7, your a superstar in this league...but yeah i heard somewhere Jackson said this to kinda get in the officials head about how they should call the game when they play the thunder in the playoff...have them second guess that they might actually be sendin this guy to the line a bit to much...he did a good job...but durant answer back was even more impressive...how he said it would be bad for the game to all of a sudden change how they were officiating...but seriously sometimes he is gettin calls where you will just blow on him a he will go to the line...and if everyone is stating this issue i think the refs will take a look at this
Actually doesnt the money their fined go to charity? im not sure...
It goes straight into Davy Sterns pocket I believe, as if they werent thick enough
the fines all go to charity.
Oh, so the huge fines aren't all that bad if thats the case...
This guy b itches in games, between quarter interviews and post games etc.
He deserves a fine complaining after all the calls his superstars have gotten over the years.
35k is nothing to these guys, Jackson makes what 7-9 mill a year or more?
I'd feel disrespected too. After the season Durant has he's earnt the right to be called a superstar. Not to mention the comment itself is laughable, considering Bryant gets more calls then Durant does.
naw durant gets alot more calls then bryant does this year....
Who is pocketing the money from the fines anyway? I always thought the money collected from fines should go to a charity. Maybe every month pick a charity and any and all fines collected within that month goes to that charity.
As for the fines and reasons for these fines, I think it's rediculous. You say something about a player or ref and there goes thousands from your wallet. These are all grown men and women and you can;t speak your mind when you want to. I can get on TV and call the president an a$$hole with little problem but don't say a ref blew a call.
Fines for fighting, bad interaction with fans, and drug test are okay, but take the leash off for speaking your mind.
durant will put up 50 in game 1 . .
this is phil doing his mid game thing...i love it..it gets under the skin of the player he talks about and they always respond and it effects them int he games. did the same thing with d.jones when he was in denver
d.jones is certainly NOT kevin durant
i remember after game 5 of the famous lakers/kings series back in 2002, phil went off on the refs big time. The next game, some people seem to think the lakers got the benefit of the call. Phil works the refs as well as anyone.
