THIS YEAR'S DECLARATIONS
I don't understand why everyone is declaring for the draft. I really dont think that they realize that it is only 2 rds everyone can't get picked, it is not the NFL draft. A lot of players are just wasting their time testing the waters.
i'veheard tons of guys who entered in the past say they figured they werent gonna get drafted but they were done with playing in school and wanted to get paid playing ball. There is plenty of money to be made in europe or in the dleague playing ball for those that dont care about getting a degree.
There doing it because of the potential lockout in 2011. They want to make sure they make the NBA before hand so they don't end up graduating from their respective schools without making it to the NBA, and then have to pursue actual jobs instead of playing pro basketball. (actual probably a very small percentage of those early entries would graduate, again pathetic and sad) If you ask me, its pretty pathetic and just shows you how much this incoming class only wants to pursue playing professional basketball. But even if you don't get drafted you still have a big chance of making it to the D-league, and with so many recruits this year from the D-league, those undraftees should be making it to the NBA after all, just not as being drafted, but from the D-league.
I think the guys staying are the ones making the mistakes.
Exactly DWill. I agree that this potential lockout is having a big effect on the declares this year. I also think that it is the trend recently to go one and done. A lot of these guys would have been trying to make the jump from HS to Pro, they never wanted to go to college in the first place.
Is the lockout going to be like the 1999-2000 season (if I remembered right), with reduced number of games?
or no games at all?
If it happens.
dwill theres actually a large percentage of athletes that actually do stay in school... you can still go to college and play in the nba... you just cant be elegible for the ncaa..
There's really no drawback to entering without an agent as a junior. You can still come back and enter after your eligibility ends the next year. I think that's why guys like JuJuan Johnson, Demitri McCamey, Talor Battle, Malcolm Delaney, and Alex Tyus have decided to declare. See what the scouts think of you and where you need to improve and then come back as a senior with no catch.
I dont think the possible up coming Lockout..Has anything to do with the large amount of players declaring..For years there have been large number of players that have left early..Every year when the Early Entries names is release..You'll see about 20% of guys you've never heard of...Guys from Division 2 & 3 Schools, NAIA,Junior Colleges & International players. That will never play in the league..But for some reason maybe problems with coaches,Academic problems, playing time or just fed up with school life..And Feel its time to move on..Some players think they're better then they really are..And others are looking for a future overseas..There are so many leagues around the globe these days..
yeah, i dont think the potential lockout has anything to do with guys coming out either. I dont think anything in regards to rookie contracts is even being discussed. And i seriously doubt they will try to add years a guy must remain in school.
