Kyrie Irving and Brandon Knight
I was watching Sportsnation yesterday, and at the very end they did a question and session with Jay Williams, dressed like a king, crown, cape and all, or a wizard for that matter. (quite funny to watch) Jay Williams was subbing for the other analyst who was visiting his family(I can't remember his name for the life of me, and I think he had a death in his family) Anyway, Harrison Barnes, Kyrie Irving, and Jared Sullinger all came up and asked him 1 question. Irving asked Jay how he could be Duke's best PG ever. Jay then asked him who does he think is Duke's best PG right now. He said Greg Paulus. (laughable I know, but that's what he said.) He then told Irving to become a more passing point guard and make your teammates better. (Duke will be quite a team next year with Irving, Smith, Plumlee brothers and possibly Singler all returning.) So anyway here are my questions about Irving and also Knight because I think they will be battling each other neck and neck all year long and could possibly face each other in the final Tourney game come April 2011 or earlier.
1. Who do you guys think is the best Duke PG? (please limit this answer to a PG within the last decade otherwise I will not who are you talking about, and probably no one else will either.)
2. Will Irving beat that guy(whoever it is) and become Duke's best PG?
3. Who is better, Irving or Knight?
4. Where will Knight go, I think it will be Kentucky?
5 Who do you compare Irving and Knight too?
Just in case you are wondering, Barnes asked Jay how he can continue to be the #1 recruit . Jay answered stay aggressive and make your teammates better. (Personally I think he should definitely focus in on making John Henson better, he could be battling Sullinger, and Kanter for best PF. Although I don't think he will make it. Kanter is better hands down, especially with Coach Cal being his coach, but Sullinger will make quite a run.)
And honestly i can't remember what Sullinger asked him. I think it was something about PF's ,and I really don't think Jay answered it, he just raved about how great Sullinger was. (pathetic if you ask me, but whatever) And today they are doing a Sportsnation special called the Lebronathon. You guessed it, all topics will be about Lebron and his greatness. I will not watch it, because it will be very bias and they are probably going to have Lebron come on as a special guest. Nothing against Lebron, I just don't like watching biased sports things. (i try not to be biased on here, but sometimes I just can't help it with my favorite team being the Jazz, and how good they are. And then the fact that they have the Knicks pick this year, just adds to it because it is guaranteed to be a lottery pick, which means they could really make some noise next season, and possibly be the champions. heck they are already making noise, going from borderline playoff seed last season to challenging for the second seed this season.)
Sansan what was that? Don't try and sell me some of your stuff, just answer the questions. I hate telemarketers by the way, and your post sounded exactly like one.
i'm not sure about other questions but i would take Knight as a player, Kyrie looks better PG for me(actually i don't see any problem for Brandon to become an elite SG especially when his body looks pretty big right now) but as a player i think Knight is a little better and as a NBA prospect too...but don't get me wrong both guys are going to be fantastic freshmen imo.
Kyrie- poor man's Chris Paul
Brandon- Gilbert Arenas
I don't think you give Brandon enough credit as a passer, he is not Gilbert Arenas and he does look for his teammates.
Knight is like Rondo as he is good defensively and can do a little of everything on offensive.
Like Rondo? I would like to disagree...way better shooter, bigger but not that good passer actually very different players in my eyes..
IDK but for me it very very good comparison..Gilbert avg around 6apg in both his 28-29ppg season before injuries that's really good imo for that type of player
both big strong maybe not like Rose but still little underrated athletes, both good slashers good jump shooters have good range can score in many ways and all in all just terrific scorers with some other nice pieces in their game.
I used to think night was the better player until I seen both play in the last to games.
Their both pg one Irving is a better game controller and more of a pg that can score.
Knight is a scorer that can play pg.
For instants in the Nike hoop summit Irving was the one as far as pg's making all the plays and running the team he wasn't forcing anything like knight was. He was steady and made big plays for them to come back.
this is not based off that one game I also watched both their high school team play this year and Irving had that same command. He will look even better next year after playing with all those scorers in Durham.
Knight is a good scorer put needs work on using his team mates he can pass but he looks to score 1st and 2nd.
-Irving also has the #1 player in the class 0f 2011 on his team and had Dexter Strickland(5* recruit) last year. He doesn't need to score for his team to succeed. Knight has no one close to that level on his team and he needs to score 40ppg for his team to succeed.
- You can tell watching Knight though that he does have good vision he just needs to shoot first. Irving is more of a leader ,but not really a game changer. I can see Knight being both in the future.
will be the best nba pg for duke but not the best college that is still jay williams.
he is def a better player than knight. he is more natural of a pg, quicker, better decision maker
Jay Williams is definitely the best Duke PG to play ever imo. You're talking about a guy who would've become the number 1 overall pick in 2001 (lol Kwame Brown) had he not decided to return back to college after winning the national championship. Jay was the perfect PG (6'2, good passer, good shooter, penetrates, leadership) though he was a below average free throw shooter and it ended up costing him a 4-point play against Indiana in 2002 in the tournament.
Irving has the potential to be better than Jay though, if he has a phenomenal freshman season; he's one and done...unless of course the NBA lockout changes his mind.
Knight has a lot of potential, won't be surprised if he ends up in Kentucky. Imagine a slightly less athletic John Wall but better shooter.
1.jay williams is more athletic than kyrie (something you cant teach). i think kyrie will end up being a better passer than jay was though. williams was pollished when he left duke and made an immediate impact for the bulls as he showed signs of superstardom in his first year in chicago if we can all remember back that far. he was the best duke pg ever. (no disrespect to bobby hurley)
2.i cant see irving being better than jay will due to the difference in athletic ability and explosiveness toward the basket
3. knight has more potential but irving is better now due to him having a better grasp of the point guard position in which they both play
4. knight will go to kentucky but he should choose syracuse due to jim boeheim being so reliant upon his pg (they never really come out of the game) ex mcnamara, flynn, hed get all the pt he wants, he'd develope under a national champion/hall of fame coach plus solid pieces (kory joseph, scoop jardon) from last year and new recruits from this year (fab de melo)
5. irving is similiar to chris paul (reliable jumper, good passer, team leader) knight is similar to gilbert arenas (good jumper, decent passer, scorer first)
