John Wall and Reebok?

Is Reebok hitching it's future on John Wall?

Yahoo has a story today that likely No. 1 pick John Wall could be joining LeBron James' marketing firm. Now the FirstCuts angle: deep in the story, there's a mention about a potential shoe deal that is likely to send a few shockwaves. First, the details:

In the short term, they’ll be negotiating a sneaker deal that promises to invigorate a stagnant market for young players. Reebok is banking that Wall can be its product’s face with the demise of Allen Iverson, and multiple sources say the company’s prepared an offer that could be worth $3 million-$4 million annually. Here’s the test for LRMR: Does it have the chops to get Wall more than the traditional shoe deal?

“Wall isn’t going to be LeBron, but he’s the most-hyped player to come since him,” a rival sneaker industry official said. “And, sometimes, hype is just as important as talent.”

Shock No. 1: They're still giving out shoe deals worth this much? The last few years made it seem like shoe deals had really dried up. Shelling out that much for John Wall would be a big change of course. Judging from Darren Rovell's tweet, it would be risky.

Shock No. 2: LeBron is going to let Wall be a part of Reebok? Wall has been a Nike guy for a bit now. He wore Hyperdunks at Word of God in high school. He switched between Hyperdunks, Hyperizes and LeBron VIIs at Kentucky this season. Now, ultimately there's probably some division of labor. LeBron, the person, would probably love to have Wall rocking his kicks in the NBA, but LeBron, the business man who runs a marketing firm, has a responsibility to get Wall the best deal possible.

I can't imagine Nike would pay marquee dollars to Wall. It's not like they're at a loss for big hoops endorsers. But Reebok? They could use Wall. Still, it'd be strange to see a Wall sneaker deal brokered by LeBron's marketing firm with anyone other than Nike. Oh, and let's not forget that Reebok reportedly offered LeBron more money than any other company coming out of high school, but he spurned them.

All I'm saying is this: If Reebok does spend big bucks on Wall, the first order of business should be getting him in some sort of viral video where he jumps over the EasyTone girl and dunks. I'll wait for my check, Reebok.

You can't say that John Wall isn't as talented as Lebron! fans will get upset!

It's not a matter of the

It's not a matter of the fans getting upset over that being said. Its the fact that if you say Wall is going to be as good as LeBron then your just either crazy or stupid. LBJ is a 6-8 genetic freak and while Wall may have freakish speed and athleticism, there is no way he ends up being as good as LBJ.

I keep catching flack for

I keep catching flack for this, but what really separates John Wall from Devin Harris besides an inch. Their eerily similar players, and I think this is the kind of player John Wall will be. Its not a bad thing, Harris is an all-star level player. But to think John Wall is going to be the next great thing and the PG prospect coming into the league since Jason Kidd and Magic Johnson (yes, I've heard those whispers also) is just insane. He's like Harris in that he's more comfortable in an uptempo game, inconsistent perimeter shot, but an elite level penetrator in this league. I was more high on guys like D-Will and Derrick Rose coming out as I was to John Wall. I'm not saying John Wall won't be good and an all-star and worth a high pick, but guys need to relax with the future HOF talk. But he's definitely not the specimen Lebron is and idk if you should be throwin around big shoe deals to guys we are not absolutely sure are Lebron-like coming out. I think we all seen as the season went on, we had to tone down some of our expectations of Wall, as some of his play began to come down to earth and he looked like a freshman many times. Still a ton of potential but lets just relax...

Say yes to Nike!!!!!!

I will be highly upset if Wall chooses Reebok over Nike, I can't even remember the last time I wore a pair of Reeboks; probably when AI was a rookie. I didn't know any better I was @ least 10 years old so I guess that showed my immaturity level because, I'm from VA & people in VA don't wear Reeboks @ all not even Iverson's. Anyway where I'm going with this is wearing Reeboks is like you're disrespecting your feet. Nike is the best clear cut choice for a player especially for the simple fact that the way they design their shoes are spectacular, but hey who am I to comment on his financial situation if they are going to give him boo-coo bucks then I'm all for it, but I won't have a pair unless he's with Nike.

RBK is a very solid brand

RBK is a very solid brand shylo. I know I don't give a damn if mine are Nikes, Jordans, RBKs, Adidas, what have you. If you worried about "disrespecting your feet" you must have a pretty nice life b/c wear I come from, we just played in whatever we had. I'll take whatever is the cheapest as long as it doesn't breakdown within a couple months after I buy it. I don't need a pair of hyperdunks to get the job done.

As far John Wall goes, take what you can get. And if RBK is offering you more take that. Nike isn't gonna make your legacy, you are.

Did you not read the bottom

Did you not read the bottom of my comment when i said, '' WHO AM I TO COMMENT ON HIS FINANCIAL SITUATION IF THEY'RE GOING TO OFFER HIM BOO-COO BUCKS THEN I'M ALL FOR IT"

I swear you people take one thing wrong out of a persons mouth and run with it.

No I read it man. I'm just

No I read it man. I'm just saying, RBK aint this horrible brand your making it out to be. Plenty of people have had success with it. Just cuz your not rockin Nikes doesn't mean your disrespecting your feet as you so wisely put it. And if you don't want people to run with what you say, don't say it. I understand your last comment but that doesn't defend you saying RBK is disrespectful to your feet.

And I have my contacts in sir. Puttin your words in caps lock isn't doing nothing different for me in terms of how awesome your post is.

lmao ....Well you do have a

lmao ....Well you do have a point but, I just don't like Reebok's style of shoes compared to Nike even some of the Adidas look better and i'm not a big fan of them either. It's not about the success to me it's about how they look on my feet. I was a big big Jordan fan coming up but he doesn't get my money anymore because of how his shoes look. As far as Reebok goes I can only say they only have 3 shoes I actually liked .... The Reebok Question, Reebok Answer 1, & the Reebok Pumps ala Dee Brown's

I agree with scoutguru. He

I agree with scoutguru. He is Devin Harris to me. Why are you guys making him out to be some god pg. All he is is athletic and extremley quick. There will be loads of guys like that ( Selby, Marquis Teague , Tony Wroten etc. ) in the coming years. Anyways wall will be either Devin Harris or a super athletic Kyle lowry ( draftexpress scenario). Anyways, I wouldn't even consider rbk if they offered me money especially if Nike will offer me and use my special air. ( crazy commercial)

I agree with that 808. I

I agree with that 808. I think he has very good potential, but ultimately will turn out to be a player similar to Harris. For that reason, I really hope my Wolves get Turner. Im ready to accept anything from the 3rd-5th pick though considering our past history.
