Greg Monroe vs. Ed Davis

Now that Ed Davis has declared and assuming that Monroe does, I think it is a good comparison of some pretty different players. So basing this off similarly post between Aminu and Johnson.
1) Better first 3 NBA seasons.
2) Better career in NBA.
3) Better potential.
4) Who would YOU pick first? Why?
5) NBA comparisons.

Monroe is not and will never

Monroe is not and will never be Gasol, Gasol is longer and more athletic. Monroe will have the best first three seasons but Davis has better potential and could have a better career if he keeps working hard.

..

1) Better first 3 NBA seasons. I think they would be similar in their first seasons, Monroe around 10-15 ppg,5-8 boards, 2-3 ass, a block and 0.5 steals.. davis 9-13 ppg,6-9 boards, 1 ass,1.5-2 blocks and a steal..
2) Better career in NBA. Monroe.. I see him ass better all around player and better offensive,in his prime around 19-21 ppg,8 boards, 4 ass, 1.5 blocks, 1 steal.... Davis is going to be better defensive player for shure, i see him in couple all defensive teams
3) Better potential. Monroe... I know you wont agree me but this guy can do everything... I picked him cause i think he has better feel for the game
4) Who would YOU pick first? Why? I would pick monroe. Why ? Read 1), 2) and 3)
5) NBA comparisons. Monroe- Chris Webber without explosivnes.... Davis- This is hard, maybe samuel dalembert at pf with better offensive game

don't get me wrong Ed is

don't get me wrong Ed is lottery talent but i think Monroe is something special could land as high as top5 i think and i have him i all 4 categories(OK maybe potential is something like similar)..

Greg is unique one but mix of L.A. due Odom/Gasol would be nice i think..
For Ed..more defense much less offense but i see Bosh in very early point of his career.

1) Better first 3 NBA

1) Better first 3 NBA seasons. Monroe. I think Greg will go 14-5-3 in his first 3 seasons. Ed will go something like 8-6-1bpg
2) Better career in NBA. Davis. I don't see Monroe with that high of a ceiling but that was a really tough one right there.
3) Better potential. Davis. Length and athleticism. Monroe is more skilled but not as talented athletically.
4) Who would YOU pick first? Why? Monroe. Quick fix at PF, but can he guard a NBA Pf?
5) NBA comparisons. Monroe-Odom. Davis-T. Chandler(?) not sure on Davis' comparison. I feel Monroe is an Odom-clone

1) Better first 3 NBA

1) Better first 3 NBA seasons.: Monroe. I think he can be a 13 ppg 6 reb 2 assist and 1 block guy off the bat. I think Davis gets like 6 ppg 4 rpg and 1 bpg as a rookie. I think Monroe will be a borderline All-Star player by his 3rd year, while I don't ever see Davis being close to an All-Star.

2) Better career in NBA. Greg Monroe. I think his stats and overall impact will be better, but I do think Davis will be a better defender.

3) Better potential. Greg Monroe. If he can develop a strong right hand he'll be a MAJOR problem in the NBA. I think Davis is at best a P.J. Brown type role player.

4) Who would YOU pick first? Why? Monroe. He has All-Star talent and physical gifts. He's not quite an athlete, but he's no worse than Pau Gasol. Davis is, as I keep saying, a role-player at best IMO.

5) NBA comparisons. Greg Monroe: LaMarcus Aldridge meets Pau Gasol; Ed Davis: P.J. Brown

Iggy

I would say almost word for word what you wrote. I have no interest at all in Ed Davis. I think he will be a decent role player, but I definitely prefer Aldrich or Patterson. I am slowly talking myself into Monroe more and more (maybe it is because he is the most likely candidate to be drafted by the Pistons). Initially I did not love him, but I think he is an exact replica of Odom. If he can develop his jump shot and extend his range a bit, and work on his right hand he will be a very very good NBA player. My one real worry about him is on the defensive end, but after he beefs up a bit I think that he will develop into a competent defender.

I think he's going to be a

I think he's going to be a very good player, one who alot of people will be surprised how good he'll be. I never really liked the Lamar Odom comparison though because although to me he's a better passer than Odom, but a MUCH worse ball-handler. Odom is a point-forward, but I think Monroe is more of a passing big man. Similar to Pau Gasol. Odom is more perimeter oiented than Monroe will likely ever be, and he's got the ability to play 4 positions, while Monroe only can play PF and C.

Monroe

I think he has a pretty good ball handler. He is not on the level of Odom, and he probably never will be, but he still is solid ball handler. Once he develops his right hand more then he won't turn the ball over as often, because he will be able to take people off the dribble in either direction. At the moment he just wants to force it left every time and defenders know that it is coming. His shooting game is somewhere that he has to get better. I think that the way his career goes depends a lot on how he develops his jump shot. If he can get a mid range jumper to go with his overall passing and ball handling skills there will not be many big men who can match up with him.
