NMSU Aggie Jahmar Young arrested for battery on police officer
LAS CRUCES - An embattled Aggie basketball player was again arrested this weekend.
Jahmar Young, a New Mexico State University guard, was charged Sunday by Las Cruces Police with battery on a peace officer. Details of the incident were not immediately available.
Young, 23, was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center and released on bond the same day.
The Baltimore native recently declared for the NBA Draft this summer.
In 2008, Young was convicted of battery and assault after an on-campus incident in which Young was accused of exposing himself to a woman in campus housing in August 2007. Young accepted a plea deal that allowed him to avoid jail time and received a one-year deferred sentence and unsupervised probation. Fifteen hours of community service and completion of a sexual harassment awareness course were also ordered as part of the deal.
What was he thinking?
I think he can kiss the NBA goodbye for this year, at least. He's not well-known by most scouts anyway for the most part, and him playing for a small school limits his stock anyway. His character risks only makes things worse for him. He wasn't a projected draft pick as it is, so this hurts pretty bad. Gotta think man.
Very unfortunate, because clearly this is something that will forevermore hang over his head, whether he plays NBA basketball here or overseas. Gotta use better judgment than to do something like that you know will put you in trouble.
