Why isn't he a better player?
He's just not that good, bro. He came out of Detriot, I have plenty of friends from there so I was rooting for him, but.......he's not that good. And he doesn't have the body type to take punishment. Sorry, kid.
Welcome to the site. You'll see me often. Bring you A-game cause I promise to call you out!!! For now, hello!!
Dhamp2...the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.
Rodney played high school ball in Indianapolis. I played against him while he was attending Northwest High School.
He's an AMAZING athlete, but he'd rather rely on the jumpshot. He can't put the ball on the floor either... Below average ball handling skills. He's also too passive.
you'll come to hate dhamp...
anyways hes got the physical tools to be a good player... he lacks a jumpshot and dedication...
He doesn't lack a jumpshot... If anything, he settles for it too often. He can shoot the ball though. That's not his problem. His problem is he can't put the ball on the floor and he's too passive. He also doesn't have the highest basketball IQ.
He's a crazy athlete though. He was the high jump champion his senior year in Indianapolis. He comes from a very athletic family. His mom was a world class sprinter.
A lot of what yall say could be true but the thing is I think his situation and basketball IQ is to blame because there have been guys that could not dribble well who has done pretty good. He may not be totally focusing on basketball as well. With his athleticism and ability to make shots at a decent rate, He should be playing better if he knew how to fully utilize his skills. With 2 strides and one dribble the best athlete can get to the basket, you add a fake or stutter step and you should get open. Jason Richardson is not the best ball handler and early on he was not much of a shooter but he worked on it and he is a least a solid to slightly below all star type player.
Yeah, I totally agree, he definitely seems to lack basketball IQ and a feel for the game and his game. He may also lack drive and desire, from reading all these posts, doesn't seem as if he actually has improved much, at least his stats and my eyes certainly don't see it. Also having bounced around the league from Philly to Minnesota back to Philly could have hurt his confidence.
Yeah, personally, having seen him throughout his career in college and the NBA, his ball-handling has always been a total mess. He simply cannot put the ball on the floor in even the most simple of circumstances on the court. I'll never forget him trying to do a simple crossover to get in the lane, and dribbling the ball off his foot in his rookie year; I was so shocked to see an NBA wing player whose handle was so poor. I thought he may have improved on that, but I guess from what everyone is saying here, that hasn't happened.
He does seemingly have a nice jumper, but he had/has bad shot selection from what I've seen of him previously. Sort of like he's an athlete, not an actual basketball player. Severe lack of fundamentals on both sides of the ball. Too bad he hasn't improved on that. I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of the league sooner rather than later.
Carney is not from Detroit, I'm from there, You must be thinking about Chris Douglass-Roberts who is from Detroit and attended Detroit Cass Tech and Detroit Northwestern........
Just posting youndave. CDR is exactly who I'm thinking of. Well, what can I say. I prefer to go from the top of my head and not use Google. It happens sometimes. But............Willie Warren still won't be a lottery pick. I thought I'd throw that out there.

neither carney or douglas-roberts will ever be serious players..they're just decent role players with their length and scoring burst ability
Maybe not Gerald Green dumb, but when he was with the Wolves there were rumours that he couldn't grasp any sort of offence. He's good at what he does though; a 9 or 10th man who can come in, play some defence, run the floor and maybe get hot from deep. But that's about it.

Hey people, this is my first post/thread on here. Anyway, what I wanted to ask everyone is, why do you think Rodney Carney isn't a better NBA player than he is right now? Right now, he is a marginal role player, but with his athleticism, he should be a much better player than he is today. Anyone have any thoughts?
