Zoubek vs. Pittman
Dexter Pittman. He's more talented offensively, and he can be a true NBA player if he ever loses the right amount of weight. Zoubek is not very good and is only a factor in college because of his height, which helps his rebounding ability.
What I really like about Zoubek is his ability to rebound, especially on the offensive side. The guy doesn't need to score in order to be a successful NBA player, but him around guys that can score he will rebound and look to pass to the open guy, for them to shoot the ball. I think he has a great nba body, he just needs to become a better 1 on 1 defender and play defense with feet rather than his hands, and I believe he can then become a successful back up center.
He is slow and not very talented. Gray at least averaged more than 5 ppg in college.
Gray was a beast in college and against slower teams he does pretty well but he is just not quick enough for the NBA. I think a lot of player will fall in this category. pittman may be just too lazy because when motivated he looks the part of a NBA player.

the thing is Aaron Gray doesn't actually play, he sits the bench. Can Zoubs be in the nba sure but Pittman actually has a chance to make an impact for a team.
are you kidding me...brian zoubek is the most horrid basketball player i've ever seen, hes a huge dumb screen-setting untalented giant with no offensive skill
pittman is actually big and skilled, just slow and not athletic cuz of his weight
Really? Just last year he wasn't even on the nbdl radar and now he get some air time. Point blank this crop of players are terrible. If duke woulda played in a different bracket zoeback would of been expose for being another george mureson. I can't believe you said he pass are you kidding me? He is 7'1 with a dude at 6'8 checking him. He shoulda avg 10 point and ten boards a game. I don't understand how duke win NCAA title and go to th NBA and don't even last long. Duke got blessed for being in a sorry bracket when da summer league start ask zoeback to show up. Matter of fact he will be another Obama driver
No is questioning his rebounding. Everyones questioning his ability to defend and contest effectively, show any offensive ability outside of offensive rebounds, range past 2 feet. This guy is just like Craig Forth his championship year.
Except Zoubek as a starter averaged twice as many rebounds as Forth did in about the same amount of PT.... Duke has not played anyone where there big men has scored or took over a game on Zoubek, I know its college and not the pro's but he proved himself defensively against top D1 teams. I think he played very good defense and one of his strengths is his ability to contest shots.
At the start of the season i would say Pittman, But in the last couple of months you saw Zoubeks confidence explode. Both guys are 2nd rounders, so they will be 2nd or 3rd string centers. So that mean defense and rebounding is usually more important. Aaron Gray is better than both of these guys on offense but he is not as good a rebounder as Zoubek. Pittman is to fat.
By the way, just heard a good argument for Zoubek getting into the NBA.... If John Brockman who stands 6'7" can get in the league because he is a good rebounder.. Why can't Zoubek who is a BETTER rebounder and has more of a defensive presence....?
just a question to ponder! btw draft xpress has zoubek getting drafted..
No way is Zoubek a better rebounder than Brockman that crazy... Brockman was a consistent double double in college.. Bockman would abuse Zoubek.... People are overrating Zoubek, he will be a liability in the NBA (aganist players his size)...
zoubek has zero chance, imo, of playing multiple seasons in the nba. he may get 1 or 2 chances but wont stick. he could have a similar career to shavlik randolph. aaron grey was a monster in college and he can barely get pt. atleast pittman, if he wants to have a career, he can work hard on his conditioning and maybe like a kendrick perkins. i think zoubek reached his max potential the last half of the season. and lastly, jon brockman is a way better rebounder than zoubek.
Let me throw a new name in the mix Jordan Eglseder from Northern Iowa, 16 points and 8 rebounds in his first game at the Portsmouth, has 3 point range and can stretch the D, plus he is 7' and about 280. He is probably slower than Zoubek and Pittman, and although I think his chances at getting drafted are pretty slim, do you guys think his ability to stretch the defense with his range will give him a shot to make an NBA roster?

I'm not a Duke fan at all, but I can't help to notice how Zoubek has improved over the last month or two of the season. You can't teach 7'1'' and although he is never going to be much of an offensive player, he is a good post passer and rebounder and a guy who isn't afraid to be physical. With Pittman starting strong and trailing off at the end of the season and with the exception of a couple games a non factor in conference play, who would you take between the two with a mid 2nd round pick if your team needed a center?
Height- advantage - Zoubek
Strength- advantage - Pittman
Offense- advantage - Pittman
Rebounding - advantage - Zoubek
Fundamentals - advantage- Pittman
Shot Blocking - advantage - Pittman (but at 6'10' and not explosive you'd have to wonder if he'd be as effective in the NBA)
Altheticism- advantage - Zoubek
Speed - advantage - Zoubek
