Thoughts on Pistons? Draft?
To me they seem to be in horrible position right now.
*Rip and Prince aren't getting any younger and they really don't have any replaceable backups
*They spent tons of money on Gordon and Villaneuva this off-season but both are sixth men and aren't starters.
*They have no center
- They seem to have a good PG in Stuckey and decent PF's in Jerebko and Villanueva
So in the draft SG,SF, and C are all options, but Cousins and Johnson will be gone most likely.
So how is there future? Who do they draft?
I think they really need a center. Cousins would be ideal but that depends on the ping pong balls so i would say a more realistic option is aldrich.
for SF they drafted Austin Daye last draft, sure he is't anything right know but if he adds weight and gets better on D he could be a ok option at the 3. They also have dajuan summers from last draft, haven't seen him play this season but in the summer league he was doing well, maybe a back up in years to come.
Unless they get a 2010 free agent i don't see them in the playoffs next year either.
I think they draft Cole Aldrich... I dont know who else they dont need another SF/PF combo guy
Only hope is
if they steal an efficient player from another franchise that has given up on them
of course anybody in the draft could turn into a star...
Greg Monroe 1st round Georgetown
Daniel Orton 2nd round Kentucky (can develop on the bench)
Unless they land a top three pick, they will probably try to draft a center...
None would push them into them playoffs next season, IMO.
in that exact order available
hopefully they win john wall then trade stuckey along with rip somewhere for an expiring or a big.... then go for a big in the second round..
Pistons are 5th worst team,I think it will be difficult for them to get a pick worse than 6th
so if they got first:Wall,2nd either Turner or a big man(they have 2 SGs already),any worse pick I think they will take the best available big man and will pass on guys like Wesley Johnson,Henry, etc
so I think it will be between Cousins,Favors,Monroe and possibly Whiteside,Motiejunas,Aldrich
Stuckey isn't a true point guard, but if they don't win the lottery there is no real point in addressing that need. Hamilton and Prince will probably be dealt over the summer. Everyone knows they need big men. Aldrich would give them a much needed defensive presence. Cousins would be the center with the most upside, but he isn't going to be a big minute contributor early on. Even if they take him, they'll have to get another center to partner with him. Jerebko is just another rotation guy, and they already have a bunch of those. I really think Derrick Caracter would be a great fit if he falls into the second round. He may very well be second best low post scorer in the draft behind Cousins (if Monroe returns to school) and if he shows himself to have matured in the pre-draft interviews would be a phenomenal value in the second round for Detroit.
Has any team fallen from grace like the Pistons?? They suck now, but they were a good team like 2 years ago! I'm going to the game tonight against the Hawks too
