Hassan Whiteside=JaVale McGee meets Derrick Coleman?

Similarities between him and McGee:

Super athletic
Good jump shot
Great shotblocker
Extremely raw
Absolutely horrible man defense
Very poor intelligence

And he's similar to Derrick Coleman in that he has a horrible motor and work ethic. Decent comparison?

I actually think he has good

I actually think he has good man defense, I think the only reason he seems bad is because he is skinny, but if he gains weight I see him being great defense.

His work ethic is good from what I've heard, his motor on the other hand is not.

im a season ticket holder at

im a season ticket holder at marshall and as far as his work ethic all his coaches and teammates have said that he was very committed to being the best he could be and that he busted his tail every time he laced his shoes up. from all the scouts ive read they all like his defense and his raw ability on defense and that at times its iffy because he of his slender frame but i believe that will be one of the first things the team that takes a chance on him will make sure he's aware of it and work with him on it.

Derrick Colman

I can't see it, you don't go from almost unknown to lotto in one year and not have worked hard.
I can see he is raw yes but he actual has more offensive game than McGee right now IMO he can knock down the 10 to 15 foot shot something I haven;t seen from McGee.
He does need to add a lot of weight.

Try to find some game

Try to find some game footage of Coleman in college or his first couple years in the NBA, he was very powerful and had a good motor, it wasn't til his later years when he became a fat jump shooting pf was his motor bad

I think the Javale McGee

I think the Javale McGee comparison is perfect, but I stopped using it because McGee hasn't played enough to know how good he can be. The Derrick Coleman I remember was overweight (I'm young so I don't remember his early days), so that automatically makes me not relate to that comparison.

I think he's at best a Marcus Camby type, and at worst I think he's very similar to Sammie D (Samuel Dalembert).

first of all derrick coleman didnt have a horrible motor. he didnt always go hard but it was far from horrible. are you goingby wwatching derrick coleman back when he was in the nba or guessing ?..has to be guessing because although coleman didnt completely live up to expectations his motor was far from horrible

How can you have a bad motor

How can you have a bad motor and average 5blks a game. He may not be perfect, needs to refine his overall skills, but if I were a GM I wouldn't hesitate to draft him right behind Cousins/Favors. He has a lot of upside and his stats prove he's consistent and willing to improve.

if im a gm i would hesitate

if im a gm i would hesitate in drafting him that high. i watched him and he looked pretty good but i take in account what conference he did it against and the fact that hes old for a freshman. i might pass on him in the lotto depending on who else is on the board at the time. if im a good team that has a roster where i can be patient with him and my starters are set for the next few years then id think about drafting him

^Exactly my strategy if I

^Exactly my strategy if I were a GM. He doesn't need to go to a team that's talent-devoid at the PF or C spot, because he'd be baptized with fire. I think he'd be a bust if made play too early.
