Is MJ really the greatest Basketball player of all time?
i think he is for a coupel of reasons.
if there was another guy just as good as jordan he ended up getting passed because of the pro trainers jordan got to work with year in and year out. if you have 2 guys of the same ability and the same work ethic but one guy has tim grover and a nba oganization helping him while the other guy has boo boo from down the street working with him year in and year out plus he has to go to work to support his self( leagal or illegal) then he wont reach the same heights as jordan.. that same guy might get the best of jordan in one game maybe ( and thats a street game not a full nba game) but if they played in a nba game or season then you will see a real big drop off
I have always thought that Jordan was a tad bit overrated....I may never be able to go home to the Chicago area again if my friends read this but I think Magic could possibly be better and I think undoubtedly Lebron WILL be barring injury.....as in the HOF thread, I think too much of this is based on titles.....He is for sure top 3 but I think all this about people thinking you're crazy for thinking someone might compare in any way to the great Michael Jordan is kind of lame.....
wow a tad overrated?..the guy won 6 rings( would have been more) while dominateing offensively and defensively( cant say the same about magic or bird) with less talent then magic. i really cant see where even he could be a tad overrated. has there ever been a guy on a team every year since the first title that you said.. "well we know the bulls will win but who will they play inthe finals" every year? a guy whos bad game consists of 25points 3reb 3 ast. a guy who can get mvp and defensive player of the year plus finals mvp and allstar mvp in the same year while teams beat him up and not as soft calls liek in todays game ( where certain fouls are flagrants that were just regular fouls back then)
He has all the numbers and as Jay-Z said men lie, women lie, numbers dont..................but i have a top 10 all time
1.Michael Jordan
2.Magic Johnson
3.Bill Russell
4.Larry Bird
5.Kareem Abdul-Jabaar
6.Oscar Robertson
7.Isiah Thomas
8.Hakeem Olajuwan
9.Shaquille O'Neal
10.Kobe Bryant
Honorable Mention
1.LeBron James
2.Scottie Pippen
3.Elgin Baylor
4.Jerry West
5.Kevin Garnett
6.Carmelo Anthony
7.Allen Iverson
isiah thomas over hakeem?
I didn't even say he wasn't the best....I said that the position that a person will go to basketball hell if they dare think someone is even close to better than him is stupid....that is a TAD overrated.....6 titles....and Magic has 5....I agree that Michael should have 8 but I'm just going off overall skill....If Magic hadn't been hittin all the hood rats raw, he might have a few more himself....
lol..i get what you are saying...i doubt magic would have been taken any titles from jordan..his run was over once the bulls beat them. from what ive heard magic was hitting more high class women then hood rats
delfam..unless you are old enough to have seen wilt during his prime then youre opinion about whos better doesnt hold any weight just like mine wouldnt since i wasnt alive then.. but if you were then you hold more weight then probably anyone on this site
delfam, how many championships did wilt win?
did I really lose 20 points for calling Jordan MAYBE the 2nd best player ever??? I know where one of his house is do you want to go blow him too????
Haha I doubt anyone on this site wants to blow MJ. You learn through experience brotha, if you are a point-whore, it's probably a bad idea to say anything that could possibly be perceived as a condescending statements towards Michael Jeffrey Jordan (the greatest ball player of all-time).
I'm not a point whore but god damn.....
wondering because you made a point to say devin harris was overrated in college for not being able tolead a less talented team past the sweet 16. .@.TONYDABOSS77
I remember reading something not too long ago...it was a top 10 list of the greatest NBA players to never win a championship. Karl Malone, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley were in the top 5 (with elgin baylor as well) and Dominique Wilkins was at #7 or #8 as well.
Then I realized that most of those guys played at the same time and just had the misfortune of playing in an era where the GOAT dominated. When Jordan was in his prime there was no team in the league that could touch him. He single handedly took over games in a way which no one had done previously and no one has done since.
His greatest legacy is the fact that he denied so many great players a championship because he was so outstanding in his own right.
Hell if he didn't take a couple years off I think Hakeem and Clyde Drexler would probably also be on that list of the ten greatest NBA players to never win a championship.
Young Jordan was, skillwise, the greatest drive finisher in the history of the game. Older Jordan added a consistent jumper, integrated himself into the triangle offense and won 6 NBA titles. In addition he actually defended as well as scored (which isn't something you can say for all great offensive players.)
It wasn't a joke it was just something to hear others opinions. I think MJ is the best ever, but I think there may have been a person on this planet who could have been better given the same opportunities. Theres been a lot of people that have lived on Earth.
There have been some players that could do some things equal to or some even better than Jordan, but when you talk about his complete package/skill set, killer instinct and competitiveness... I don't think there's anybody better. He's the greatest I've ever seen.
Lol delfam Wilt is NOT better than Jordan. He's not better than Russell, Olajuwon, or Shaq either. He played in a time when the typical Center was about 6' 8", 6' 9". You know how many shots he took when he scored 100? 62 (Somewhere around there) and 30 somethin free throws. And he was 3 or 4 inches taller than everyone he played against. He's not the best.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar was the greatest basketball player of all time.
Could some guy, somewhere, under different circumstances have been better than Jordan? Quite possibly. There's this guy Chris Langan who's worked blue collar jobs most of his life who supposedly has a higher IQ than Einstein did. Could he have been the greatest physicist/mathematician/philosopher in history had he been born into different surroundings? Anything's possible. There's an element of luck involved with any success story.
Exactly Eris that is what I am trying to get at. I ain't trying to be this guy committing sacrilege by proclaiming that MJ might not be the greatest ever. I think he is the best ever who has been granted the opportunity he has, but I think maybe someone out there could have been better given the same training and opportunities.

Oh that's what you mean...well in that case off course. But like many people have already pointed out you can say that about anything.
If I were going to pick a couple of hypothetical possibilites Earl the Goat Manigault, Connie Hawkins and Len Bias come to mind...
you can make an argument for Kareem too...
Bryant > Jordan
and I mean John, not Kobe
oh Len Bias is a great call.....when I think back at what they could have been with Bias Michael may have never saw his first 3 finals.....

Think about all the people who have lived on this planet. Do you think MJ is really the best basketball player of all-time? They don't have to play in the league. Like is there some guy in Nicaragua or something that is a damn beast?
