Is Derrick Caracter Slow?!????
He's declaring for the draft, and signing with an agent, since he cannot just test the waters because he's done so before. Why not return for his Senior year? Here's the link:
probably because he transfered and already lost a year
his coach left, and he is fresh in everyones mind with a good season and utep making he tournament. he would have had to of had a sigbificantly better season next year to raise his stock. i think this isnt a terrible idea as utep wont be as good next year and with no real talent to challenge him in c usa.
^UTEP returns EVERYBODY from this season. They can be an Elite 8 team potentially next season. There is a bunch of talent on that team.
Watch he gets picked in round 2. Someone late will see the talent.
im not sure if he should come back or stay. he is clearly talented and has nba talent. hes not the fastest pf out there but there are other nba big men who are just as slow..i see second round with a chance to go first round with good workouts against other big men in the draft which isnt out of the relm of possibility
I seriously doubt Caracter sniffs the 1st round. He's got alot of baggage. And he's not the kind of athlete to rise up boards through the combine. He's going to need a strong workout to be a 2nd rounder from what it seems.
i dont think he will either but it wouldnt suprise me because of his talent
whats the word on moultrie? is he going to come out? i didnt realize they were returning everyone but they did lose their coach and i dont know how much that hurts.
losing youre coach can hurt on many levels
one- he has his own style that he wants to add. most if not all new coachs dont want to use the same coaching scheme that the old coach used because they want to have the credit when there system works. they dont wanna hear " yeah he did well because he uses the old coach's system)
two- most coachs like to bring in there own recruits and they may wanna change the current players role
three- some players are hard to deal with and the old coach knows how to deal with them or knows how to push them and what buttons not to push if they want to get the best out of that player
That is why UTEP better hire their assistant coach instead of Floyd or Gillispie.
How do you know he carries baggage unless you know or been around him personally??
from what ive read and heard he has turned his life around and close to getting his degree...he seems focused, I dont think it would be a bad idea if he came out this years. He's a pretty polished big man how much better can he get with another year of college, I do think he need to shed some pounds to improve his stamina and speed. Depending on his workouts i think he'll go late 1st round - early second.
Caracter will probably end up being one of the best post scorers in this draft. The only problem with declaring this year is that he has played four months of basketball in two years. As good as he was, he still looked a bit heavy. If he loses another 10-15 lbs. before the draft as a showing of his commitment to the game, I don't think there is a realistic draft spot where I say that is too high. He is not a bad athlete even at the heavier weight, and there are a number of teams who should probably take a long look at him (even in the first round). The only knock on him is his time at Louisville, but that is what the interviews and background checks are for. In both his and Jordan Crawford, those are going to go a long way. It is probably why I can't say that he would go as high as Chicago or Oklahoma City both of which would be very good fits. Memphis has those three picks, and might want the kick the tires to see if he could be the heir apparent to Randolph. Then there are the second and third time through with Washington, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Miami. Those seem more likely.
well his baggage comes from his stint out at UL. that baggage is pretty well known without knowing him personally
and most coaches take there assitant coachs with them and you hire a tubby because recruits know him. they dont know jim smith the assistant. and jim is gonna want to establish his own nitch so hes gonna change somethings as well
Yea I think Billy Gillespie would be a nice fit for them. He coached in the Texas area before and was successful. I can't understand why he's leaving though. He could definitely stand to return for his Senior season though IMO, especially how good this team can potentially be.
He also coached UTEP and left them before, so I'm not sure the school would want to go that route again.
Wow I never knew that. Maybe they should make Ernie Kent, the former coach at Oregon a candidate.
