Better Final Four Run (so far): Butler or George Mason
I say George Mason. They beat one of the best teams I've ever seen assembled in UConn. And they were an 11th seed. Butler has been ranked all year long, and they were a 5 seed.
Iggy, right now I think it is Mason, but what Butler does in the Final Four could change things up. Butler no matter how you look at it is a mid-major. That 2006 George Mason team was a ranked team at one point, and was an 11 seed as an at-large. If they won there conference they could have been a 7 or 8, and maybe still made that run. I don't think seeding is a huge deal because you have to play very good to great teams each round.
i think it was george mason and its not ven close. even though most didnt think butler could get there it wasnt as far fetched as mason making it there. they came almost out of no where. butler has been good for the past couple of years like a gonzaga
Definitely George Mason. They were an 11 seed and just came out of no where lol. A true Cinderella right there. Butler has been ranked in the top 25 all season... Top 10-15 at points and are a 5 seed in the tournament.
are you sure they were ranked at somepoint?..i dont think they were. and butler has been ranked every year for a coupleyears havnt they? so they are mid major by conference only but as a team they have been with the big boys just like gonzaga
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings/_/year/2006/week/16/... Mason was ranked 25th.
Yeah, I know, but they were still ranked at one point showing that they were not "unknown." I think Butler has to be in the National Championship game in order for this whole argument to have true meaning.
is such an outstanding story.....its one of those things where everything comes together.....and plus I'm from Indiana so I got that Hoosier love.....and this is HUGE for basketball in Indiana.....
unknown as in wasnt expected to get past the first round and maybe just ,maybe they get past the first round. butler was already considered a sweet 16 and in a couple polls a elite 8 team
No there were people that believed George Mason could compete as sweet 16, but nothing further from there. Mason did catch a break with there sweet 16 match up being against Witchita State which was a 10 seed, I believe.
Where are you from in Indiana? You're right... This is HUGE for us. We need this. A team representing us in the Final Four that's held here in our city? Boy... It doesn't get any bigger.
IF Butler wins the title, then of course that'll surpass what George Mason did. What Butler has done has been very impressive though. They've beaten both the #1 and #2 seeds. Had to beat a very athletic Utep team in the first round that everyone thought would wreak havoc in the tournament. IF Butler can beat a Kentucky or Duke in the Championship Game, then yea... They'll definitely surpass George Mason despite how special that tournament run was.
I'm from Hammond.....you????
I'm from Hammond.....you????
yeah those peopel were people from va/md...check out the percentages/chances of each team making it to the final four to really see which team was expected to get as far as they did
lol..did you hear what greg anthony just said and seth davis about butler and george mason " yeah its a suprise but its not like george mason and the run they had"
Yeah he said that right after Butler beat Kansas St. as well, all the guys at the booth picked K-State to win the game, and said it could be a blow out, they're eating crow and won't admit it. If Butler beats the winner of the Michigan St/Tennessee game then it surpasses what George Mason did.
yeah I tried to snake some media credentials but no such luck.....The Nappy City is gonna be a riot!!!!!!!!!!
Us Region Rats will be there in spirit....
I heard a lot of comitators pick Butler to make the final 4 at the beginning of the year.
They are a good team, they can beat Tenn or Mich State IMO. They got lucky and didn't have to face a team with big athletic bigs like UK. They can handle athletic teams but athletic teams with size and they lose. IF they win the whole thing then I will be shocked but to make it past Tenn or Mich State without Lucas not to shocking.
Michigan State w/o Lucas has proven they can win. Tom Izzo is such a good coach he is not going to use that as an excuse for losing a game. So don't bother making that as an excuse. Butler has the guard play to compete with anyone, it's the bigs where they will struggle, as you said.
George Mason all day teams thought gerge mason would be a easy win and did scout hard them people know who butler are and what they are capable of doing and they have an legit nba prospect in gordon hayward
Quincey I don't know what you mean by percentages, but on espn.com bracket challenge only 0.3% of people have Butler in there final four. I mean that's probably higher than George Mason, but still a surprise.
did get very lucky that Onuaku was out....I don't think they could have handled him....and I hope he gets drafted so I can see him shoot free throws again.....its fun in the way that watching a train wreck is fun.....
ok i found george masons...they had a 500-1 odds of winning the title when the tournament started. now tryna find butlers odds this year

40-1 to g.mason being +600-1 they played Florida, if Kansas was playing tomorrow and won it would be something like 400/500-1. I just don't believe the difference between the two runs is as vast as these "experts" make it out to be.
it was pretty muhc much more of a shocker that mason made it then butler. even without those numbers. not even taking into accout that mason was a 11 seed and only one other 11 seed ever made it that far
too this day peopel still have mason up there as one of the biggest shockers ever. butler getting there is a upset but nothing like a 11 seed getting there which is a major upset
Right now, I think Mason is one of the biggest shockers ever, I think the biggest shocker before everyone's time is Texas Western beating Kentucky in 1966. Though, if Butler goes to the National Championship game, and wins it then that surpasses Mason.
i would agree if kentucky or kansas was still in it but with the teams that are still in it i wouldnt call it a major shocker. the other seeds are not that far from butlers seed
October 14, 1910- John Wooden is born in
November 30, 1980- I was born in Hammond, IN
1951- Jimmy Chitwood leads Milan HS to a state title
March 30, 1987- Keith Smart hits championship winning shot against Syracuse
March 28, 2010- Butler advances to the Final Four in Indianapolis....
My uncle said white people thought it was a upset and black people thought they should have won by more. I think it was concidered a upset because alot of white people didn't think blacks could ball
Quincey, Knicks fans just told me that Sergio "The Deer" Rodriguez will be an all-star next year and that you're just hating because he's in the NBA and you're not.
On that comment, I would like to know what rtbt would say and he will probably tell you about the amount of education the white people had, and the black people had as well as graduation rates.
lol...how ami hating when everything i said about him has been true...back up pg..since when is speaking the truth hating...lol...those are the comments i expect when someone doesnt play as well as he thought for his team
i know. im still tryna figure out what i said that could be considered hating...the deer was a back up in portland then a back up in sac town and i said he would be a back up at best in ny.
Idk either, Knicks fan are just bitter for the past 10 years. It's tough, but I try to be optimistic, not optimistic where I think every new player is going to be the savior.

Another board I go on that is exclusively about CAA athletics (the CAA is the conference George Mason plays in just so you know) is debating the run George Mason had in 2006 vs. the run Butler has going on right now about which one is better. So I ask everyone on this board to say which one is better.
