Wesley Weatherspoon to return to Memphis, UM's Harris expected to test

"I'm coming back," Witherspoon said in a university news release. "Coach met with my family and me, and laid out all the pros and cons about staying and declaring for the draft. After we talked, I made the decision to return."

Michigan junior wing Manny Harris is expected to declare himself for the NBA draft, multiple people with knowledge of the decision told the Free Press today.

Harris, however, could remain at U-M if his draft prospects did not match his expectations.

NBAdraft.net projects him as a second-round pick in its 2011 mock draft — after his senior year.

Underclassmen have until the end of the day April 25 to declare for the draft. However, if they do not hire an agent they can withdraw until 5 p.m. June 14. The draft is June 24.

U-M spokesman Tom Wywrot said he knew that Harris had met with coach John Beilein but did not know the nature of their talks.

Harris, a former Mr. Basketball from Detroit Redford, told the Associated Press last week that he hadn’t made up his mind about the NBA, but apparently did in the days since.

Harris said after the game at Northwestern that he planned to return for his senior year, but Beilein later explained that was an emotional response after a game and they hadn’t discussed it.

Manny Harris is going to

Manny Harris is going to have a hard time his 1st 2 or 3 seasons. He's not a good shooter and he's turnover prone, and he's inefficient. On top of that, he played in a gimmicky defense. He's not that good a prospect to me.

Witherspoon is going to need to get a little more polish on offense. He's smart to return. He can be a Tayshaun Prince type player with more polish.

I agree. Manny Harris at

I agree. Manny Harris at best will be a scorer off the bench. He's missing something in his game.

Memphis is going to be wierd. They have Williams and Witherspoon coming back WITH 3 good guard recruits coming in....interesting.

Harris is a true back end

Harris is a true back end rotation player who's putting up numbers on a team with very limited truly good scoring options. He would be nailed to the bench on a good team, or even a team with solid depth on the wing. His numbers are pretty empty.
