Which is better for a program
With the NCAA and other tournaments out there which is a better result for a basketball team, and give me your reason why.
1. Losing in the Final Four Title game? In this you made it all the way to the final game in the hardest college tournament out there, but came up short to a very good team. You did better than every other collegiate team except one. lost your last game.
2. Winning the NIT. Good job at winning the tournament, beat everyone in your path and ended the season with a championship, but it was a lesser tournament and your team wasn't good enough to make it to the big one.
Which do you feel is a better outcome to the end of your college season?
The first one easily. I would much rather go to a Final Four and lose in the championship game then win the NIT.
Yeah man, it is not even close. Getting to the Final 4 is a great accomplishment. You always hear about how many Final 4 appearances coaches and teams have. I don't even know who won the NIT last year, or any year for that matter.
Going to the Final Four can help your program in so many ways its hard to imagine. It helps recruiting, fan base, and player moral just to name a couple. Returning players have been there and think the can go back. Your fans will now support you for at least a couple years hoping you get back. And, recruits get to see you against some of the biggest teams in the nation and, you can throw that at them.
"If you play here, have a great chance to go to the Final Four. We did it last year without you. Imagine what we can do with you.."
Winning the NIT is great but its like being the slimmest kid at fat camp. Your the best of the moderate.. Trust me, when WVU recruits kids, that is one of the last things that is brought up. Huggins tells kids that he can put you in the NBA, he can get you on national television, and take you to the NCAA tourney. If someone is talking to a 5star guy, and they say "You will win the NIT if you come here," they can kiss that kid good bye.
I see where ya coming from just expected some to look at it as winning your last game or loosing your last game. I can see winning the NIT would give you hope for the next year. Would it change your mind if it was your senior year?
No.. As a Senior, I want to at least play on the biggest stage. I dont want to make it to the last game of the "Pat on your back" tourney and win. Then, I get a pat on the back. If I am a senior, and I have no NBA career infront of me, I want to be able to tell my kids and grandkids that I played in the Final Four and almost won. I dont want to have to say that my senior year, my team wasnt even good enough to get into the tourney but we won the NIT. I bet they would pat me on the back.
"Winning the NIT is great but its like being the slimmest kid at fat camp."
LMAO...That was an amazing analogy
Final Four Title game hands down
not that my team would lose if we made it that far...
Congratulations! You beat a bunch of teams that either choked or were not good enough to hang with the big boys. You probably would have gotten bounced in the first round, but you got to save yourself some embarrassment and win a tournament that no one will ever remember you won and your coach probably won't let you put the trophy in the case unless you are really desperate for some hardware.
Speaking of that, shouldn't that have meant that Florida should have definitely been an NIT team?
^^ Yes. I have no idea why Florida is in over Miss. St or even Ole Miss...
WTF?? what a dumb question? obviously the final four and losing in the chip....... If u win the nit tht means u wernt good enough to make the REAL tournament
