Are There Any Evan Turner Doubters Out There?
It's interesting to me that I have heard doubters for every lottery prospect out there INCLUDING John Wall, but not one single negative article or post when it comes to Turner. I'm not talking about weaknesses (everyone has those) i'm talking about overall doubt as to whether a prospect will meet their hype/expectations. Any Turner doubters out there?
hes the real deal. gonna be a fantastic consolation prize for whoever gets the 2nd pick.
Turner returning from what for others might have been a season or career ending injury...And to still be able to play at a high level...brought him a ton of respect from just about everyone...I think he's going to be an all-star ..But not a trend setting superstar..I can remember back in the day, when Dennis Hopson another Buckeye was labeled a can't miss superstar...And like Turner, he to, begin his Buckeye career on a quiet note..Hopson was also a 1st team All-American his junior year..There were some foolish basketball scouts who said he was going to be the next Jordan... Hopson went number 3 in the draft like Jordan..Turner also is predicted to be a top 3 pick..Hopson didnt become the next Jordan..But he did win a ring, backing up Jordan on the Bulls 1st championship team in 1991...He played only 5 seasons in the league..Before finishing his career overseas..
I don't think there is anyone saying Wall won't be a long time NBA starting point guard. Those who doubt him are more or less doubting the hype that he is the best point prospect entering the league in a generation. That is a ridiculous claim that should be questioned. Nobody is claiming that Evan Turner is an anorexic LeBron James. If that was to happen, I'm sure there would be a movement to question the hype on him as well. The difference is the hype is as reasonable as it has been for a dominant college player in a long time. If you go back and see what people were saying about Griffin, Rubio, Beasley, Oden, Tyrus Thomas, Morrison, and Conley you would think they would all be saying Michael Who, Magic Who, Kobe Who.
I think Turner will be a very solid pro and I don't think he'll bust, but I always have at least a little doubt about players in the draft because you can never truly know who will and won't bust...
I love Turner's game and he's great to watch but I'm not sold on him being able to be the best player on a contender someday. I dont see him getting much better than he is now. I see a very good player but not a superstar.

People said the exact same thing about Brandon Roy in 2006. Took players with more "upside" above him and let him fall down to the sixth pick. A lot of people thought that Roy couldn't get any better considering he was a senior, etc. They said he wasn't as explosive as other wing players in the NBA.
Turner still has tons of room for improvement. He could get stronger, improve his three-point shooting, and his ability to catch and shoot. He really doesn't have a lot of weaknesses, so he'll just be improving things that he already does well. Just because players nowadays don't spend three years in college doesn't mean that when one does... He can't get any better.
I like Evan Turner's game alot. I think he is a cross between B-Roy and Rondo. I think if Turner starts off playing second fiddle to someone else he'll be able to develop into something special on his own... think Scottie Pippen. Pippen benefitted from being Jordan's sidekick... and when Jordan stepped down, Scottie stepped up. If Evan gets to go to a situation like that, then I think he will become a stud. Otherwise, I think he will still be a pretty good player in the league, maybe even a superstar. He's different than so many wings that have hit the league in recent years. He still has room for improvement, especially shooting, but his all around game, high IQ, and ability to make others better simply escapes most modern wings who rely on their athleticism and never learn how to play the game the right way. Shooting is the easiest thing to fix... you can't fix stupid. That's forever.
He'd fit in real nice with Granger here in Indiana. Turner wouldn't have to worry about carrying the scoring load because Granger can be a 25 point guy.
