Al-Farouq Aminu...Top 10 ?
Why is he rated so highly in the draft between the 5th and 8th pick, i have seen him more than 3 times this season and he has not really impressed me, yes he has good handles for a big man and he is alright on the boards, but thats about it, he cant shoot, cant really pass and he turns the ball over too many times, i beleive he is a first rounder but definately not a top 10, the other kid at Wake Forest Ishmael Smith is way better if he can get a jump shot....what do you guys think...
because hes a very very good player while being young. you might wanna watch him a lil more. the kid is a straight baller
actually just minutes before i thought about making this topic lol
but i want to say why he isn't in discussions? he is so big talent IMO good handles, very good first step, not just good but terrific rebounder, huge defensive potential, terrific combination of length and athletisicm..and he is as young or even younger than freshmen Wall, Cousins, Sidney, Lance..he has also improved his offensive skills and shooting but still he has so much to potential..and if we are talking about potential he played really better than Favors in the game couple weeks ago...what more you want from 19yrs old prospect???
i saw him a few times last season, but not so much this season. He seemed very raw on offense and seemed to get most his points by just being more atheltic and quicker then the competition in college. But not sure how that translates to the perimiter in the nba. UNless he has gotten a lot better on his perimiter game this season and i have not noticed.
Ok so i see its all based on potential because i feel that guys like Greg Munroe, Patterson and Ed Davies have played much better than him but they are ranked lower than him..
I think Aminu is a solid pick up, a good role player in the nba or possible starter if injuries come about. I am thinking of a more athletic Jerenbenko but he can shoot so maybe along the lines of Julian wright. Ishmael smith however is a better prospect as a back up. He has great speed and can get the bucket at will the only problem is SO CAN TJ FORD....get my drift so I still draft Aminu maybe at his peak can become a Marvin williams type of player
yeah last year he seemed o take a back seat 2 2 other first rounders in teauge and johnson. this year he has stepped up to that leader role and has done a very good job at it.
He's almost like Jeff Green was at Georgetown ..Green showed an around game..But never became a player that took over games..But scouts knew what he was capable of during..Aminu is alot more talented then Green...He's NBA ready
thats a pretty good comparision..i wouldnt go as far as saying hes alot more talented though. green is/was a better shooter and handled the ball better so i cant see how aminu is alot more talented
I mean Green is a role player..Aminu has the skills to be an elite player..I heard 1 scout compare him to a young Bernand King..Thats a little off base..He doesn't score as much as King did.Nor has King's shooting touch...Carmelo plays more like King..My older brother who is 44 says Aminu plays like a guy name Truck Robinson
I never watched Bernard King before my time, but I do know that Bernard King was a prolific scorer. Can Aminu score at will anywhere near what King did?? I can't see Aminu being able to drop 30-40 on any given night there's only 3 players in the league like that Lebron, Durant, and Kobe. I would say Carmelo and Wade are borderline.
mmmmm i think he can be a second option just like green could be on a different team
I've seen games of Bernard King and back in the day all players really played the same:
Bernard King and Throwback players in General:
work the ball inside, mid range
quickness and skills in the post
high percentage shooters
Bernard King comparison Caron Butler
One thing I must say the 3 was not a big deal back then, and guys back then were more efficient shooters because they worked on there mid-range game a lot more.
i must have skipped over the bernard king part. neither butler nor aminu are like him. he was another of my favorite players growing up. he was a scorer to the max. alot like melo is now. no one could stop him. i remember going to a wiz vs bulls game and he gave the bulls and especially jordan fits. if anyone is close to him id say melo. the rest are just a poor mans bernard
Aminu has grown on me since last year alot. He seems like he can be a Josh Smith type player. He's got the potential to be an unbelievable defender, as he can literally cover any type of player with his athleticism and length. He's not a good enough shooter or ball-handler to create on the perimeter, but he can drive in straight lines and be a big time factor on the offensive glass and in transition. I'd definitely take a look at him in the top 10 of the draft, he's already dominate because of his athleticism. Just wait until his skills even come close to catching up with his physical skills. Could be scary.
Also, you don't think Al-Farouq Aminu would be a better prospect than Ish Smith if Smith got a jumper?? I'm a huge fan of Ish Smith, but I do think that he's never going to be more than a 3rd or at absolute best a 2nd string NBA PG. With Aminu we're talking about a guy that could be a 2nd or 3rd option down the line.
it seems like i read that scouting report somewhere... cant put a finger on it though
what scouting report?
iggy. definatly not the butler bernard king one..
What I typed wasn't on a scouting report...unless what I typed is considered a scouting report to you lol
im not saying it was just saying ive seen a scouting report just like that
I just hope he turns out to be more in the josh smith, thaddeus young type mold. As opposed to a julian wright type, who's game and vast potential has still yet to come to the forefront. And it probably never will, his jumper still looks awkward and his ball handling his almost non existent. As a combo forward, which Aminu projects as, he'll really need to be consistent with his moves in a one on one setting off the dribble. He's shown progression in this area, but the ball's just too loose when he puts it on the deck. And like perez22 mentioned earlier, a lot of his points in the paint just come from out athelete-ing people. Not that thats a bad thing, but just something to be aware of. Where I look at him as a really intriguing prospect is defensively. This guy has the potential to guard 4 positions at the next level. The 4 being the toughest position though since he'll be at a strength disadvantage, but with time he'll get stronger. This guy has long arms and has great lateral quickness and really gets into guys grill on defense. He could use another year in school, then again, these days, who can't use another year or two. But I don't think its out of the question he'll stay at Wake. When he came as a Freshman with that recruiting class with Ty Walker and Tony Woods, I remember reading something where they all agreed to be in it for the long haul there at Wake and build this program. I think that played a part in him staying this year. So we'll see what happens after the season, since in reality, he's still projected in the same range as last year, as a lottery pick. And I presume he's one of those guys, whenever he decides to come out, he'll always be a lottery pick in the minds of scouts.
