Marshall vs Utep
im finally gonna get to see this whiteside guy everyone likes to talk about. not gonna really care if he has a good or bad game im really just gonna see what type of skill set he has.
I will definitely be looking at this game as well. Lots of exciting prospects in this one. Also some NBA calibers big in Caracter and Moultrie.
ok i gotta be honest. this kid is a good rebounder and seems to be a pretty good defender. he's pretty raw on offense. he kinda reminds me of tyson chandler. i cant honestl say i would draft him top 5 though but i would take a chance on him later int he first round
FYI, channel um surfing um . net has the stream online
I like the Tyson Chandler comparison for Whiteside. It's better than the JaVale McGee one I use because we don't know how good McGee will be. He's not played well this half offensively, but he's blocked shots and rebounded well.
Marshall is defending and shooting just well enough to take a 7 point lead. UTEP is also falling alseep on D which has allowed open shots. Tisk tisk.
Culpepper has played well as usual. Nice shot and slashing ability. He's imprressive in passing lane D as well.
Julyan Stone is a usually steady 6'6'' PG which makes him interesting to me, but he's done a poor job on D and dictating pace in half-court offense. He's the main reason UTPE is down right now. He needs to step up.
Caracter was having a hard time scoring with Whiteside around, but he still pulls off some nice moves at times. Got into early foul trouble.
Moultrie has been poor this game, and he hasn't been that good this season period relative to expectations. Has been alright on the boards though.
Randy Culpepper can play in the NBA. He's Nate Robinson 2.0!
He's hot right now. Scored 10 points straight to open the 2nd half, including a 4-point play
That lead evaporated quickly. Culpepper just turned it on.
OOOOOKKKKKK! Who just saw where Randy Culpepper just took off from to land that dunk!?!
He's 5'11 or 6' booming like that?!
Culpepper has taken over this game
i figured the whiteside thing was somewhere in the middle. some say he should go top 3 and others said maybe second round. i like the kid. he has some nice potential like i said before..but that culpepper kid is no joke. i seen him play 3 other times and was impressed then as well. i always thought he was a sr. hes only a jr. could be a late first rounder next year if he shows he can be more of a pg because so far he's just proven he can score ala patty mills
Good job Marshall! They have taken the lead!
Those points haven't been impressive though. He had trouble finishing at the rim.
Now as I look, he's 7-18 from the floor.
Also, he's having trouble with Caracter in man-to-man post ups defensively.
Tyler Wilkerson is impressive. 20 points 16 rebounds. A future draft pick??
UTEP could be dangerous if they keep this team together for next year. Moultrie needs a little polishing in his game, Caracter needs to lose some more weight, Britten might want to lose a few pounds as well, but they are a solid squad. Caracter needs to learn to pick his spots when complaining to the refs. His third and fourth fouls probably would have gone his way in El Paso, but he isn't a freshman. He should know by now that road teams don't get calls.
It has been interesting that UTEP has gone right at Whiteside a lot with Caracter and Britten in the post, and their guards haven't been afraid to attack the rim. After the initial run of threes to start the second half, they have really been doing their damage in the paint.
Whiteside disappeared for about 9-10 minutes while Marshall goes on a drought, then they go to him consistently since then. It has been a mixed bag, but he has had a jumper, a nice post move as well as an and one drive.
It has been an good battle between Caracter and Whiteside. Early on, Caracter seemed to be rushing his moves to make sure he wouldn't get blocked and missed a few. Now, he seems more content to bang him, use shot fakes, and sneak underneath.
next year culpepper needs to show he can pass/run a team as a point guard instead of just a scoring guard. he can still make the leauge without showing that through camps but if he shows that i believe he can get drafted higher. some peopel dont realize the main reason nate got drafted was how well he played in camps as a pg. teams knew he coudl score but in the camps he showed he could also pas and get others involved
im not sure why some people said this kid witeside is so bad. hes pretty good. not great but easily a first rounder. id even go as faras take him in the lotto depending on what team i am. needs to get bigger or stronger though and im sure his offense will get better
I haven't watched him enough to say whether he's a prospect. He did alrigth this game, but he also played poor D. Make some silly fouls.
If a bad team wants to get better, he won't help anytime soon. It isn't a denial of potential, but a statement about how things work. I'll gladly laugh at statements comparing his potential to David Robinson, a poor man's Dwight Howard, or Marcus Camby, but that is not a denial of the existence of potential. If he goes to Indiana as this site projects, how does what you just saw of him at this point help them? Not only that, but that team would be taking him over Greg Monroe and Cole Aldrich. Please. All that move does them is assure the team of another high lottery pick, and start the clock on how long the vultures start circling on everyone in the organization. If one of the teams with multiple picks takes him, I think that changes things. If Minnesota comes away with Evan Turner at the top, it matters less if they give Whiteside the Thabeet treatment as a rookie. If Miami comes up big in free agency as well as grab an immediate contributor with their pick, they can probably stand to be patient. If I was with a team in any other situation, I would not want him. The Pistons need a center, not a center possibly four years in the future. They have a pick four years from now if they want a center then. The Jazz already have been investing years of coaching into Koufos and Fesenko. The Clippers already have DeAndre Jordan in the four year program. It isn't as if they want to cut their losses and start over with the same program with another project.
