Guard Allen Iverson will not return with the 76ers for the rest of the season. He has been out since Feb. 20th dealing with personal reasons (sick daughter). Is it time for A.I. to retire?
if he could just accept an "off the bench scorer" role i think he could at the least have 2 or 3 more years left in his career
He my least favorite player ever but I honestly wish him all the best
I haven't heard anything about it, but is his daughter being sick the reason he left Memphis also?
Yes. This isn't a complicated issue. His daughter is sick and the doctors can't figure out what is wrong with her. It has to be a scary thing for a parent to go through. I'm pretty sure the reason Jason Williams retired/sat out 2009 was because of a sick child. Derek Fisher had his period where he was in and out with the Jazz, and that whole thing where they voided his contract so he can play in a city where his daughter can get treatment. Tim Thomas has left the Mavs because his wife is ill. It isn't like these guys live in bubbles, and they have serious issues with their families as well.
I wish the best for these guys and their families. I am glad they are doing the right thing and that for the most part teams are doing the right thing by letting them go. The one thing I kept hearing about the 76ers is that they were going to force him to make a decision and were planning on cutting him if he didn't come back in a certain period of time. I'm not even sure why that is necessary. The guy has a legitimate reason to not be with the team. He probably thought that by coming to Philadelphia that it would be easier to accomplish that, but it hasn't happened that way. From all reports he's been a good teammate there and it's not like the 76ers need the roster spot. They are lottery bound, so I'm not sure what their deal is.
I wish the best for AI. I would hate to see his career end like this, I would love for him to accept a lesser role and be a part of a championship team, for all the heart he put out he does deserve it.
I always hate seeing guys that used to tear it up in their time end their careers like this.
