Syracuse # 1

Stand Up. Stand up....To the real SU fans and not those band wangon dudes who want to get on board now. Naw, I'm talking about real fans. The ones who said Wesley Johnson would be a lottery pick last summer. The ones who was talking about SU when we started the season UNRANKED. Now is OUR time. We haven't been number 1 since I came remember. And I got on board when Todd Burgan was shooting those left handed jump shots. Derrick Coleman. Holla at your boy. DeShaun Williams, Preston Shumpert, come back. Lawrence Moten. Jason Hart, Winfred Walton, Craig Forth. Yes, you heard me. Let's go. We here. It's out time. We can't be stopped. Cuseman, Flynn, even Auber. Cats who've always represented Syracuse when we had Tony Bland, Jason Cipolla, John Wallace, Eric Devendorf. Rise for the OCCASION......WE'RE ASCENDING TO NUMBER 1.

Dhamp2......Please don't jump on Syracuse's bangwagon. We've been here all season baby! Holla back.

And where's the bum Quinceyhodges who said we wouldn't be number 1. Nuff said.

As a UK fan, I really do not

As a UK fan, I really do not want to run into SU in the Big Dance. With our poor outside shooting, your 2-3 Zone will give us fits.

Sorry not to be a hater, but

Sorry not to be a hater, but if UK is off or playing a team with experience I can see them getting upset in the sweet 16. They're the most talented team in college basketball, but talent only takes a team so far when you play another team with talent and experience. Also, on a side note I hate John Calipari because of who he is he is good at producing NBA point guards though.

Dhamp2 your humor is great.

Dhamp2 your humor is great. I have many friends who are big Syracuse fans, and have been saying this to me as well, if it weren't for Andy Rautins they would not be where they are. Wes Johnson is great, but down the stretch Rautins has proved to be the MVP of the team. Depending on how the brackets play out I can really see a Syracuse-Kansas National Championship game, I don't see Kentucky making it because of lack of experience.

Im another non bandwagon fan. Ive liked them since Melo. I will admit i thought this was gonna be a good team Rautins was under appreciated, Johnson was gonna be a huge pickup, but not a great team. their to me even though i thought they would be good probably a top 15 team a big suprise.

I can see Kentucky getting beat by a well-disciplined Mid-major team like a Butler or New Mexico in the sweet 16. I don't see Kentucky losing to an average Major conference team in the 2nd round.

Cuse

Yes, i'm a kansas fan. yes, we sucked for 35 minutes saturday. yes, we play in the conference with the number 1 rpi ranking, and yes, we have the number one rpi ranking in the nation. two losses to two ncaa tourny teams, both on the road. Last time we were ranked this high and went to ok st, we lost. that season, we won the nat'l championship. This is all fun and good except for one thing...the buzzsaw known as Syracuse. No one on the roster outside of wesley johnson really stands out, but as proven on saturday, we can't defend the 3 that well (anderson..27 pts, over 50% from the floor). I dont think the 3 2 zone or the 2 3 zone or whatever the hell they play would give us trouble because were a pretty good outside shooting team, despite not shooting well on saturday. Defensively, i really dont know how we could defend wes johnson. Cuse has enough front court depth to give aldrich and the morris twins fits, and they have great guard play. Guard play wins games in the tournament folks, which is why Cuse fans should making reservation in indianapolis now. Kansas will be there too. Guard play is also the reason why you could see Kentucky cutting down the nets just as easily as you can see them being knocked out in the sweet 16 or elite 8.

All in all, look for a CU KU championship game. KU 76 CU 71

I agree I do see a Syracuse-Kansas National Championship game as well. I think Andy Rautins stands out for his intensity w/o him Syracuse would be a top 20 team with potential 1st round or 2nd round exit written all over them.

I too am a Kansas fan, and I truly think Tyshawn Taylor is the key to any late season tournament run for KU. IF Taylor can play up to his ability and cut down on his careless drives and turnovers Kansas is dangerous beyond "out talenting" its way to the Elite 8 of Final 4. When Taylor can play well enough to stay in the game, without Self getting frustrated with him and benching him, KU's guard play is un-matched with Collins, Taylor, Henry ( who is playing well as of late ) Morningstar providing perimeter defense, and Reed providing a 3 point spark off the bench without giving up defense. Marcus Morris is a steady contirbuter and Markeiff, Withey and Robinson are all 3 guys 6'9'' or up who KU can bring off the bench. Cole will have a good tournament, he is very experienced and already has 2 NCAA tournaments in which he played very well under his belt, and I wouldn't think he would play poorly in his 3rd. BUT, their chemsitry sometimes is a little out of whack and certain guys like Taylor often don't show up, It's gonna depend a lot on how KU performs in the Big 12 tournment for me to be sold as them advancing past the Final 4, but hopefully, for me atleast, they do.

Yea Rautins is the MVP of

Yea Rautins is the MVP of the team, even though Wes Johnson gets most of the pub. Rautins is an unbelievable passer, which I didn't realize he was until this year. His unique mix of shooting and passing skills is pretty nice.

Also, Scoop Jardine makes Syracuse alot better whenever he's on the floor. Like very noticeably better.

Rautins was not the passer

Rautins was not the passer he is now ever before this year. I think Flynn and Devendorf leaving the program has made him the player he is now and having to take a larger role on the team.

Cuse is in the House

I've been a Cuse fan since I can remember John Wallace and them rapping "Cuse is in the house" back in like 92 or something. Born and raise in the Cuse having orange run though my blood. I'll have to admit, as much as I am a Cuse fan, I was skeptical of the team this year. Wasn't sure who was going to step up since Flynn, Devendorf and Harris left. After the first few games, I knew they were a contender after seeing Wes. As the season went on I realize that Rautins is the key to this team. He is not the most talented but what he brings to the table is leadership. Their roatation is setup perfectly, thanks to Jimmy B. I like the idea of bring Joseph and Scoop off the bench because this makes it so much harder for teams to defend, making Cuse a better up tempo team with Joesph and Scoop coming in mixing the game up. When your first unit team can keep teams at bay, and your second unit is the better unit, this is what kills other teams. The other team's first unit gets worn out just in time for Joseph and Scoop to come in for the knock out.

What's sad is, "Everyone is saying Cuse doesn't have a standout guy", which makes it even harder for teams to get ready for. Yeah everyone knows who Wes Johnson is now, he'll get his double double, can't stop that from happening. Besides that who do the have? They have a "TEAM" game, who ever is open is going to knock down the shot. This is why Cuse is the most complete team. I love UK AND KU but I'm going with my Cuse. Will love to see another finals with CUSE and Kanasa just to see them dual it out again like in 2003.

i still say kansas and uk

i still say kansas and uk are the teams tobeat. both teams dont need one player to score alot in order to win just like the cuse. yeah wall gtes the fame but they can win when he doesnt play well.same with cousins and patterson. and collins and cole for ku. the difference is that when they need some one to step up for a big bucket they have options for go to guys. and if more then one guy gets in foul trouble or injured they have players who can replace there production. i think what give cuse the edge in a one game case isnt how good of a team they are but that zone. thats tought to prepare for in one day( in between tournament games)..the only weakness in that is a point guard that can get into the paint or making the open threes that you can get or a big man whos a good offensive rebounder because in a zone its alot harder to box out

Can't deny it

I can see Cuse losing in the tournament because the zone has it's weakness and it's March madness. Players seem to play above average come March. To break down the zone you need a good passing Big with players able to knock down the 3 ball. If a team can light it up from beyond the arch, they have a real high posibility of beating Cuse. Jimmy B like's his chances of having teams trying to shoot lights out then getting open because because he plays on high percentage shots.

If you watch the game on Saturday, Nova had a good run in the first half taking the lead with their 3's. The saying goes, live by the 3 die by 3. I think Kanasa will be a better match up for Cuse because they have better shooters in Henry and Morningstar. The only thing is, teams will not be perpare for how long the Cuse's back line of the Zone is, they really get out there just like how Warwick did in 2003. They have the lenght to contest all 3 point shots.

if theres a team that has

if theres a team that has any chance of beating them in the early rounds its Notre Dame. They have great shooter's in Hansbrough, and Abromaiti. Plus adding Harangody helps. Syracuse beat them earlier in the year but their my sleeper to beat them if they make the tournament.

Enough

"You've been warned plenty of times Birdzilla. Keep using obscenities and I'll ban you." LOL... That was hilarious.

It's possible, but not likely that Notre Dame could beat Syracuse. Do you know for sure if Harangody will be back by then? I haven't heard anything about his return and I live in Indiana.

Best Talent

I believe KU and UK have the best talent but not team. The only college games I try to catch are; UK, KU, Cuse and OSU. UK and KU have the most talent on their team, making it a lot easier for them to win just on pure talent. They tend to play sloppy at times not knowing where they should be on the court. KU's players have even stated that they don't know what they are suppose to do at time. Their players have not figure out their roles on the team. UK by far, has the most talent on their team. Love watching Wall, Bledso, Cousins and Patterson play, also the bench play for Orton. The only problem with UK is, they don't have a true wing player because their either playings guards or bigs and no wing players.

For OSU, I just love watching Turner tear it up. I think he's going to be a star with his versitility of playing any position.

SU will kill Ketucky,

SU will kill Ketucky, lol....Has anyone notice that John Wall is the turnover king!!!! If things weren't bad enough, he turned the ball over on the last three possesions against Tenn. What do you think Rautins and company would do to him.

Dhamp2......the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.

I told you Wesley Johnson would be a lottery pick.
I told you Willie Warren wouldn't be picked in the lottery.
I'm telling you Kris Joseph is SU's go-to player and he will be a first-round draft pick.

Not sure about Joseph

I love this guy's ability to play but I don't think he's quite ready to go pro this year. I'll say it now and guarentee he'll be a lottery pick next year. I think he could use another year at SU to help them be rank #1 again and there go to player. I don't know what the guy on the site is saying about his handles but I think his strength is his ability to handle the ball. He'll put the ball on the floor and go work against defenders just like how he broke the Nova double team on Saturday. I think once Joseph works on his shot this summer, he's going to become one of ther better players in college basketball next year. He already has the ability to get to the rim at will, just needs a shot to setup the drive.

told a'll devendorf would be in the nba

Tonyl33, I already called

Tonyl33, I already called out the guy about Joseph's handles!!! He didn't know what he was talking about. He also said last week that Rick Jackson comes off the bench......He's started all but one game this season, so he lost a little credability.

Anyway Joseph won't come out this year. Maybe next year. Bobby Knight said if he stays all four years, he may be POY.

@Quincey hodges.....I've admit the Devendorf blunder. I never said Johnson would be POY, only a lottery pick. I did say Melo will lead the NBA in scoring, we'll see. I haven't said much about Paul Harris, expect that Lance Stephensen is the new Paul Harris.

Dhamp2......the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.

Dhamp

It feels good to be the number 1 team in the country, it feels pretay pretay pretay good(larry david), Dhamp we've been praising this team all year and now our ranking has proved us right. But on that note i realize it doesnt really mean much to be number 1 right now other then we have a target on our back for the rest of the year, but regaurdless of what happens the rest of the year i do believe we locked up our number 1 seed which does mean something. We may not have the most talent in the country, i think that honor goes to kentucky, but we are hands down the most balanced and the team chemistry is just incredible, we just play so well together thats its going to be very hard to beat us come tourney time, not to mention this is the best ive seen our D play in a very long time, and im not saying were unbeatable, im not sayin that at all, any team on any night can beat any team. But if this team plays the way they should in march and this is an unbiased opinion here remember(i just watch alot of college baskeball)there isnt a team in the country other then maybe kentucky(playing there best basketball of course) that can effectively break down our zone and have a chance to beat us.

Produces productive players

Syracuse produces productives players who can help and contribute. Yeah, I have to admit, besides Melo the only big name Cuse player out there before him was Coleman. Players in Syracuse learn how to play the game and they make average players above average by learning the game. Jason Hart is another cuse guy that is still bounching around the league as a role player. That's one name that no one mentions. But yeah, your right the only big names players Cuse has produce so far are, Melo, Coleman and hopefully Flynn and Green. I think it's because the recuirts come into Syracuse during the winter storm and get scared away.

Quincey

Id be pissed to if i was a maryland fan, i started a post maybe a month ago that i got ripped on saying gary williams wasnt a good coach, maybe i was wrong, because his resume is a very good one(1 NC, 2 final 4s, over 600 wins), but I looked at all the recruits for the past 10 years hes missed out on and the list is filled with college superstars(melo, durant, beasley greene, green etc).

On Gary Williams

He doesn't want one and done guys. He wants guys for 3-4 years, which to me is how a coach should recruit, and it hasn't hurt him I don't see many one and dones to win a national championship, besides Melo and Marvin Williams. Though, I like Gary Williams intensity a lot, and it does suck he has not brought in a recruit as Steve Francis, but he gets the job done, so that's all that matters, right? He has also sent a nice amount of players to the NBA such as Steve Francis, Juan Dixon, Steve Blake, Chris Wilcox, and others idk. Also, these guys have had anywhere from great to average careers, so I think when Vasquez comes to the NBA he will be able to do well right away.

knicks youre wrong on that.

knicks youre wrong on that. gary wants all the top talented guys. he recruited each one of those guys hard untill he knew they werent coming there. he is a very very very good recruiter though cuse.. just because he doesnt get the top guys doesnt mean hes not a great recruiter. a great recruiter can find a talent that no one else can see like a dixon baxter, vasque etc. everyone in the are knows why he hasnt been able to get the top ones and thats because of the bridges he has burned. another smaller reason is because of coach jt3 at georgetown. alot of black familys back hoem rather go with the black coach
