Jason Kidd - "Smartest Play Ever"?
I just saw this on Hoopsworld.com. It is a Pretty Smart Play.
ATLANTA -- Of all the plays that helped the Mavericks on Friday night, a run-in with Atlanta coach Mike Woodson may have been the biggest.
A literal run-in.
When Jason Kidd angled his direction ever so slightly with 1:37 to go in regulation, he rammed into Woodson. He basically stole one point because Woodson was on the court and the refs had no choice but to assess him a technical foul.
"Smartest basketball play I've ever seen in my career," Jason Terry said.
Dirk Nowitzki hit the free throw to draw the Mavericks within one point. When the game went into overtime, that extra point obviously was bigger than any other.
And when Kidd went to the bench at the timeout, he pointed to his right temple as he passed jeering fans and mouthed the word: "Smart."
Smart plays. Great plays. Huge, timely plays. Kidd made them all and the Mavericks needed every one of them to beat the Hawks and keep their winning streak alive at six.
It's the kind of play that will certainly get a second look by the NBA office. But it's hard to see any action coming against Kidd. All he did was use the rules to his advantage.
Hawks coach Mike Woodson balked at it. And he tried to confront Kidd after the play. But Kidd said what needed to be said afterward.
"Ask Joe Johnson or any of their players, if they had a chance to do the same thing, they would," he said. "If they thought of it."
That's a huge if.

I think calling him the smartest player ever is a bit of a stretch, but that was a great play.
No one called him the smartest player ever.....
And yeah, I thought it was hilarious, Mike Woodson looked like he wanted to fight Jason Kidd, haha
But that was really smart, coaches arent suppose to be on the court while the game is going on, and Kidd took advantage of that...wouldnt be surprised to see more players do it now, especially in clutch situations like that one
The expressions on Kidd's face and Woodson's eyebrowless face is priceless..hahahahaha..But Coaches are always on the floor during gametime action..There's a box they are suppose to stay in..But sometimes during intense moments some coaches wander out of it..But no one ever said or did anything about it..Some blogger on NBAFANHOUSE said the refs made the wrong call because both of Woodson's feet were behind the line..And Kidd pushed him..But the blogger must be blind..Becuz play had started ..And you can plainly see him directly on the court..Woodson might've remained on the floor if he hadn't seen Kidd coming..Thats when he tried to get out of the way....
The play was genius. Not sure how many guys would have thought of that during the heat of a game. Coaches have a box that they are suppose to stay in and a lot of them don't. About the only time they get in trouble for it is when they start arguing with a ref and start following them out on the floor. Kidd just made it a problem and made the refs more aware of it when he ran into him. I don't mind the forearm shiver though. Woodson can't be mad at anyone but himself. He probably cost his team the game on that one by not paying attention to everything that was going on around him.
i went crazy when i this game during the 4th quarter. J Kidd took over the game in the 4th with clutch rebounds, assists, steals, and 3 pointers. Running into Woodson though takes the cake. It was hands down the smartest play I have ever seen in an NBA game
haha that is amazing. I just wish it went over more smoothly. The Stoppage in game and near fight afterwards put a bit of a damper on the fact that it was brillian't. I would have never in a million years thought to do that. Huge risk, if it didn't work, he would look like an idiot. Balls of steel either way on Jason Kidd, thats wild.
too bad theyll never meet in the play offs it would be a good series cuz after that play it looked like they had hate for eachother which is wat these playoff seriously need
Like most of the analyst has said... JASON KIDD IS THE ONLY PLAYER THAT CAN CHANGE THE IMPACT ON THE COURT WITHOUT SCORING A POINT
