Mike Gansey

Does anyone think he could be called up by any NBA team in the next couple years?? He is in the DLeague right now and is playing some pretty good ball. He was on the Heat roster a few years ago but got cut because he got a staff infection and couldnt bounce back.

He is playing right now. In 20 minutes he has 17 points. He doesnt isolate anyone. He doesnt dunk on anyone. He plays off the ball, rebounds well, and plays pretty good defense. All of his shots, tonight, have been within the offense or on the break..

He is like 6'4 or 6'5, 190. He is averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2 assist in the DLeague..

What do you think of him as an NBA player and will he ever be one?

Personally, I could see him on a team that has a great scorer as a bench player and produce a few good scoring games.. When he got cut, Chris Quinn got to stay in his spot.. I promise he is better than Quinn but that isnt saying much..

I liked him in college with

I liked him in college with Pittsnogle on those overachieving WVU teams. I never thought of him as a pro though. He's a poor offensive player in the NBA, and he's not going to be a good defender either. I see him being put out there for 6 fouls, IF he makes a roster. He isn't a better NBA player than Chris Quinn, because Quinn provides defense and is a more than decent shooter in the NBA. Nothing about Gansey is at a true NBA level at all...

Gansey was an extremely good

Gansey was an extremely good rebounder for a guy his size, but I agree with Iggy, he needs to add a jumper to his game before he can be considered an everyday NBA player. Granted, I haven't seen him play since college, but if he plays the same game he did in college he plays more like a sg/sf and in the NBA its hard to be a sg/sf tweener if you are only 6'4''

Good call. I thought he had

Good call. I thought he had a pretty good jumper but maybe not.. I mean he was a pretty good jump shooter in college.. Also, I think he can defend better than Quinn. I'll give it to Quinn that he can flat stroke...

He had an alright jumper,

He had an alright jumper, but just not NBA 3 point range, his mid range game is pretty good and he was a pretty solid athelte from what I remember too, I liked him a lot in college, good call on bringing back the Mike Gansey talk, lol, but seriously, I'd like to see him make a team too, if he can get a 3 pointer I think he has a shot.

Im not saying this means

Im not saying this means anything but, for this game, he is 3-6 in his 20 minutes...the stats arent updating right now.. IDK why.. He is an okay athlete and personally, I think he brings alot more to the table than Quinn.. No disrespect to him or anything... Maybe Im a little bias but I like the guy..

If he wants to have a good pro basketball career...

He should go to europe. He certainly can be a good player in Europe. I don't think he has enough talent to make a nice living in the NBA.

He can probably make much more money playing in Europe.

From a financial stand point, I actually think most of the NBDL players should consider playing in Europe than to wait for their chances to be call-up. D-league salary is about what average person would make.

You can only play pro basketball for at most slightly more than 20 years. If you got a serious injury, it would be really difficult for the rest of your life. Going to Europe would at least give these guys enough money to live decently if they are good enough and know how to manage their money. Each year, only a few players would be called up and only maybe 1 or 2 NBDL super star can stick in the NBA. It's a more logical decision to go oversea.

Mike Gansey

Wow! I forgot all about him. When he was in the NCAA tournament @ WV he was a guy known for repeatedly making big shots in the last 2 minutes of the game. I'm somewhat baffled by someone in this thread who said he needs to develop a 3 point shot. Please, that is and was his forte as he shot over 40% from beyond the arc.

He was also very good at moving without the ball as he often scored running his man off a pick and cutting to the basket. And if memory serves me correct, Gansey was actually the leading rebounder at WV. His 6 ft 11 teammate Pittsnogle, only averaged about 2 rpg [LOL].

The8thDeadlySin is correct about his Miami experience. M. Gansey had a staff infection and couldn't play for almost a year after leaving WW and that essentially eliminated his NBA opportunity. I think Jay Bilas projected him as a late 1st round choice and was very vocal about it when Gansey wasn't selected.

Gansey's biggest problem is the lack of quickness on the defensive end. The big concerns were two, could he guard NBA shooting guards and could he create his own shot. I think the answer to both questions is probably no. Having said that, I still think he has the talent to be a role player in the NBA.

Bringing up an old topic

Bringing up an old topic here but:

Yesterday, Mike Gansey had an amazing DLeague game..

He played 48 minutes, the whole game, scored 30 points on 12-18 shooting with 6-7 from 3pt, had 11 rebounds, 5 assist and 0 turn overs...

Make sure you get this... 48 minutes, ZERO TURN OVERS... Also, he has a pretty good stroke from 3. It is said in this post that it is a weakness of his..

That is a crazy stat line no matter where you play.

Haha... He probably does.

Haha... He probably does. He was like 22 with 3 bald spots.. He was a good guy though.. He opted out of his starting spot like 5 games at the end of the year, as a senior, because he knew the team was better off without him in..

What do you think of their

What do you think of their chance in this year tournament? I like their defense, but i question their outside shooting. their a sweet sixteen team at least, and if their on i think they can make it pretty far but they need other guys besides Butler like Jones, and Ebanks to step up.

So you brought up something

So you brought up something that happened like 3 months ago?? Dang.. Talk about a guy that has to one up ya....

I think they can be an Elite 8 team or a Final Four.. Umm, I think the guys that they need to step up, because those 2 guys you mentioned are going to come to play, are Bryant and Deniz.. They could challenge but probably wont for a National Title.

I do think because of their

I do think because of their d they can play with anyone but i dont think they have the three point shooter, and clutch scoring to win it all.
