On John Wall

This was on my mind about him today. I read somewhere that his wingspan is 6'9", and I believe he is 6'4". If so I can really see this guy becoming not only a beast on offense, but a lock down defender on defense with that wing span, he may give up 2 inches on height to a shooting guard, but he can keep them in front of him with his wing span and speed. Does any share these same thoughts as me??

Yeah

He looks pretty committed to defense. If he continues to put on strength he could be a D-Wade type of defender.

I believe John Wall will get

I believe John Wall will get stronger that frame of his can add muscle w/o losing quickness or speed. I really see this guy being someone who should pride himself on defense, because he can become great at it.

He's been a great defender

He's been a great defender all this year. I think he can do everything Dwyane Wade has been doing in the NBA. Not only defense.

I know it is early to tell,

I know it is early to tell, but do you see John Wall as DPOY Award capable in the NBA??

wayyyyy to early for the

wayyyyy to early for the dpoy thing. gonna be hard considering howmany very very good offensive pg are out there. much easier for a center to get. thats a nice wing span. doesnt matter if he's 6'4 or 6'2 because the wingspan is much more important then height. d.rose is only 6'2 and a half and you see how good he is

Quincey I agree with you

Quincey I agree with you about the wingspan being more important than the height, but to have both is great. Yes, there are a lot of great to very good offensive pg's, but I think John Wall with that wing span can drive players like Westbrook, Rose, Evans, Rondo, etc with his wing span in your face defense.

Quincey

Quincey is right. Centers can be considered great defenders without having to be a good man-to-man defender. Point guards have to shut their man down, and get a lot of steals.

John Wall does have that kind of potential, though...

He certainly has the

He certainly has the potential too. I wouldn't be surprised if he did sooner rather than later.

honestly what does hight

honestly what does hight do?..if one guy is 6'9 with a 7'1 wing span and another guy is 6'7 with a 7'3 wing span how does height make a difference?..i bet most people never thought of this, you dont have to shoot over someones head you have to shoot over there arms/hands...you dont have to worry about there head blocking youre shots, you dont have toworry about there head reaching around you to steal the ball. i mean really theres no difference between 2 guys with the same wingspan if one is shorter then the other

Another factor I love about

Another factor I love about Wall is how clutch he is. He's come up huge for Kentucky regularly this season and not just on O. That stuff at the end of the game vs. (I forget who it was but stuffed him shooting a 3) was huge.

Quincey

You mean two guys with the same standing reach.

But, yeah. I understand what you meant. I have always wanted an explaination from scouts on why height is so important. Maybe for point guards because they can see over the defense better.

yeah thats what i

yeah thats what i ment..thanks.

a concerning thing that needs tobe adressed again. wall's turnovers. lately it hasnt just been his full court speed its been in the half court as well. not to nitpick but he has a problem bringing it down as well when he drives down the lane which is why he tends to get the ball slapped out of his hands. that also has to do with arm/hans strength. im sure who ever his trainer is this summer will work with him on that

Random Question: When was

Random Question: When was the last time DPOY went to a guard?

But absolutely, I agree 100% with what Iggy said, he can be similar to Dwyane Wade on defense, and much more.

Gary Payton

Payton was probably the last PG to win DPOY and that was 1996.

Only thing I see wrong with Wall, is the turnovers. That's something he will get better with over time.

I think right now I can see

I think right now I can see John Wall doing what Russell Westbrook is doing in his second year. You get the atheltic drives steals assist but a bunch of turnovers but some games not so much. John Wall can shoot better though.

Exactly. I hate it when

Exactly. I hate it when people dog on Wall, saying he commits too many turnovers for the NBA or he can't shoot well enough. But we've seen what he can do when he plays at his best, and all you have to do is bring it out of him and I agree, he can be very similar to Wade on defense and offense, with his long arms, quickness, blinding speed and the ability to leap out the roof
