Monroe over Patterson and Aldrich?

Does anyone else feel that Greg Monroe should be placed ahead of Cole Aldrich and Patrick Patterson? I like the latter two, but I think Monroe will be the better NBA player.

It depends on team need

It depends on team need between him and Aldrich, but I'd take him over Patterson every time. He'll be the better NBA player of the 3 though from what I've seen

Monroe

I'd take Monroe over Aldrich. If I'm a GM I may take Patterson over Monroe because of the numbers he has at his age. Monroe needs to develop his inside game more. He can shoot, rebound, and pass well but needs to use that big body of his more.

I'd take Monroe over

I'd take Monroe over Patterson any day. And I like Patterson alot, I think he's underrated big time and could be a 20 and 8 kind of player in the NBA. If David West can be a 20 ppg player, Patterson sure as heck can. Maybe not 20 ppg every season, but I really think he could be a consistent 16 to 20 ppg and 7 to 10 rpg player.

Monroe is so skilled though. He's just got such a nice skill set for a 6'11 20 year old kid. And its not like his post moves are horrible either. He's got solid moves inside. His passing abilitiy is arguably the best out of a post prospect in years. He's got a refined offensive game from the high post, and could be a very good pick and pop type player in the right system. The only thing Monroe really lacks I think is an assertiveness, which actually from watching G'Town lately is becoming a strength. He's been seen diving on the floor for balls, taking charges, sealing strong in the post, grabbing rebounds in traffic, things that he would not have done last year. I don't care if he's not a physically dominant speciman, I dont care if he's not going to be a guy who fills up the highlight reels with acrobatic swats and rim racking dunks. Those kind of plays dont win basketball games, they win bandwagon fans over, but not basketball games. I dont buy into the idea that he doesnt have great upside because he really does. He has great upside and I think is one of the more NBA ready big guys in the class. I think Monroe is going to be an 18 to 20 ppg and 8 to 10 rpg type of player in the NBA for a long time. He's that good.

i think patterson will be a

i think patterson will be a pretty good player although i dont think he can put up west numbers because west was a better player at the same stage in college but i do think he can be pretty good and put up haslem type numbers

I think Patterson can put up

I think Patterson can put up West type number but I like Monroe overall game and I am a lil bias because he is from New Orleans. But even before that I liked his skill and felt he needed to improve his athletecism and even though he may not have improve on that, I feel he will in his transition from college to NBA and right now he does not need it because for his size and skill level and basketball IQ he is solid and can only get better.

i think patterson is third

i think patterson is third and it is close between monroe and aldrich. Right now, i would go with monroe. But Aldrich is a safe pick that can help a lot of teams even if he never becomes anything special.

Monroe is the best PF in the

Monroe is the best PF in the class, the NBA is no longer all about big post up 4 men, Patterson while being a monster will not peak much higher than he is now, I agree with Biggy that he could be good, but Monroe is number1 in my mind of the hybrid 4 man he's the best passing big man the game has seen probably ever, and the assertiveness will come, I may hate Yao Ming but he started off as a pansy and then learned to be more aggressive, Monroe will undergo the same changes and he will be very good at the next level while he will probably not be a a superstar he will be damn good, he has the most complete all around game of any post player in the class he handles shoots, and I already mentioned his passing ability, he defends, rebounds and runs like a deer, guaranteed solid starter in his career. Aldrich on the other hand I feel I can guarantee to be a bust at 6'10 he has decent size, and while he is an excellent shot blocker, he will not be athletic enough to stop the big men ion the league, he is big in college so he can use go tos like his hookshot, but this will not do in the NBA because he does not have the sheer power to gain good position, at best he will be a 10 minute a game guy, but mostly likely he will get used to wearing warm-ups all game. I'm gonna get hate for this but the fact remains that Aldrich is probably the 4th NBA option on his team with Henry, Collins, and Morris, and Henry is the only one who has a real shot at being a good NBA talent

Yep

Monroe is a good passer but he isn't on the level of Chris Webber, Sabonis, Divac, and many others. Shaq, Hakeem and Malone all were great passers as well. Monroe is maybe the best big man passer in his draft class, but let's not get carried away.

Aldrich is not very athletic

Aldrich is not very athletic he won't be able to stop the Howards, Boshs, Bynums, Jeffersons, or in this draft class Cousins, at the next level, if u think he is an athletic big man, your credibility is in much more danger than mine, and I'm not an Aldrich hater I like him as a college player, but I can't see him as an NBA talent, there is no reason to personally attack a guy for his opinion or take my hard earned points this is not a forum to trash talk it is to express opinions and I did so. I love Shaq but he is not a great passer its pretty easy to kick to a shooter somewhere, but to make the passes that Monroe makes in traffic to cutters he is exceptional there are other great post passers but none with his timing or accuracy.

Hmmm

Fine, I'll give you an explaination.

You say Aldrich will bust, but most scouts are expecting him to be a defensive role-player. In the right system, his offensive game could florish. People are not expecting him to score 20 PPG at the next level, so I don't understand how he could bust unless he gets injured.

Cole Aldrich was measured at 6'11" with a 7'6" wingspan. That is outstanding size.

He is an above-average athlete for a big man -- very mobile and strong. He isn't extremely agile but he makes up for it with his timing defensively.

There are plenty of worse athletes in the NBA who can challege Bosh and Howard. There are also plenty of better athletes than Aldrich who can't guard those guys anyway. Jefferson, Bynum and Cousins are not great athletes. Bynum may be above-average but Cousins and Jefferson are vertically retarded.

~~~~
Monroe is not the greatest big man passer of all time. Period.
~~~~

But whatever, it isn't right to pick on people (no matter how WRONG they may be). So I'll give you some points and edit my other post. Now we can be friends.

butidonthavemoney you are

butidonthavemoney you are right he's not on those guys level but what college soph is? he has the potential to be on there level or better as a passer. as far as cole he's not very athletic but he does have pretty nice athletisim and bigsby who can stop the guys you named?. other nba centers cant stop those guys. cousins wont be able to stop those guys either. cole has nba talent and may not be a offensive beast but he can be just as efficiant as priz for portlnad on offense and defense

while cousins may not be

while cousins may not be quick or a high flyer he is an ox he will out muscle most everyone but Howard or Shaq, but Aldrich isn't even the best center in College basketball he won't do much at the next level, and all the above listed passing big men were not incredible as rookies they got better as they went along as a 20 year old he is not far behind and will become an incredible passer and will be a better passer than the above listed he is still a kid and will have time to mature, Aldrich is a decent athlete in college but he won't be anything at the next level compared to other players, Jefferson can simply drop a shoulder and get himself shots, its not just the athleticism he doesn't have the power to stop the stronger guys either at best he is a 6 points and 5 reb. guy and that is at absolute best.

1st

1st off...ButIdonthavemoney...You do realize your name is ButIdonthavemoney and you have a picture of a teddy bear right? And your ripping someones credibility? What on earth have you ever done to warrent "credibility"
I had to get that off my chest.

2nd point...Again with ButIdonthavemoney...You named off a handful of big men that were good players how many years ago? Arvydas Sabonis, Divac, Webber? Cmon man, lets get with the modern program please.

While Bigby22 may have gotten a bit carried away with the best passer the game has ever seen, I think somehting can be said for his very good passing ability which is a very underrated skill for a post. He is definitly the best passing big man in the draft and could easily develop into an elite passing post in the NBA given the right system.

I think it depends greatly on where Aldrich gets drafted to determine weather or not he will be a bust. If he gets picked in the top 10, hes a bust in my book. Maybe even the lottery. I just dont see Aldrich as anything more than 6 to 8 ppg and the same amount of rebounds. In my book, thats a bust from a top 10 pick. Teams drafting the top 10 are drafting there because they need impact players, not guys who score 8 points and grab 7 rebounds. And to say he will be a defensive player...thats proposterous. He wont be able to defend many big men. Its true that not many players can guard Bosh, Howard, Duncan etc, but the good ones dont need constant double teams and dont let them go crazy.

Next...Great statistician work there ButIdonthavemoney...Aldrich is in fact "listed" at 6'11...that one inch makes up for all the deficiancies. He doesnt get any lift on his shots...even his jump hook I could see getting blocked alot in the NBA.

People...stop and look at what you are saying before you say it please. Alot of people say Joel Pryzabilla when they think comparisons to Cole Aldrich (which is ironic considering they are both from Minnesota and both Whi...Tall). Joel Pryzabilla is a career 4 points and 6 rebounds effort guy. I dont know but if I'm drafting in the top 10, I definitly want more than that. I'm not saying Vanilla Gorilla is a bad player, nor will Cole Aldrich be, because there is a place on every team for what Pryz and what Aldrich will bring to a team, but in terms of draft value, Top 10 is way high.

for me Cole is not Brook or

for me Cole is not Brook or Kaman..and Patt he is good player but this season he is definitely just 3rd option so he may have hard time in the NBA to be one of better players..

Monroe is my choice there!..even almost 16/10/2 looks pretty good for a guy who is really not even near to his ceiling(no matter he is sophmore he is just 19 not 20 like someone mentioned) and with those just under 4apg he looks big time talent..man if you can get almost 4assists per game in college level then who really could be 5-6apg player in the NBA after 5-7 years i think he will be the best playmaking big since KG and Webber 5-10years ago.

as far as cousins out

as far as cousins out powering everyone but shaq and howard in the nba...thats false.. dont get out muscling college guys confused with over powering nba grown men. he wont over power kendrick perkins, bynum,bogut,oden,priz,haywood, etc. lets not get carried away now. there are plaent uf very strong big men int he nba. center and pf. besides, cousins is good because of his very very good foot work. he uses that alot more then just over powering guys. and there are plenty of centers who arent very athletic. you dont need to be to play center and you dont need to over power someone to play it either you just need to have good footwork and hands on offense and good instincts on defense while knowing how to box out. cole can obviously do all that which is why he's projected to go lotto
