I want to see

A 1st round pick that is known for his defense, a guard/forward. I know this may sound ridiculous and I may get blasted for this, but I want to see a guy around 6'6"-6'8" who can defend the 1 to 4 well and prides themselves in it. I want to just see a change of pace. Are there any guys like that out there right now in the college game or have the potential to??

Jarvis Vernado is more of a

Jarvis Vernado is more of a guy who can defend 2-4, but is a a defensive prospect, he is more of a post defender though at 6'9''. He may sneak into the late first round depending on team needs, but is probably a 2nd rounder. I believe Devin Ebanks could eventually develop into that kind of player. In the Villanova/WV game he guarded Scottie Reynolds at times, and did a pretty good job when he was on a much quicker player, but his length and defensive abilities allowed him to keep up with a much smaller guard. I don't think Ebanks is considered as high of a prospect as he was earlier this year, but I still believe he is a first rounder if he comes out this year or next.

Ebanks

I don't think Ebanks is as highly considered because he isn't producing on the offensive side of the ball as well as he did late last season. Personally, I want to see a guy who comes in and says my goal is to make the NBA's all defensive team, I want to be guarding Lebron and Kobe in the last seconds of the game, etc. I want to see someone with that type of swagger, but on the defensive end.

Yeah, I would like to see

Yeah, I would like to see that too. Most of the "defensive prospects" are post players anymore with raw offensive abilities. A lot of the lock down perimeter defenders don't possess NBA level athleticism or offensive abilities. Marcus Dove of Oklahoma State was one guy I thought would make the NBA. He was about 6'7 1/2' very athletic and a terriffic athlete, but he didn't have good range or handles, I thought his defense alone would get him there and it still may, but he is in the D-League right now averaging about 8 points 6 rebounds and a steal and a block in about 29 minutes. I would love to see him get called up as he continues to refine his game in the D-League.

mno reason you should get

mno reason you should get blasted for wanting that... it probably will never happen because most teams draft high first round for a player that is gonna score. that seems to be first and formost unless the guy is a great rebounder and big. i mean would you draft bruce bowen or d,jones that high in the draft if youre team isnt that good. yea defense is good and helps wins titles but great offense beats great defense anyday. a team that would consider drafting a guy like that would probably already be stacked in which case they probably would be drafting at the end of the first round. defense takes alot out of you so most college guys probably work harder on offense because they know thats what will get them drafted in the first round. unless youre 7ft and can block alot of shots and rebound

Yeah, to be a first rounder

Yeah, to be a first rounder it would take a guy like Battier, who was just a good all around player. A guy who could score and play defense, but just chose to be a defender at a NBA level. I think Brandon Rush, who also has range and a good mid range game, could eventually develop into a lockdown NBA defender and he was chosen 13th. I still remember when he was in college he did as good of a job as anyone in (trying) to stop Kevin Durant and he wanted the challenge of guarding Durant. For a shooting guard he has had 5 blocks a couple times this season and although he is still adjusting to the game he could too be a good defender.

Good Post

the reason you dont see more versatile defenders like that is because they are so bad on offense.
If you are putting an offensive liability out there They will eventually get burned on defense and have to sit with foul trouble.

tall players usually get double teamed on offense but they usually have bad passing ability, dribbling ability etc

Basically what I'm saying is if they cant take advantage on offense it will eventually equal out

i actually agree with you on

i actually agree with you on that okee.. alot of times a player is so good on defense in college because they arent that gifted on offense..a player like balby comes to mind.. they have to do what bruce bowen did. start to concentrate on a aspect of the game and become real good at it in order to stay on ther floor. thats actually what i had to do early in my hs career

Lebron James
Andre Iguodala

Andrei Kirilenko (a few years ago I havent him play this year)

I only put guys that can help run the offense a little bit

I forgot Josh Smith he is

I forgot Josh Smith he is pretty good on switch outs

Aminu- Josh Smith
Stanley Robinson-a 6'8 Travis Outlaw
Damion James-Thaddeus Young

I dont know about lock down defenders but Larry Brown always said that when your building a team from scratch you should acquire the guys who can defend multiple positions without giving up too much on offense or IQ

I like those guys to be good defenders

one guy whos a very good

one guy whos a very good defensive player but will probably do undrafted is Kris Kramer. Offensively hes non existent but in my opinion hes the best and most versatile defensive player in the country.

Trevor Booker I think will be a very good defender if he gets a little bit quicker.

that player is extremely rare
