STOP OVERRATING ED DAVIS
He is a nice complementary piece on a team that is playing awful. I could have sworn people said he would be the big dog for unc this year. Chris Bosh is definitely not a good comparison. If he stays another year i think he will still go top ten but i honestly dont see his game improving much even then.
If he adds muscle he could be a 15 and 8 guy in the nba. He has good footwork and plays good D just a bit weak.
Nobody is saying he's franchise player..But he's going to have a nice nba career..I think he really needs to get stronger
AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE HE IS A TOP 15 PICK
FAVORS IS T A TOP 10 PICK
AND WHITESIDE AND COUSINS ARE TOP 5 PICKS
i dont see much of a difference between him and favors to be honest. i can see favors puttin gup the same numbers as a soph as ed is . neither has great offense but davis is more advanced because of the extra year of college basketbal. davis is more athletic and more aggressive and a higher motor. davis doesnt have alot of post moves but makes up for it in college because hes long and active. i think he could be a pretty good nba player. not a star or allstar though in my opinion just like favors
Both are long, athletic, and high energy. But, both do not have much muscle, not much game, and can't create for themselves. So, yes Ed Davis is overrated. He should not be in the top 10.
youre looking at overrated a lil differently. just because a player is top 10 doesnt mean they are overrated. you have to factor in youre choices. if youre top 5 picks are . luke walton, bruce bowen, mike conley, mike miller, and ty lawson then you have to pick one. doesnt make the guy overrated just says that there arent a bunch of great picks. and people keep saying top ten liek top ten picks are game changers. in reality top 10 picks become just good nba players which is what he can be. im not sure but on average im thinking one top 5 pick becomes a guy you build youre team around
I understand that but i wasnt talking about just where he will be selected i also meant the overrating of his overall game
yeah hes overrrated compared to some people outrageous comparisions but i dont think any nba scouts have overrated him. i havent heard nor read about him becoming a game changer so i cant really say hes overrated to the people who really matter. just to some overzealous fans and websites
Yeah, some people see a guy who is 6'10'' with a big wingspan and can jump and really get the hype machine going. It's funny even after the 10-12 years or so I've been following the draft, I don't really get too excited about players like Ed Davis because a lot of guys with his athletic credentials if not better I've seen be complete busts, yet the hype machine keeps going. I still see the potential, but I know now it takes a lot of hard work on the individuals part to make himself into an NBA player and when I see that effort and some more definate results is when I get excited. Blake Griffin from freshman to sophomore is a perfect example, but Ed Davis, yeah, he could be a 16 and 8 guy like someone eluded to earlier, but he still has a lot of holes in his game and could easily be the next Brandon Wright.
Joe Wolf1, that was a very interesting post. I remember when Brandon Wright opted for the draft. Because of his long, lean body and the athleticism he demonstrated at NC, I thought he was a "can't miss" prospect. I still don't understand why he never made it, but I'm sure you're right about the work ethic.
Exactly JoeWolf. I think Ed Davis is eerily similar to another UNC player: Brandan Wright. Take that comparison how you want.
Wow you guys are severely underrating Brandan Wright.
He just hasn't had a fair chance to show his skills yet. I'll go ahead & tell you he is going to be a very solid pro.
His PER has always been well above the league average. Look at his stats in the limited minutes he played last season...they are good.
Just unfortunate he got hurt before the season started. Plus his coach is crazy. I expect him to bounce back.
Maybe so, I personally dont think so, but I've seen it over and over again, Marcus Haislip, Julian Wright, Jerome Moisio, Eddie Griffin, Jared Jeffries, Stromile Swift, Keon Clark, you can make a case as to why any of these raw lanky athletic forwards with a super high ceiling didn't make it, but of any position that drafts on athleticism and hopes for development its big men and I just don't get too pumped unless a player has shown significant growth to his game. Davis this year has just put up better numbers in the same categories because he plays more minutes and hasn't developed much more. I'm not counting the guy out, Im just saying because of that he's late lottery to 16.
GatorHeels wrote, "his coach is crazy". I agree 100% with that statement.
I hope Brandon Wright does eventually succeed, but I thought he would be a star from day one.
I never was high on Wright. He didn't have a single true skill in his arsenal. He was an athletic freak who could run fast and had long arms. Therefore he was deemed to have "high upside." He wasn't skilled at all, and that's what it takes to be a great basketball player. He was a product of the GM's going "upside" crazy in the 2004-2006 drafts.
lol, you gotta take it back further than 04' the Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry draft, the only team that got it right in the first 4 picks was when Memphis took Gasol.
man joe wolf bringing up jerome moiso. I've watched the bruins for 15 years and i thought moiso was the second best prospect i had ever seen behind only baron davis. Crazy how much skill that guy had.
Moiso actually had a few good seasons in toronto and new orleans. I do think Bradin Wright is hurt but playing with the Warriors though but I was not that high on him because i dont think he is even 6'9" and thought he was too small a power forward and too unskilled to be a 3 but hopefully he bounces back because he has put up decent numbers in limited minutes. Keon Clark was not really bad. He just quit basketball early. Eddie Griffin was talented but he had some mental issues. Marcus Haislip actually got some attention this year and I think he landed with the spurs but I never thought he would be great but I did think he would be better. Ed Davis should a least be solid if nothing else and who knows. He is a big that in the right system could really show his skills or develop something so that he can improve a lot more. Top 10 is not out of his range. This draft is not that top heavy but it is deep to me if certain people do come out.
man can wright play a good couple seasons before ya'll start dogging him?..he was actually projected to start this year before he got injuried
