It has been a while since I have last been on, so hello to all. I am a huge knicksfan, see username, so I am going to try making this not bias. Last night when I was at the Lakers-Knicks game David Lee played like an absolute man among boys on the offense end of the court. He was mismatched on the defensive end having to play Bynum who just backed him in, but overall had a great game. The Knicks MUST keep David Lee. I think he is proving this month that he is worth 10mil/year over 5 years. He has proven everyone wrong about how he has no jump shot (from 15-18 feet money in the bank), he's only good bc of the system he is in (well that may be true, but idk many guys at his height and size who can dribble with both hands and have the quickness of a guard). While Lee is not a #1 option in the long run he is a great #2 or #3 option. If I am any big free agent that does not play the PF position coming to NY is a great deal because Lee opens up a lot of opportunities for other players.
Ready to hear everyone's thoughts.
i think Lee for 5years/50 is a very fair deal on both sides but he wanted 12million a year. walsh probably isnt going to go over 10million a year for him and with a lot of teams having cap space next year he could definitely be playing somewhere else next year with a bigger paycheck
yeah thats the problem. he wants more then what they are willing to spend. i think you could see a even better lee if he got to play the pf next to a average to good center. and he might just get that chance if he leaves
that jumper was looking good, if he didn't have to guard bynum he would have been fine on defence. I think he will be highly sought after this off season. If a team can get a lebron/wade and David Lee they are instantly be in the playoffs and, depending on the team be, contender to win it all.
The Nets for example.
Also add in a very high draft pick and that team is very hard to beat.
i dont think the net would try to go after lee since they have yi. hes not as good as lee but hes young, talented and producing very nicely. paying lee that 12mill would make much sense for them
I think Lee is worth $12mil/yr. Really what is the negative of paying him that much??? I think the knicks have to get ride of either Jeffries or Curry or both to give Lee that extra 2mil/year as well as signing either a Dwyane Wade or LeBron James, though if Joe Johnson and D'antoni are in good terms I think he is a good fit for the knicks. The Knicks need a PG badly. Duhon is a good back-up, but not a starter at all.
if they give him 12 million then they can only sign lebron. would make a nice starting 5 but that bench would be god awful. where would they get there pg from if they have no money?..no draft pick. and im pretty sure they would love to gte rid of curry as much as you do. i think they have a hance to get rid of jeffries but its a pretty small chance since everyone wants to have money for this summer more then next summer
If Lee keeps getting better probably someone will give him 12 mill, the Blazers must really feel stupid for giving him their offer in the offseason.
Can always buy a draft pick, they might have to swallow a team's bad contract to land a PG.
The bench will be Jordan Hill, Tony Douglas some 2nd round pick its not much but D'antoni doesn't seem to play a lot of guys anyway.
Jordan Hill is showing that by next year he will be a stud, douglas can easily be 2nd or 3rd scoring option of the bench by next year as well. This team might be deeper than people thought. Those two are going to be a big part of the rotation next year
he usually plays about 8. that bench would be much but when i mention that im talking about with lebron. lebron has said he wants to win a title and wit the players they will have if they keep lee they wont have a team that can really compete. might not even have enough to buy a draft pick
Say the Knicks sign Lee to a 5 year $60 million deal, and they get Lebron. The starting lineup would look like this TBD-Gallo(he is an oversized SG)-LeBron-Jeffries-Lee. If Lebron is a knick then Wilson Chandler definitely gets traded, teams will want him. Knicks will get a veteran PG for Chandler. I see Jeffries staying because D'antoni likes him. Hill and Douglas will see more action in Year 2. I also see the possibility of Al Harrington taking the MLE for the Knicks becuase he does like NYK and he has earned a lot of money in his career already where now it is about championships. So the Knicks starting 5 will now look like this:
PG: A veteran in exchange for Chandler
SG: Danilo Gallinari
SF: Lebron James
PF: Jared Jeffries
C: David Lee
Bench: Al Harrington, Jordan Hill, Toney Douglas, Johnathan Bender
Just a thought. They do have 2 2nd rounders which if they can work it out trade both for a late first, or move up in the 2nd round. It is hard to say because half the season is left before anything can be said.
realistically?..no players earn alot in there career doesnt mean anything in the nba. lebron has earned enouh for a lifetime , you think hes still not gonna ask for max money?..harrington likes ny but hes not gonna turn down alot more money and or a chance to win a title just because he likes ny. we put out there finacial situation and they cant afford to keep lee, harrington and get lebron. a couple of people did the numbers a couple of post ago and its just not possible. now a vet in exchange for chandler could work but how good would the vet be considering chandler is still under the rookie scale contract?..what ever vet you get probably wont be as good as duhon since chandlers contract is so low. dino at sg?..no he can shoot like one but he would get lit up trying to check them. although you could let him check sf and lebron check sg.i doubt they get lee for 5 year 60 only because other teams will offer more and thats not much more then the 12mill a year he asked for last year and hes playing better while leading his team to a better record this year. the fact that hes playing so well is a double edge sword. you want him to pay well because it helps ya'll win but the better he plays the higher his price tag will go up and there will be a team willing to pay it
knicks should trade harrington for veteran pg,and trie to keep chandler i think that he is younger and should be better option but any way if they cant get rid of fatboy(curry) it will be very complicated summer
sounds like a good idea for the long term. short term they wanna make the playoffs so they will prob try to keep harrington plus his expiring contract is good for the summer. if they trade for a good pg who has more then one year then there summer options will drop. the knicks are in a catch 22 right now
